  1. I think Youk has more outfield experience than Gonzalez. And Beltre is a better 3B
  2. The two switch hitters are, I presume, Jed Lowrie and Jarrod Saltalamacchia/Jason Varitek.
  3. I hope so because that would be awesome.
  4. Worth would be OK. That could work. IF we get him though, he's in RF and Drew's in left. Combination of Werth's superior arm and reduced wear and tear on JD.
  5. Coming to Fenway will take away 5 HR's and add 10-15 doubles and 20 points to the BA.
  6. So easily second, and competitive with #1.
  7. They did a good job of keeping things on the DL this year. Ellsbury, Pedroia, Youkilis...
  8. If Lowrie reaches his potential and stays healthy that's one heck of an infield over the next 4 years or so. Strong defense and offense at every position. Kinda helps take the pressure off Catcher offensively, especially if we subsequently sort out the OF. The only risk is that Youk has lost range and can't hack it full time at 3B anymore, or can't do so and stay healthy. It's a non-negligible risk. I don't think it happens that way though.
  9. Holy crap that's a good deal, especially with Kelly's stock on the low side after last year. Bring it home and finish it off, Theo! Get him and sign him to that epic extension he wants.
  10. Doubront is more valuable to SD than he is to us, because we don't have a rotation spot for him going forward and they do. I like him too but trading a guy for high level veterans is as good a use for a solid prospect as most others. You don't have to keep them all. The only reason I hold Kalish out is that I think he's going to be a really special player. Doubront is decent but I don't think he has a #1 SP ceiling which he has to to be comparable to a 5 tool CF potential like Kalish.
  11. Wouldn't mind parting with Iglesias, but that's because I think Navarro's a better prospect than y'all do. Hitting decently as a 22 YO SS in AAA is a very good sign, I've been surprised how not-seriously people have been taking him on that basis. Also I'm just plain not convinced by Iglesias' bat to date. Not that I think he'll suck, I'm just not sold that he's more than a defense guy.
  12. Maybe an odd thought with random timing, but I'm going through Sox history in my mind and I can't honestly think of very many really good second basemen in Sox history. Certainly not any in my lifetime -- Reed was pretty good, but "pretty good" is where he left it, and other than him, when we have had decent second basemen they tended to be journeymen signed to short term deals. I mean maybe you could go back into the 40's looking for a second baseman of that caliber, but I think you have to go at least that far back. In a team with this much history I'd be hard pressed to call him the best 2B of all time, but frankly the more I look at our history the less I'm impressed by his competition. 2B has been an unaccountably weak position for the Red Sox historically for some reason. So who have we had, as Red Sox second basemen*, who compares favorably with the guy we have right now? *"Second basemen" as defined by that's the position they played most for us, and they played there at least 3 seasons as a full time starter for the Red Sox. EDIT: Yeah, I was fumbling around for the name of "that guy in the 40's" and I finally remembered Bobby Doerr's name. Knew he was there, just forgot the moniker. And anyay, I don't think Pedey really compares that unfavorably with Doerr. YMMV, of course.
  13. That would be very awesome. Youk at 3B, Adgon at 1B, go around the horn Youk, Lowrie/Iglesias, Pedey, Adgon, that's danged solid. Now just fix the outfield up and we're good to go.
  14. Not quite as remarkable because when we played SD they were still discombobulated. They're a big name team, but if I can list 3 wins against high level contenders that were playing well when we saw them, mentioning one that wasn't is unnecessary.
  15. If this was BCS and we were competing for the same bowl spot, the Patriots would win in a walk on strength of schedule. Who have the Jets played and beaten that can hold a candle to our wins against Baltimore, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh?
  16. The only prospect I'd hold out right now given the chance is Kalish. Anyone else is expendable at this time, including Kelly and Iglesias.
  17. This one is different.
  18. Kalish is a 5 tool CF. Those are pure gold.
  19. Kalish straight up for Gonzo? It could happen, which is pretty good evidence of how high I am on Kalish. I'd be anxious to keep RK though with Drew in his last year especially if we pick Crawford. Crawford won't play right field. I think if we keep him he'll have proven that was the right decision within the next 2 years.
