  1. See you guys next week when I move out of state. Enjoy the season everyone!
  2. According to Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are "closing in a 4-year extension for close to $70 million with beckett. announcement should come early next week". Not to count any chickens before they hatch, but it sounds like Beckett is very likely to get extended to a team friendly contract.
  3. I think we're in a better position with a question mark being our 5th best reliever out of the pen than our neighbors to the south are, with a question mark being one of their set up guys. And Chamberlain isn't the same pitcher he was in 2007 either. Ever since his shoulder injury in 2008, his velocity has been 3-4 mph slower, even as a reliever. http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=2692&position=P&pitch=FA
  4. Lester has looked really impressive lately. Hopefully he can avoid getting off to the slow start that he did last year with 5.40 ERA in April and a 5.86 ERA in May. He received 5 out of his 8 losing decisions in those months and then went on to have a 2.35 ERA over the next 4+ months. I think he's fully capable of pitching 200+ innings with an ERA under 3, even in Fenway Park.
  5. Our bullpen will be fine. Papelbon, Bard, Okajima, Ramirez and Delcarmen make up one of the best cores of a bullpen in baseball. I expect Delcarmen to have a nice bounce back season if he's healthy. He was hurt last year but before that he had a 2.05 ERA, 1.02 WHIP in 2007, a 3.27 ERA, 1.12 WHIP in 2008. Arguing over who has the better long man and mop up guy in March is kind of pointless. Both the Red Sox and the Yankees used 20+ different relievers over the course of last year. Half the time the first guy out of the pen is going to be someone called up from the minors.
  6. I see it as a positive that the Red Sox no longer have to sit and wait for their 3 or 4 hitters to get the 3-run home run. I'd rather have a lineup of 6 20+ home run hitters than a lineup of two 40 home run hitters that we live and die by. I think we should get much more consistent offensive production over the course of the year. And while I think Jason Bay did a great job for us over the year and a half that he was here, in the months when he was hitting .230 and .192 with no power, we were struggling to win games. I don't mean to make this a discussion about defense, but at least when Cameron is struggling at the plate, which I'm sure he will next year at times, he can make great plays in the outfield. When Bay was struggling at the plate, he was also hurting the team in the field at the same time.
  7. Josh Reddick was a triple shy of the cycle against the Rays. He's only 23 and he still has some developing to do, but boy has he looked good this spring.
