  1. Without the benefit of hindsight, counting on Okajima for the 8th inning is not an insane decision. He should have gotten him out earlier, but based on the conversation he had with Farrell it might just be that no one was warm by the time it was obvious he needed to make a move. Oki fell apart pretty quickly.
  2. Call me crazy but I'd rather see Bard here. But Oki crapped the bed Tito wasn't left with a ton of choice.
  3. Then we just have this problem an inning earlier.
  4. Gutsy move by Tito. if this backfires he'll take some heat.
  5. Get. Him. Out. Of. This. Game.
  6. Hideki Okajima needs very badly to be out of this game 3 battes ago.
  7. K time to get Oki out of there. He doesn't have it today.
  8. Also Buchholz and Paps will need to be taken care of, and the yearly increases for the already signed players will take up a lot of that slack. Still a good point though.
  9. Ellsbury has the wheels to manufacture a little power by legging out doubles, but he's not here to hit bombs. It's not part of the job description and frankly I'd rather he focused on hitting opposite field line drives. His job is getting on base and making pitchers sweat, and he does OK at it. His job is also scoring runs, and he does pretty well at that too.
  10. Still a good candidate for 25-30 HR's though. He's better than a melange of rushed rookies in left if we can't bring Bay back.
  11. There isn't really a ton of difference between Dye in left and Bay in left, but given my druthers I'd keep the younger player too, when possible.
  12. I have to admit that if the Sox don't get out of the first round with as talented a team as they have I'll feel they left something on the field.
  13. let the Chicago firesale commence. If we lose Bay, we might be able to work a deal in the offseason for Jermaine Dye.
  14. I'd be more sanguine about a series with the Angels if I thought we could contain their speed game a bit better. I have no way to stop Varitek from seeing at least one of those games behind the plate, and Figgins, Aybar, Matthews, Hunter, Izturis, all running at will makes me nervous.
  15. Matt Diaz broke it up in the 6th
  16. Josh Johnson through 5.
  17. That would be stressful. A nice, quiet coast to the ring ceremony would suit me better.
  18. Ellsbury would have 15 HR's in New Yankee Stadium.
  19. I still wish they'd back off that new road jersey. It just doesn't look right.
  20. If Baldelli is healthy Gathright is unlikely to make the postseason roster.
  21. Ellsbury vs. Kalish would be an interesting debate. Ellsbury is one of those rare elite speedsters that really does what a lot of guys like Gathright or Willy Taveras are developed because someone's deluded themselves they can do. On the other hand Kalish is going to have gap power and perhaps more, for a much more complete 5 tool offensive profile -- but less base stealing speed at the big league level, more sneaky speed than blinding toolsy speed.
  22. Make one heck of a 4th OF.
  23. Even beyond the fact that it worked out well for us and Camp executed it poorly, I'm totally baffled why any trained ballplayer would even try to make that play. Was there ANY justification to throwing to third in that situation? Less than 2 outs, runners on the corners, Ellsbury taking off for second, ground ball right to the mound. Gonzalez was off the bag yes, but the proper play is pretty obvious -- look Gonzo back and throw to first. Take the easy out and work to the next hitter. Instead he was trying to... I dunno what, catch Gonzo napping off the bag? Even if he nails that throw Gonzo dives back in a close tag play and Pedroia reaches on a fielder's choice -- 50% chance of loading the bases. Was it a pure bonehead decision or was there something Camp was trying to do and it just didn't work? Is there ANY reason to throw to third?
  24. So that sounds like he's becoming more selective about what he swings at but is still adjusting to the greater selectivity.
  25. But when you start talking about how a roster is constructed, you do have to bring up where the team went with that construction.
