  1. He could join the Fenway Park Maintenance Staff for the season. Maybe he can be Manny's personal bitch.
  2. I think 100 K in 45 games is lowballing Pena... lol. I'm not sure about you guys, but I don't call him Wily Mo Pena. I call him Wily Mo K-out. Texas sox fan, have you actually seen him play before? He looks like an abused puppy at the plate. I honestly think that his decision to swing or take a pitch is completely random. He just looks uncomfortable. And thats his strength. Lets not even talk about his lack of Defensive Skills.
  3. Are you crazy? 30 perfect games! Yuk. If he doesn't throw at least 32 perfect games hes a waist..... Honestly, I don't know what to expect from this kid. I think it is very possible he has upwards of 16 wins and an era less than 3, but I don't know. Thats hard. He has great stuff though. Top notch command, great velocity, unbelievable breaking pitches, he's 26, and he seems like he has nerves of steel (World baseball classic MVP and he works his ass off). He also throws 6-7 pitches, at least 3 of which can be considered his out-pitch. I'm real excited to see this kid pitch at Fenway.
  4. Thats the funniest thing I've seen in heard in a while. My Pena prejections for next season: 45 games, .270 BA, 10 HRs, 23 RBI, .300 OBP, .550 SLG, 100 K
  5. If the gap really is only $3 million and I were Theo, I would hold on the $8 million per season offer until they were ready to leave CA, then accept the $11 million if Boras didn't flinch. $3 million more to have Matsuzaka is worth it. Anyways, in this market, that isn't unreasonable.
  6. Where is Matsuzaka in all this? Supposedly it's been his dream to play in the majors, yet we haven't seen him active at all during this process. If he were really that set on playing in the MLB, why have we heard almost nothing from him in the last few weeks?
  7. The sox don't have an extra day to sign him. 12:00 AM Friday IS 11:59:60 PM, or midnight Thursay.
  8. The key to their success will be their health. If they stay healthy, they have a good shot at winning their division. Their pitching has major durability issues. Wood hasn't been able to stay healthy in the last few years, Prior is always injured, Wade Miller has had major injury problems in the last 3 season. It's nice that they now have Lilly, but at least Prior will need to stay healthy for them to seriously conted. If they can't stay off the DL, the Cubs will be in serious trouble. Their offense looks real good and should have any realy injury worries.
  9. I have heard that Manny sometimes purposely takes bad swings at some pitches. It is said that sometimes if he gets a pitch he likes early in the game, he may take an ugly swing, hoping to make the pitcher go back to that pitch several times. He can then wait on it and crush it. He is simply amazing. If he is determined to to drive in runs, he does.
  10. I really really really hope he gets hit by a car. If he break the HR record it will be a disgrace to baseball.
  11. I'd say FA wise, sign Matsuzaka and Gagne. Gagne might be $6 million gareenteed, but i think its worth the risk. Matsuzaka is a must. Other than that, we can trade to get bullpen depth and were looking good.
  12. Ya, a year at $16 million. Way way too much. Frank Thomas is getting $9 million a year and he was more productive than Bonds last season, and is also 4 years younger. Bonds isn't worth any more than $10 million. Even that is crazy. What are the Giants thinking? Im really suprised the Giants take their time. I'm sure it would have gotten to the point where he either signs with the Giants for what they offer, or he doesn't play next season. It was obvious no other team wanted him.
  13. I was really hoping he wouldn't play. Lets hope he doesn't break Hanks record.
  14. Are you telling me that the owner of the Lions can't ever give John Henry a personal check?
  15. I really don't think its a big deal if some money is thrown around between Matsuzaka, the Lions, and the Red Sox. If they sign Matsuzaka, then the lions pay Matsuzaka some money just out of the kindness of their heart, then give the red sox some money for some business moves, I'd be just fine.
  16. I disagree. I think you could see that the market was going to be extremely expensive this year. Maybe not to the point it has turned out to be, but I could see why Boras would want Drew to test the free agent market. I honestly don't think the sox "tampered" with him.
  17. I don't care how much the payroll is. Are you paying it? Hell, if we had a $180 million payroll, I'd be just fine if we invested in good players. I hate that soo many Sox fans hate when we spend Money. We have the second highest payroll & budget in baseball. We are SUPPOSED to spend lots of money. You should be happy your team has a lot of money to spend and isn't having trouble like KC.
  18. Right now im about ready to pray to a god I don't even think exists. I might cry myself to sleep tonight if Manny is no longer with the Red Sox.
  19. Wake is good at eating up innings. He is perfect for a starter or long reliever. Also, since he is a knuckleball pitcher, he tends to walk more batters than I would like in closer. You want someone who can go out there throwing strikes and really keeping the batter off ballance. Ideally, you also want them to throw heat, but command is just as important. Wake, therefore, would be a horrible option as a closer.
  20. Yes, at this point he is their best option. I just hate how our FO has gone through SS. When you have 11 people filling in at SS over just 2 years, theres something wrong. I still don't understand the sox's eagerness to get rid of Renteria last season. He had one bad Defensive season and a good offensive season and they just shipped him out.
  21. Well, he has made 136 errors in the 6 seasons hes played, for a fielding % of .966 Anyway you try to cut that, he just isn't a good fielder. He has made at least 20 errors in 4 of his last 6 years, just falling one shy of that mark last season. YUK. We really should have kept Renteria.
  22. I think thats a good lineup. Got some nice speed between Lugo, Drew, and Crisp, 3 power hitters plus Willie Mo Strikeout Pena. I like I like.
  23. It hasn't confirmed that he signed, just suggesting that he will sign with the sox.
  24. Manny will hopefully stay. Tito said he thinks Manny won't be traded at this point and the team is about to stop shopping him around. Drew will be a great addition in the #5 spot. Lugo Youk Ortiz Manny Drew That gives me a smile.
  25. Theo announced that he will only shop Manny through Wednesday. Looks like theres a good chance he will be staying put with us. The article also says the sox are close to signing Drew. Im getting excited. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20061204&content_id=1750311&vkey=hotstove2006&fext=.jsp Let the count down to keeping Manny begin.
