  1. I had heard one of the B's and Nunez was the DBacks offer and Cash passed on it
  2. I think Scutaro starts the season as your SS with Lowrie subbing in for him about twice a week. Then, if the sox stay healthy and if Pedroia shows no ill effects from his foot injury, Scutaro will be shopped. It makes no sense to install Lowrie as the starting SS right now as it kills your trade value for Scutaro. If everyone stays healthy and Lowrie shows he is ready for an escalation, then Scutaro gets moved
  3. In retrospect, it was an error. It was an error I would have made too. Unfortunately, y228 was right. It left us with a hole that will be really hard to fill if Pettitte stays home
  4. I am not saying that's who they will get, but I guarantee they'll ask about him. There is always a surprise team that sells before the deadline, especially players that seemed to be under contract or untradeable.
  5. Sounds like Fausto Carmona is on the block again. He was a popular name being bandied about around the trade deadline. He's signed rather reasonably on options through 2014. After dominating in 2007, he had two injury plagued seasons where a hip injury really hindered him. He came back strong last yr to the tune of 210.1IP 3.77ERA 1.31WHIP and a nice 1.30GO/AO ratio (although well off his career numbers). He just turned 27 as well. He shouldnt cost as much as a Felix or Greinke would since he isnt a true blue ace, just mostly a workhorse sinkerballer type (when healthy). Might not be a bad idea
  6. Depth move. I am fine with depth moves, but we need 1 more RH reliever who is reliable. And with Nolasco signing his extension, that takes another possibility off the board on the starters end
  7. There's a reason for that. The 2010 Yankee minor leaguers had a ridiculous season. We lost 3 high potential players to season ending injuries (Garcia, Bleich, Abe Almonte), but we also got two guys back from TJ early who showed dominant stuff on return (Betances and Brett Marshall). The pitching took a major step forward with Stoneburner, Phelps, Warren, Brackman, Noesi, Betances and Banuelos showing dominant stuff leading to in season promotions. The offensive end saw Montero end the yr like a beast and also locked down the MVP's in the AA and A+ leagues (Laird and Mesa). It was an incredible season
  8. The Yankees have a very strong farm system led by the best offensive prospect in the game and probably the best pitching farm system and best catching system in the game. Their deficits sit at the corner IF guys and the corner OF guys. I like their CF options (Mesa, A. Almonte, Heathcott) and their middle infield options (Nunez, Culver, Adams, Joseph). Their catching depth is second to none (Montero, Romine, Murphy, Higashioka, Sanchez). Outside of Montero, there are no other no doubt offensive starters above Tampa, which is why I think they take a hit. But the pitching is ridiculous
  9. In the 5-10 range. Probably around #7
  10. Looks like the Yanks have turned their attention to Jon Rauch for their pen. I think he'd be the complementary piece that the young pen could need. We have the best closer. We have a bunch of young guys who have shown promise (Joba) or solid production (Robertson) and we have 2 lefties capable of shutting down lefties. We could use someone to fill Wood's role, and I think Rauch could do that
  11. I still think that from 2011-2013, he'll still be a 6-7 WAR guy, which is elite
  12. There is that possibility, but you also negate a little bit of it by moving to a lefty unfriendly ballpark. Remember, Damon showed a lot of his power with a very short porch in RF
  13. The Halos will bounce back IMO and win the AL East. Kendry Morales back with likely Beltre and a full yr of Haren makes them the favorites out west. Dont disagree on the rest in the AL though. The Yanks and Sox are interchangeable with the sox probably in the drivers seat right now.
  14. The DBacks committed to Montero when they dealt Snyder
  15. Players with his skill set do not typically age well. His game outside of his incredible speed is pedestrian at best, especially for a corner OFer. And when the legs slow down, so does his D, which adds significantly to his value.
  16. Wheeler is a good depth move. He reminds me a lot of David Robertson. Sneaky fastball with surprising K numbers, although Wheeler is much more accurate
  17. Yanks offered 2yrs and $10 mil to Wood and he turned it down to sign for $1.5mil in Chicago. He really wanted to go back
  18. Olerud is not a great player
  19. Looks like the Yankees are trying to trade for Jeff Keppinger as their utility man. This can only mean that Nunez is headed to AAA and who knows what with Pena
  20. All the bolded player above will eventually get in, IMO. The steroid guys will eventually since they are 500+HR guys and the non-roiders on the list should be no-brainers eventually. Alomar was a franchise 2b who was amazing at the plate, with the glove, and on the basepaths. He'd be first on my list
  21. For now, you go with all 3 in the back of the pen forming a rather formidable back end assuming Jenks can get his s*** together and Papelbon doesnt regress for the 4th straight year. If Jenks shows he has the goods, then Papelbon is easily shed and the sox can go with Bard and Jenks
  22. Feliciano has also dominated lefties and has shown he is as durable as any reliever out there. He has averaged 89 appearances over the last three seasons, and he held lefties to a .583OPS over the last 3 seasons. He and Logan should be solid left handed options out of the pen and if Marte can come back by the ASB, then bonus. Especially with the sox in division, this was a necessity that can be checked off the list of needs.
