  1. Honestly I could be satisfied with second in the division. That would be a leap forward from 2014. Beyond that is bonus time. I could live with that, too.
  2. I freely admit to feeling somewhat entitled as a Sox fan. It comes from many years of just hoping that the Sox would be good. And then seeing them be so for so long. I expect the Sox to put a competitive and mostly winning team on the field each year. I do not expect that the Sox will be in the hunt for a WS title each year.
  3. I'm with you on this Ted. It was a huge shame to see what happened after he was so lights out. I hope that he can make it back but doubt it very much.
  4. If so then it would be one very well kept secret and possibly a very good strategy. I'm not in love with Scherzer for some reason and I certainly do not like what top pitching has come to cost. However, if the Sox grab him I will be happy that the FO has gone out and gotten a top guy.
  5. Good post. I have pointed this out before, people are just saying Shields is something less than a good #1 because of his recent lack of success in the playoffs. Any attentive Sox fan should suspect otherwise having seen him pitch for the Rays over the years. I'd take him on this team any day. Age be damned.
  6. Welcome to the Rouge State Kimmi!!!!!!!1!!1
  7. I hope Lavarnway catches on ( no pun intended ) because he seems to be a nice kid and he has a good brain. Plus he was developed by Boston. I would think that someone would want to take a look at his bat. The kid has functional power. I have always assumed that Lavarnway must really love baseball because he is Ivy League educated and must have plenty of good employment options.
  8. Wow. That is a significant problem for a board.
  9. People seem to only recall the recent events for some reason. Yup. Shields crapped all over himself in the 2014. I remember watching him pitch very well in the AL East for several years. Whatever.
  10. Is it possible that the Sox acquire a top of the rotation ( note I did not say "ace" or "#1" ) starter that is not currently on the radar? A trade that we are not discussing? I'm not sure I buy Cafardo's idea. The Sox management may see the current rotation as viable for the goals that they have set for the 2015 team. Like getting back to respectability. At this point I still suspect that the Sox are not all in for 2015. Who knows?
  11. Maybe it's the 10 degree temperature outside but boy does it feel like winter! I'm wondering when pitchers and catchers report to Ft. Myers. I think it about February 10-11 but am not sure. Maybe I should Google it? Eh. It can't arrive soon enough for me.
  12. And the Boston papers let him have it at most turns. They loved that this guy Grady was a hick and a dummy. They used to play on it. The guy was actually dumb, I concede.
  13. Not really impressed by it. The Cards really don't want to spend that kind of money. At least when I think about the past 8-10 years. I really doubt that they will cough up their top prospects, either. Screw the pussy Cards, anyway. Their fans are pukes. Aside from the one on our board, that is.
  14. Except when a nice guy and very good pitcher like Bill Lee has his career ended because of it. Then it's not so funny at all.
  15. The Fox announcers deriding Pedro for throwing Zim to the ground is awful. Yes, it is unpleasant to see an old geezer be manhandled like that. But under the circumstances, it was probably the best outcome. Pedro was doing nothing, it appears, until Zim runs at him with his arms extended. Pedro acted in self defense by throwing the guy to the ground. What else could he do? Stand thare and be hit by this looney toone? Or engage in a brutal fight? Nope. Pedro was merciful and humane to the Girbil. Great stuff.
  16. I always wonder how much these guys are able to save if at all after commissions, taxes, etc. I bet most of them are too dumb to handle their money well.
  17. Sounds like good work if you can get it.
  18. I think that this was a very good move for the Yankees. For all of the reasons Jacko has mentioned plus. I have no idea why Drew went from being a legit MLB bat to being an instant out. I thought the concussion was the problem. The missed spring training, blah, blah, blah. I like his game when he hits. That D is plus and he can hit. Boy his value went into the crapper. Poor Boris.
  19. Yup. I always harp on this , I guess. Duquette rarely gets enough credit for helping the Sox move into the 20th Century. Pedro was a huge get for him. He liked him from his days in L.A. and traded for him twice. Good eye. But we did lose Carl Pavano!!!!!!
  20. This does make the Sox sort of thin at catcher. At least until the God Like Swihart is ready or brought up. I wonder if Butler signs a minor league deal with the Sox. Is that even possible? Lavarnway and Butler gone. Hmmm.
  21. Depth signing. This guy is typical of relief pitchers. He may come in handy this year.
  22. Of course we are not privy to what the Tigers FO is thinking so we can only assume and speculate. I suspect that they believed that they needed an OF bat more than a RH starting pitcher. Both players hit the FA market after the 2015 season so that is a wash, sort of. I do hope that the Sox are fully aware of any health concerns with Porcello. It would suck big time if he is damaged goods like Graig, for example. I am on record as being a fan of sorts of Porcello. Mostly because I remember him pitching well against the Sox. I think that we are making too much of the deals for these guys. Above all, the Sox got younger. That is key for many reasons.
  23. I find no reason to try to determine where this rotation ranks among the past 10 years. This rotations will be serviceable as long they remain healthy. Many other teams have had worse rotations and were capable of playing average to winning baseball. A number one starter would be nice. But even with a number one there is no assurance that the Sox will make the playoffs. Certainly this rotation is not one a team would want to try a 5-7 game elimination series with.
  24. I qualified my post. Like most teams the O's have their share of "Ifs". Yes, they will surely miss 40 hr from Cruze. They still need at least one OF. My guess is Rasmus. But there is speculation that the O's will go with an internal option. The Jays made some noise getting Martin and Donaldson. Not sure that will make THE difference. Although they certainly bolster the roster with quality D and power. It is said that the parent corp. Rogers is not inclined to spend anymore for the upcoming season. They need more pitching. Maybe Marcus Stoman will become a dominant pitcher? That kid has real talent from what I saw of him. In any case, the AL East will be fun watching. There are so many Ifs on all the teams.
  25. I hear people saying this but Baltimore is still quite formidable. They have quality starters and a lineup that should score a bunch of runs even with the loss of the juicer's 40 hr. Machado, Weiters, and Davis are due back. If all three of them return to play to norms, that team can win the East easily. If they don't, they are about as good as other ALE teams.
