    No idea who would sign him. Looking back at the deals guys like Vlad and Matsui got, Ortiz would actually benefit from the club option being exercised.

    True. The guy was considered the best pitching prospect of all time. Never said he was a product, just benefiting.

    Wrong. Guys like Price and Lincecum had at least 2/3's of a season under their belt. Hellickson will get nowhere close to that. Have they even said he will remain in the rotation? I'm not quite sure what his innings cap is this year.

    That's just dumb. I agree that Hellickson looks good and is going to succeed in the league but you just don't step into the league and become a top 10 guy.

    Are you sure Ortiz has the ability to become a free agent when the team holds that club option? I can't see to find a site with info about it.

    Nobody is going to pay Ortiz bigger money than that.

    They have a 12MM team option for Ortiz. Why give him additional years when they don't have to?

    Agreed. I don't like him playing but I suppose you could argue he hurt himself in a way that could have happened in non contact drills anyway.
