  1. Bad to worst and its even close to being over. For all of you people who want to see Bowden, you are seeing right now.
  2. What such a Dupe thread?? This is thread saying that Wagner has been claimed, the other is a dicussion about Wagner. Big difference.
  3. Another bloodbath from the Yankees. Sigh
  4. Bowden being booed off the field. Well what can I say he deserves it.
  5. You guys ever hear of Futureheisman?
  6. BOSTON -- In their ongoing quest to add impactful players for the heart of the pennant race, the Red Sox have reportedly placed a waiver claim on Mets left-hander Billy Wagner, a six-time All-Star closer who had Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery on Sept. 10, 2008. According to Foxsports.com, which cited two Major League sources in confirming the transaction, the Mets have until 1 p.m. ET on Tuesday to work out a trade with the Red Sox. If they choose not to do so, they could simply allow Wagner to be claimed by the Red Sox without seeking compensation. The third option for the Mets would be to pull Wagner back off waivers, meaning they would lose the right to trade him for the remainder of the season. Wagner does have a no-trade clause, though he indicated before Friday's Mets-Phillies game that he'd welcome the opportunity to finish the season with a contender. "I think that's what every player wants to do, is play on a contender and have a shot to go to the World Series," said Wagner. "Like we all know, I'm not getting any younger and the window's starting to shut. You want to have that chance, and take it if you get it." Wagner made his first appearance since surgery on Thursday night, throwing a scoreless inning and getting clocked as high as 96 mph on the radar gun at Citi Field. The lefty, as of Friday afternoon, said he hadn't been informed about a claim by the Red Sox or any other team. "I think yesterday kind of helped the situation, but I haven't heard anything. I'm still just excited about yesterday," said Wagner. Has he allowed himself to think about switching uniforms? "I can't," said Wagner. "I've got so much ahead of me right now, I can't think about going somewhere else. Yesterday was a big step, but I've got a lot to work on, a lot to do to get better and help myself." The Red Sox already have an All-Star closer in Jonathan Papelbon, so Wagner would be used as a power lefty setup man. By taking on Wagner, the Red Sox would be making a significant financial investment. The veteran is owed roughly $2.7 million for the remainder of 2009, and has an $8 million option for 2010 that includes a $1 million buyout. The 38-year-old Wagner has pitched for the Astros, Phillies and Mets in his career, posting a 2.40 ERA, saving 385 games and notching 1,068 strikeouts over 819 innings. Opponents have hit .189 against him over his career. The addition of Wagner would give the Sox yet another weapon in a loaded bullpen that already has the likes of Hideki Okajima, Ramon Ramirez, Daniel Bard, Manny Delcarmen and Takashi Saito working in front of Papelbon http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090821&content_id=6536512&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  7. What a stupid play there down by 5 runs.
  8. They need to get Brad Penny out of this rotation. This is a diaster.
  9. Why not? What is the risk? If he doesn't work out then you just put in mop up situations but if he does you have a really good power lefty who can be dominate. There is really no downside to this if it happens and could work out in a big way.
  10. According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Red Sox have recalled RHP Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket. Bowden had a cup of coffee earlier in the year when he pitched two perfect innings of relief against the Yankees. He's been starting the entire year in Pawtucket since and has seen his stock dip over the last couple months. He'll be available out of the bullpen. The corresponding move is not yet known, but Jason Varitek could be headed to the disabled list. Quote: Red Sox optioned CF Brian Anderson to Triple-A Pawtucket. Anderson goes to make room for Rocco Baldelli. Anderson had one hit in six at-bats for the BoSox. He'll be back in September as outfield insurance. Quote: Red Sox activated OF Rocco Baldelli from the 15-day disabled list. Baldelli never really had to go on the disabled list, but the Sox were banged up and needed someone they could rely on to play consecutive days. Baldelli will resume his role playing against left-handers. J.D. Drew's two home runs off a lefty Thursday night might put a wrinkle in Rocco's playing time. Should be interesting to see what the final move is for Bowden getting called up. I guess it's possible that Varitek goes to the DL, but I don't see why they go with one catcher. Bowden coming up could just be a few days until Wakefield returns.
  11. The Sox also have a rough timetable in place for Daisuke Matsuzaka. He will throw another side session Friday, and Monday will throw two or three innings in a Gulf Coast League game. On Aug. 29, he is schedule to throw about 50 pitches in a start for Double A Portland. On Sept. 3, the plan calls for him to throw roughly 65 pitches at Triple A Pawtucket. Following that schedule, Sept. 8 could be the first day Matsuzaka for the Red Sox, although they could wait until Sept. 9 because they are off the next day, thereby giving the bullpen a break after Matsuzaka's first start back. Boston Globe That's good the team has laid out a tentative schedule for how Dice-K is gonna come along with his rehab...hopefully everything goes as planned, and we can get some good contributions from him when he gets back on the Sox. __________________
  12. 5-4 Twins top of the 6th!!!
  13. 4-1 Rangers bottom of the 5th.
  14. nice outing by Buchholz tonight.
  15. Paul Byrd is set to take the mound for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday. The start will help determine whether or not Byrd is ready to help the big league club. "It's one of those things where I'm pretty close, so the hitters will let me know tonight," Byrd said. The 38-year-old had a 4.78 ERA and 1.39 WHIP in eight starts for the Red Sox last season. Source: Rotoworld.com Well, it'll be interesting to see how he does. He could very easily take Tazawa's spot until one of Wakefield or Matsuzaka is ready (could be 2-3 starts away). I'd love to see him do well and come up the Show and help us out, but I just don't know how realistic that is.
  16. Buchholz I think is begginning too get it. He reminds such much of Lester his first couple seasons. Had poor control and got himself into way too much trouble. He is still doing that at time but at a lesser rate.
  17. I was in the shower, how did the Sox get those last two runs.
  18. Jerry Remy to return to the booth friday.
  19. There take some really good swings off of him.
