I have a ton of respect of Mariano Rivera. There simply can't be enough said about the man, a class act and a Hall-of-Fame talent. And I want to say Derek Jeter, I desperately want to be able to say Jeter. But I can't, and the worst part is, I know it's not Jeter's fault. I'm just so sick of the media telling me a million times each year how Derek Jeter is the greatest. I'm sick of hearing ridiculous media gushing over how he is a 'winner.' Yes, he's a winner. Yes, he's a great player who has had the prime of his career in a great organization in one of their greatest eras ever. But he is NOT the be-all, end-all of the Yankees. He is NOT winning personified. When he dove into the stands at Fenway and got his face cut. That was ONE OUT. Great play, great effort, I'm sick of hearing about it. ESPN has simply killed whatever respect I could have for Jeter, I want to respect him, but I simply can't stand what his image has become. Of course, the other guys I respect are Mussina, Wang, Matsui and Posada. Mussina is another great class act who has always been a quality pitcher. Wang is a fantastic young talent who I can respect immensely. Matsui is such a quality guy I can't even fathom it: he apologized to the team and the fans after breaking his wrist while making an amazing diving catch. Who does that? Posada is a good catcher, and I can always respect a good catcher.
