  1. Love it, and the optout/cheap option allows us to pursue someone like Gonzalez in the future if he becomes available
  2. This last page has been all sorts of awesome
  3. Have you met Suns yet?
  4. Speed is measured when the ball comes out of the hand, doesn't matter if the mound is 60 ft or 60 miles away. Now reaction time on the other hand would be a viable measurement
  5. There is no way anyone in a softball league throws 103. Otherwise He'd be in the majors
  6. People come to watch a winning product. Obviously "charm" was not enough to fill the stands in the 80's and 90's
  7. I don't think this is necessarily true. Teams will be much more reluctant to part with key major league contributors (IE Buchholz, Ellsbury, Bard) mid-season
  8. They're both similar in terms of offensive output: Ellsbury: 08: 16.2 VORP 09: 41.4 Span: 08: 20.5 VORP 09: 37.5 Not to mention Span spent almost all of 08' as a corner OF along with half of 09' which gives his value a bit of a hit
  9. Besides every aspect...
  10. Please don't tell me you buy into that theory
  11. Because he was coming off two consecutive good years? He had a 3.56 and a 4.22 ERA in the two prior seasons in his age 25 and age 26 seasons. Hindsight is really 20/20 right Perez is only 27, when it rains it pours with him but when he's on, he's a damn good pitcher
  12. In a market where Chone Figgins (a significantly better player all-around) gets 9mil, how can Beltre (coming off a sub .700 OPS season) get anymore than 5-7mil? What teams would pay more than that for Beltre? In a league where plus defense is only really highly valued by a few GM I just don't see a well below-average corner infielder getting more than what I suggested above.
  13. How can you assume Cameron was plan B? Maybe the Red Sox looked at his declining defense and decided he wasn't the right fit for the next 4/5 years. Cameron is only a two year commitment and by that time Reddick/Kalish/Westmoreland may be ready to go. Do you really think a front office planted a story for a reporter as a way of pumping up Kotchman's popularity? Did you also consider that perhaps this is a slow offseason and writers need something to write about? If you want to dispute the stuff said in the article I'm all ears, but fact is that he's an excellent defensive 1B who's shown good offensive ability in his limited major league time.
  14. Not completely. Point was that Theo hasn't budged on a Buchholz deal yet and given his run to end the season it seems completely improbable.
  15. Key difference being that after the deadline was when Buchholz had his run of dominance
  16. I really see Buchholz as a major holdup here. I think he's probably on the same level as Lester in terms of willingness to trade (ie he is not going anywhere). For every big name that has come up in the last three years, Buchholz has been the obvious target for any team and Theo has never budged. Definitely don't see him budging after the dominance Clay had to end last season when he really started putting it all together. At the same time, while Kelly and Westmoreland are both top 25 prospects in baseball, the fact that neither has passed A+ will probably limit their abilities to be a centerpiece for Gonzalez at this point. I could really see both players value skyrocketing with success in the upper levels this season, so perhaps a mid-season trade is more realistic.
  17. I'm going to have to agree with Jacksonianmarch, I'm almost certain Hoyer has never explicitly stated who he wants for Gonzalez. I don't think you'll find any GM who would say that. Also that link is extremely vague and is basically your standard NESN interview.
