  1. That'd work too, but I'm pretty sure the Padres would rather their big offensive ROI not be a 1B -- Blanks is the guy they want at 1B longterm IMHO. If Lars went over as part of the best package that wouldn't stop 'em but there's other directions they'd rather go.
  2. Lars to 1B, Youk to 3B
  3. The thing that intrigues me is that if he fails at catcher he clearly has third base on his resume. That's a rather large franchise weakness right now, and it's a situation that's about to come up too, along with the catcher's position. So it looks like Ibarra gets two bites at big league respectability. I like. Even if he's below average at either position, and he hits, he'll have a place on a team coming off the bench as an uber-flexible Ryan Doumit/Brandon Inge type .
  4. Well put, Rhet.
  5. IT'S NOT ABOUT THIS YEAR people. If it was about this year Bay would be a Red Sox. The issue behind their reason not to sign Bay has to do with what they think he'll be in the middle to end of the deal -- 3-5 years from now. If that knee doesn't hold up Bay gets a lot less useful very quickly -- especially in the National League. Knee injuries affect both offense and defense at the same time. Again -- it doesn't MATTER what he does this year. It doesn't matter if he MURDERS the ball THIS year. Not to the debate over whether or not to sign him to a 5 year deal anyway. The Red Sox fully intend to be contenders in 5 years too and Bay may or may not be useful by then.
  6. Fair enough. Great job by the Habs.
  7. Oh what a wonderful, relaxing game.
  8. Honestly, there's a problem with that. Would Thomas even accept a trade that basically dumps him for nothing? Bit of an insult to him, and he's never impressed me as the kind to take an insult lying down. Besides which, if you can get a return that improves the team it's incumbent on Chia to go to get one, even if it's jut a third round pick.
  9. Don't wanna pay $20 for a whole year of online baseball audio? You're cheaper than I am, and I've been without a consistent income for about 6 years now. Heck you're probably paying more just to run the computer while listening to your old online stream sources.
  10. MLB is in the business of making money. it might not be for sale, but it could be for lease/license/some other form of approved, paid for distribution by anyone willing to pony up enough dough. Since no one has been willing to do that and MLB is already in the business of doing it themselves it's sort of a moot point though.
  11. Probably if there were any, MLB Advanced Media sniffed them out like they do MLB broadcast clips on Youtube and handed them a little old C&D order.
  12. This was a rumor coming from the Philly Flyers' own sources BS21 -- not even from Boston's. Thomas is one of the better "available" goaltenders in therms of SV% and GAA this year, only RFA Jaroslav Halak is clearly better, and you know Halak will cost more talent. The contract in raw dollar terms is roughly appropriate for a player of his skill (equal or superior statistical goaltenders tend to get paid a bit more, actually). It isn't inconceivable that someone might send us an equally expensive veteran back who would fill a hole for us (read: Gagne) if Thomas represents a sufficiently significant upgrade (which in Philly, he would). Philly is also one of the teams Thomas could realistically consider suspending his NMC to go to, since they're playoff contenders.
  13. Yeah it's a licensing agreement issue. Broadcasting online is essentially broadcasting the games nationally, and NWIH a little one or two horse radio station can pay for that. So they don't purchase the license that would allow them to do that and so they can't broadcast their streams online during games. They could get sued for a lot of money if they did. It costs $20/year to afford the online radio package from MLB.com and you get access to EVERY radio stream from EVERY team. Pretty good value actually. If you can pay for Internet at all, you can afford the Gameday Audio package. (I wish there was a reduced rate service that just covered WEEI for $5. But oh well)
  14. If we expose Philly's goaltending that makes them more likely to be a customer for Timmeh. The virtues of a Philly-Boston trade matchup sending Thomas one way and a veteran scorer the other have already been discussed so I'll say no more on that. If Thomas' final legacy as a Bruin is to bring Simon Gagne to Boston, that'll be a fitting end of his tenure IMHO.
  15. That start was just so huge from Buchholz. We desperately needed a long start to preserve the pen and we got exactly that.
  16. Buchholz has been absolutely brilliant.
  17. But... but I thought Fenway was a great place for RHH to hit homers!!!!!!
  18. Solid performance from a pitcher struggling to rebound. Solid performance from a team struggling to rebound. GREAT work by Buchholz.
  19. RR's stuff looks nonsucky tonight.
  20. ... STILL rather see Delcarmen. Even if he does bounce back this isn't a great time to be taking that risk.
  21. Ramon Ramirez? .... I think I'd rather see Delcarmen.
  22. That's great news if true. MDC's performance will be pivotal -- if he sucks, it'll really hurt us, if he dominates, there's a strong awesomeness potential.
  23. Then Buch will start the inning, There's 2 outs and the last could come on the next pitch. Whether or not we agree, that's what Tito's going with.
