  1. Thanks, Example. I know this forum is dripping with internet machismo, but seriously, we're talking about a bona fide mental illness here. I've suffered from it myself in the past, and made the mistake of trying to will myself past it and not get treatment. It might be the biggest mistake of my life. It cost me my high school diploma and every shred of confidence in myself I ever had. It took me three years to straighten out my head, get my GED, and move on with my life.
  2. Adam Dunn is not a #4 hitter and offensive stalwart of a great lineup. He's a heck of a guy to have around as a third power hitter but he's not a first or second power hitter in a good lineup. The fact is that we're not really hurting that much for power between Bay, Youks, Martinez, and what we're getting from Lowell and Drew. An upgrade would be nice if you can fit it in, but that's a bit of a big if with our corners all filled with quality players. Our upgrades are either going to happen up the middle or are going to come at the cost of playing time for an existing roster player. Fortunately, VMart's versatility helps us there -- we could theoretically make a move for a power hitting first baseman (by which I mean an ACTUAL first baseman and not Adam Dunn) and make VMart the fulltime catcher. Other than that, the best offseason moves are to find a way to retain Bay and to get a two way player for the shortstop position.
  3. Tch. Fine. It's par for the course around here anyway.
  4. Frustrating sometimes, how a guy can be called out, respond once, and be told to "let it go."
  5. And I for one have no trouble paying for a lefthander like Wagner on a low risk deal. The team option really makes it a deal where the Sox would be hard pressed to lose. If Wagner is lights out down the stretch this year, take the option and have a heck of a setup man to pitch for you in 2010. If he isn't, don't pick up the option, and he's out of your way for the following season. The only way you really lose in this thing is if you take the option and he sucks next year.
  6. Clinical depression is a serious illness. Other sicknesses can target your ability to do thins, clinical depression inhibits your willingness to try. Imagine trying to compete at the major league level when even getting up in the morning and appearing outside your door is a difficult proposition.. Depending on the kind of depression this may need the help more of a clinical psychiatrist and the appropriate chemical remedy.
  7. And if you'll look, I agreed with you that it was a SIMILAR thread and that the content that started the post probably should have been posted in the other thread. A merger wouldn't be a tragedy. It is not, however, a DUPLICATE thread. Am I the only one that sees a difference between a thread where the OP said thataccording to an unconfirmed rumor an MLB team might have placed a claim on Wagner, and a thread which confirmed that it was the Sox? Frankly the thread Gosawk's thread was merged with probably belonged in MLB discussion, while Gosawk's thread clearly belonged here. there's no difference in the threads? Really?
  8. Probably would be better just to post this in the othre thread but this is not a "duplicate" thread,
  9. All for it. There's little downside in a move that might cost us at worst a few hundred K, the cost in talent will be a PTBNL, and it won't be that difficult to DFA him if he doesn't work out.
  10. Cleveland fan. Anyway, you're welcome to Masterson, we'll just keep VMart
  11. Wagner > Cabrera, and we could use a second LHP
  12. Would love to just make the lineup and the players in the field independent of each other. Your 9 best hitters in the lineup, your best fielders at every position. It's the next evoltion of the sport.
  13. JD Drew doesn't even begin to deserve the bad rap he gets from a certain subset of the fanbase
  14. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/Y/Kevin-Youkilis.shtml With all the useful things he does for us and all his versatility you'd think he could find his way into the lineup 150 times a year. What a wimp.
  15. Centerfield and right field are about as similar as third base and first base. That is to say, some things held in common but not really very similar at all. Drew has been quite productive this year, well in line with his career averages in slash stats and above those averages in games played. The only place he's suffered a little is batting average.
  16. Butch Hobson. Great start to his career, you sort of wonder what he could have wound up being if Zimmer hadn't decided to play him through a broken bone in his throwing arm for an entire season.
  17. I don't think "lucky" is the right word. Versatility seems to be something Theo prizes when he goes after players. Meaning that if this is luck, it's the kind you make for yourself.
  18. I saw some baiting there, but not by Jacoby
  19. Yep. A CIF who doesn't hit homers in the minors before age 24 can never make it in the big leagues.
  20. You're hardly the only one for whom Manny coming in doesn't inspire confidence. It could just be something as simple as us all being on hand for his rookie struggles in 2006.
  21. Delcarmen is either our second or third best relief pitcher.
  22. It may be corny, but I've gotta say it anyway. HOW SWEEP IT IS!!!
  23. Funny, I feel the opposite way about those two pitchers. Like Delcarmen, don't trust Oki as much.
