  1. Youk -- and we make a deal for a power hitting 1B. But it's gotta be a guy who'll be here and productive next year too -- NO rentals.
  2. Spell Tim Bogar's name right, at least. We're about due to turn over the pitching coach, since firing the coach is the first knee-jerk reaction of a team encountering underperformance. He hasn't been able to fix any of the guys he claimed he could fix either (Smoltz, Penny) even though other coaches could turn them around. So I wouldn't weep at this point if Farrell moved along. Frankly, I know it would never happen, but I think Curt Schilling would make one heck of a pitching coach. He pretty much lived on command and a low 90's fastball and was able to stay effective on that basis deep into his decline. He has old-pitcher's skills that some of our young guys could benefit from learning.
  3. It's too easy to start going after the coaching when the team starts underperforming. DeMarlo Hale is missed, but I don't think 3B coach is that big of a problem yet. that said, anything you can do to improve the team going forward, do it.
  4. Good first win on the road.
  5. I don't see enough to lead me to believe this team can/will put itself in position where one big addition can make that much of a difference. If we make moves, they need to be with an eye towards 2011.
  6. Analyzing this strike zone demands the proper tools. http://www.microscopy.ws/themes/default/img/microscope.jpg
  7. "It's just a sling," yeah, a good slingsman could hurl a stone nearly as fast as an old-fashioned flintlock musket could fire a bullet, and all you need it work is a handy source of round-enough rocks. And then there's "staff slings." Vicious in the right hands and one of the most underrated weapons ever. Also the kid was apparently a real physical specimen, and had killed tougher things than Goliath by the time he brought the big man down. Now if you want a real I'm-at-a-huge-disadvantage-and-win-anyway Biblical moment, go check out Gideon.
  8. Daisuke's hitting 93 and staying there all night is a HUGE sign. That's where he was before he hit the rocks in August of '07. If he can sustain that, or at least have 93 to fall back on whenever he needs it, then I'm gonna call it right now -- Daisuke bounces back all the way to longshot Cy Young contention.
  9. Excellent. Gotta win this.
  10. Holy crap they tied it?
  11. All of these games today and Boston won't be winning any of them. *sigh*
  12. If you don't mind, I'd rather win by 1 goal in the third this time. If we go up too high too early we can count on Philly to add guys to our injured reserve.
  13. Yes. Yes they're bouncing back. Yes they're getting lucky. Yes, it's probably too early to draw any conclusions.
  14. Canadiens even the series.
  15. Bruins officially announce that Krejci is definitely done for the season. In much better news, Mark Stuart is cleared to play.
  16. A dislocation means in theory that all the delicate little bones are fine and once everything's back in place and healed up, it should stay put. less chance of long term aftereffects destroying the kid's career. It doesn't affect us now, we've still lost a huge piece of our playoff puzzle, but it IMHO means that its' less likely to affect us next year -- we'll get the Krejci we're used to IOW. So it's a bit of mercy in an otherwise absolutely disastrous situatio.
  17. Just got some quasi-confirmation from Bruins twitter. Dislocated wrist. He's out for the season but will be fine for next year. thank God it wasn't a break.
  18. Still nothing from the Bruins org. Holding out for them.
  19. Rumors are still percolating, all of the curren ones seem to hail back to one reporter on the Flyers' circuit so nothing even close to cut and dried.
  20. They taught me not to give random bozos straight answers just because they ask.
  21. ohhhhhhhhhhhhh crap http://www.nesn.com/2010/05/report-david-krejci-done-for-season-with-broken-wrist.html That's that, without Krejci I just can't see us beating Pittsburgh. We'll get through the second round and I certainly won't rule out the chance for a miracle but that's probably it. EDIT well dang this might niot be true. I really hope it isn't
