  1. This move caught me by surprise. I stated within the past two days that while Crawford is one of my favorite players, no way the Sox would pay 8/180-200 (reportedly the likely asking price) for him. And they didn't! But I'm still surprised that they went 7/140. Wow. That's 7/300 for just two players. In any case, I'm very pleased that Crawford is now a Red Sox. I've watched almost all of his games against the Sox over his career. That's about 120 games. I'd say that he did at least one thing in each game that changed the game. So I'm glad the Sox will not have to play against him anymore! And I'm even more glad that he won't be in pinstripes or playing for other playoff contenders. Did the Sox over pay for Crawford. No. Not in my opinion. His value is determined by more so by the market than his actual talent. Is he worth $20+ mil./year? No. Not in my opinion. But then I believe most professional athletes are obscenely over paid. Whatever. One thing that concerns me is salary flexibility for 2012 and beyond as the Sox will have about $120+ mil. committed to only nine players. Something to consider going forward. Just after the 2009 season ended, I had a marathon Skype session with Dipre. We were discussing what players that we'd like to see the Sox acquire through the 2011 deadline. Dipre told me everything about his choice, Adrian Gonzalez. Great contact skills, patience, inside-out swing with opposite field power. Great glove and arm. He made a compelling argument. I don't really follow the NL closely so this was all news to me. My choice was Carl Crawford. I've always loved the guy for his sheer athleticism. He impacts the game in a different way from a slugger. But he is an impact player. Near the end of the conversation Dipre asked "Imagine if the Sox got both?" Hahahahahahaha!!!! An unlikely scenario. But now it's happened. Just wow!
  2. Celts are now up 51-50 after having a 19 point lead.
  3. Good. If it happens. Get him out of the AL East and keep him away from the Yankees. He's one of my favorite players and I'd love to see him playing for the Sox, but not at the asking price/number of years.
  4. He's what, 36? If his ankle is healed and he can continue to hit, I'd have no problem paying the Borris asking price of 2/20.
  5. Why not just re-sign Darnell McDonald? He's not the big bat everyone would like, but he plays hard, and is versatile.
  6. Excellent post! I was about to copy/past this myself.
  7. Why do say that?
  8. Hey Doctor Jacko, what can you tell us about his shoulder and surgery?
  9. I agree. The only problem is his posterior ribs.
  10. With Werth off the market, I'm thinking that Kallish is the Sox starting left fielder. There is no way the Sox will sign (my guy) Crawford for 8 years. I'm OK with it, though.
  11. It's good to have him back in any case. Right?
  12. f***ing excellent post Derek.
  13. Welcome to talksox. What is you native language? Portuguese?
  14. Welcome to talksox!!! Make an intro thread.
  15. Welcome back! Some of us have missed you! Excellent post.
  16. LOL! This is SO true!!!! There are, by my estimation 2-6 thousand seat that remain empty on many nights. You can't see most of them from watching on TV! Maybe they were "sold". But to whom ? A re-seller?
  17. Yes. I meant to say the new ownership and I was too hurried to try to make a search for details on Manny's deal.
  18. I'm just trying to catch up with this thread. I was gone for about 45 minutes becuase I had an encounter with my Ex-wife (the evil one)! My previous post now seems redundant. But I agree with you.
  19. I said that early yesterday morning in response to BSN's plea for someone to celibate with. At that point, reports were that AdGone had flown to Boston. So, while a good sign, nothing of substance had happened. You'll notice that I was not jumping for joy during the past 32 or so hours. I 've seen to many things go wrong (not just sports/baseball) to get too excited just because the media says something is about to happen. Until it happens, I just take it all in. While I'm very disappointed, I have to believe the ball is still in play here. At the very least, what ORS says makes a lot of sense. And we don't know where the sticking point was and how far apart they are at this point. And why is everyone so quick to condemn Theo for what has happened? Again, we have no direct knowledge off the negotiations. And as far as I know, Theo is charged with "shopping for the groceries", not writing the big checks. If the Sox are being "cheap" here, it's likely not his fault. That goes on the Owners. About two months ago I posted that I didn't think AdGone would be coming to the Sox. This, after reading an article regarding conversations that Hoyer had had with AdGon's rep. The article said that Adgon wanted a "Tex" deal (8/180). Well, the Sox have never signed a player for 8 years. It's not how they roll (historically). Which leads me to one question, If the Sox were aware of this, why go this far and not make it happen? I hope there is no ambiguity in this post.
