  1. Ortiz and Manny are going deep and Beckett is going to pick up his 7th win (knocking on wood).
  2. I'm a fan of Penn and Teller and having watched an episode on breasts I was thinking about MLB's use of pink bats. Fans can buy a pink bat and $10 of the price will go to one of the many breast cancer foundations. I don't know what the exact price of the bats will be, but I'm guessing they won't be cheap. Wouldn't it make FAR more sense to donate $100, or what ever the price of the bat is, directly to the foundation, instead of getting a stupid pink bat while giving $90 to MLB and only $10 to the foundation? I really wonder if MLB makes a profit from these pink bats. It almost seems like people just want to appear to care about breast cancer by buying a pink ribbon, than actually doing the most for the cause. I noticed this at my school too. Many people loved getting pink ribbons and buying s*** in the name of breast cancer, but very few actually donated money straight to foundations. You have to remember, someone is making money from this. For the pink bats thing, either Louisville or the wood company they get their lumber from, or someone is making a profit off all those bats that would otherwise be going to the cancer foundations. Seems like alot of this is driving by businesses seeing the potential in this type of marketing.
  3. No wonder... This story is out of context. It was said in a discussion about Barry Bonds and steroids. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2863623
  4. That is a worthless and pointless "story"
  5. Clemens isn't worth $28 million for 2/3 of a season. He isn't even worth $18 million for 2/3 of a season. The Yankees paid way way way too much for him in desperation and the Sox didn't because we don't need him. End of story. He improves the Yankees, not a real $28 million improvement, but an improvement non the less. As for trading Tavarez, the Rockies want to get rid of Helton. Thats why the trade talks started and thats why they might seem interested in Tavarez. They aren't going to part with Holiday.
  6. How did the sox make a mistaka letting him go to NY? The contract seems to be around $28 million. They WAY overpaid him. We would have had to offer at least that much and the sox dont need him. He's 44 and will give them 21 starts AT BEST. If the sox had signed him for $30 million, every sox fan would be pissed we spent that much on him and the Yankees would laugh at us and claim the only way we could win was to block the Yankees from getting him (Ironic it would be). But that didnt happen and for good reason. I hope him well in the Bronx (or so I have to say) and hope the sox crush him every start. But I don't think it will be enough to get the Yankees to the playoffs this year.
  7. I completely agree and that is one of the reasons why I dont think he will get traded. The sox dont want to be in the possition they were in last season.
  8. The biggest question marks in our offense is CF, 2B, SS, and LF (can he stay healthy). They are keeping Coco and with Ellsbury due next season and the great FA market for CF if he stays in the minors. They are sticking with Pedroia and they signed Lugo and Drew to big deals, so they aren't going anywhere. Therefore, we aren't going to improve our offense. If someone goes down for a good portion of the season, then you might see a trade. Otherwise, Forget about it!
  9. The sox are not going to make Youk a utility player. If I were manager, I might be tempted to do that, but there is no way the sox would do that. Youk is their commited 1B right now and he isn't going anywhere, especially not the bench.
  10. under 3 era... Are they crazy? He hasn't had a sub 3 ERA since 98. Thats 8 years ago. He'd be lucky to post a sub 4 ERA pitching in the AL East at 44. I think 12 wins is a stretch. I think he'll have 10 wins or less.
  11. Nate, 1. Why would Colorado want or even be willing to take Clement? 2. What the hell are you going to do with Helton? You still have Lowell at 3rd. Unless they then trade Lowell, they got no where to put him. And the fact that our team is clicking and Lowell is off to a great start, I don't see them wanting to trying and do a 3-way trade. It ain't going to happen.
  12. I don't see a trade that could help our offense. It seems that the FO wants to keep Crisp in CF, they obviously wont touch Manny or Drew. Lowell is productive and great defensively, so unless your getting an all-star player, forget that spot. You know they don't want to keep Youk in the lineup, theres no open DH spot, Lugo isn't going anywhere, and I am sure they aren't giving up Pedroia/Cora spot at 2nd. So where would you add to the offense. Lets face it, unless we get an all-star for 3rd, 2nd, or CF, we aren't improving our offense. Realistically, were not going to get an all-star player with Tavarez, prospect, _____. And remember, the only way we could trade Lowell is if we get 1B or 3B from a trade. And remember the fact that the Sox are unwilling to part with our pitching "prospects"; a trade ain't going to happen.
  13. I still think the matchups in Toronto highly favor us. Becket vs Zambrano should be an easy W, Matsuzaka vs Ohka: if Matsuzaka turns it up then we win, if not, it will be a close game. Wake vs Halladay: best chance for Toronoto, but if Wake continues to pitch well, it will be a close game. We still should be able to take 2-3 easy, hopefully we'll sweep though.
  14. I love the matchups. Beckett and Matsuzaka should be great. I expect Matsuzaka to bounce back. Then Wake has been outstanding. Against their pitching, I can easily see us sweeping, or taking 2 out of 3 at the worst. Enjoy your day off, then go get 'em boys!
  15. Nice win. Sox will be able to go into Toronto with a series win. Hopefully they will keep up the momentum, we all know the troubles they have had playing at Roger Centre.
  16. He still seems to be having some trouble hitting his spots...
  17. It looked like they got Cora by a split-second, it was a good call.
  18. Where would you put him? Lowell is off to a great start and is gold glove caliber, and you know they want to keep youk playing. So where would you put him? The only thing to do would be move youk to 3rd and have Helton at 1st, but then you weaken the D at 3rd. Just thinking about value, I wouldn't like it. We would be paying more for Helton, and have to deal with his long contract, where Lowell's contract is up after this season. Also, the sox would have to give Col tavarez, probably Lowell, and a prospect. Thats too much for him. He wouldn't be a significant upgrade to Lowell, if an upgrade at all.
  19. Clemens will be nothing better than a #3 guy in NY. A lot of AL teams will crush him.
  20. Yes, get Manny in there. He doesn't need 2 straight days off.
  21. f*** f*** f*** f*** f***. Lets get out of this inning and gets some damned runs.
