  1. Go Irish!!!!!
  2. Do what Kraft did and move the sox to the burbs. Create a Red Sox place filled with shopping malls, food, etc and rake in the profits.
  3. The guy is a f***ing beast. He hit 37 bombs and had an OPS of .969 in 123 games. Obviously the OPS carried over any sample size, but 37 bombs in that time period puts him on a 49HR pace for a full season and he hasnt even physically matured yet. He just turned 23. When he's 27 or 28, he might be hitting 50HRs with regularity. The fish are better off waiting at least one more yr to deal him. If he continues his upward move and puts up a silly .300/.380/.650 season with 50+HRS and 120+RBI, then his value will rise even if his yrs left under control drops by 1. If they deal him in the offseason next yr, he'd command a Herschel Walker type return
  4. a700, the job at the big league level is harder than it is in the minors just because of what you are saying. These kids coming from the Dominican with horrid mechanics but 95mph arms need everything revamped. But when you have a guy whose mechanics look perfect but they're opening up a split second early or they are short-arming by a couple inches, then choosing the tinker is the art of the position. No matter how great the pitcher, someone familiar with their mechanics will help them, especially when little things are tipping them off kilter.
  5. And I REALLY hope he ends up in Fenway. Small parks and big stages make Javy a dull boy
  6. He isnt going to take a minor league deal. He'll get a big league offer with some money to it, something in the range of $5 mil or so
  7. Red Sox are looking at Javier Vazquez, who wants to return for 2013. Please, please, please make this happen.
  8. Kalish probably has one more yr to prove he can play at the big league level. If this kid languishes in the minors or has a prolonged tryout and fails in the bigs, he'll be on another team next yr
  9. If healthy, you have to see what you have in him.
  10. BSN, what is Clay Buchholz' norm? He hasnt been healthy enough to establish one. We know what Lester was capable of doing before he took a nosedive, but what can anyone expect from Buchholz? He's bipolar, injury prone and has too many stretches of ineffectiveness.
  11. 90% recover, 10% have surgical complications. In terms of velocity, those who return with intact velocity are typically young, under 28 yrs old. Those who see a gain in velocity are those who had chronic tears of the UCL rather than the acute tear (think Strasburg for an acute tear) and are typically younger as well. The older guys coming off TJS tend to lose some velo
  12. The current pick for the sox would be the #44 pick they'd have to give up, a pick worth over $1 mil in slot money. Losing that slot money and that pick would be devastating for what should be a productive draft for them. I expect the sox to draft and sign a college player in the first round, sign them well under slot then parse out the remaining cash all through the draft to bring in a deep haul of prospects. Losing that second rounder would nullify that effort
  13. I agree. He'll get in by 2016 or so
  14. Schill belongs in the hall. As does Pettitte
  15. I agree with you there a700. I think they'll stick with Rubby until he flames out completely or hashes out a big league role just due to his ceiling. But Webster is one strong Matt Barnes stretch away from becoming trade bait.
  16. It's a tough spot to be in for the players and the management. A healthy Napoli fits incredibly well for the sox. Catcher, 1b, part time DH to give Papi a break and his bat would crush the ball at Fenway. An unhealthy Napoli relegates him to 1b, DH, or DL duty, which takes some of his versatility away. LaRoche locks up 1b with a good defender and a power bat, but 3 yrs at his age, plus his tendencies in your own park make him less of a fit. I don't think the sox end up with LaRoche, IMO. Not worth spending top dollar on a poor fit. They'll either renegotiate with Napoli or get secondary medical opinions that appease their own docs or move on with neither. They know what its like to make a move just to make a move. And getting LaRoche at big money with the cap number in sight isnt the right move
  17. It wouldnt be as a starting catcher. He'd be part time catcher, part time 1b, part time DH and still be able to crack the lineup 120 times or so
  18. I agree. No reason for Rubby to be in the pen to start 2013. He stays a starter for half a season and either excels and ascends to the bigs or sucks and moves to the pen
  19. Sox going after LaRoche. Rumor is the sox are planning on pulling out of a deal with Napoli if they can replace him. I hope this happens, and the Yankees pounce on Napoli on a 1 yr deal
  20. If Keith Law thinks he's an ace, then he'll likely never surface in the bigs again. That guy's endorsement is the kiss of death. De la Rosa looks like a closer to me. Webster looks like the middle of the rotation innings eater in this swap
  21. 5 of his 33 HR were outside of pull range. Based on that chart, 11 of his HRs would have been in play and 3 more flyballs to LF would have been HRs.
  22. CJ came up as a reliever. Morales came up as a starter, had some transient success then fell apart. He's found his niche in the pen.
  23. LaRoche is a dead pull hitter
  24. Right now, you may be right. But it isnt like Morales hasnt gotten his shot. Morales was good enough to start in the playoffs for a Rockies team that went to the World Series. The guy just had a mental meltdown and lost his command. Sometimes you need to just leave well enough alone. Morales has become a reliable left handed reliever. Messing with a guy who has fallen apart in the rotation in the past is a habit of sox GMs and fans alike and it almost always ends in disaster
  25. RS3, if those players finish 27 games over .500 you will win 95 games
