  1. I would be all for an actual rebuild with a major deal involving Robby before the season, but NYY fans will never tolerate it.
  2. 1yr $4 mil with incentives
  3. Sounds like an inroads to the Dominican even further
  4. Lackey replaces DiceK, Dempster replaces Beckett. Lateral moves for the most part, possibly some minus moves depending on how they adjust from injury/new league. I thought Dempster was a good signing, but I said from day 1, the sox needed to add 2, 200IP starters. They got one. Marcum, if healthy, was the other. If you get innings from your starters are quality production, then your improved pen could stay lockdown and you'll see a rise in the standings. If Lackey shits the bed, Dempster retracts into his shell, Doubront gets hurt due to his IP rise, Buch takes his yearly sabbatical to the DL or Lester continues his mediocrity then your pen gets torched. When one of the above misses a lot of time, your #6 option is a rookie or a retread that will mutilate your pen further. There was a reason why the sox pen in 2004 was so good, even though the only real name out there was Foulke. Because your starters regularly gave 6-7IP and your pen was rested.
  5. I disagree. Your pen is rounding into form. Your offense will take a step back, but will still be top 10 in the game. Your starting rotation was the death of your team last yr. Marcum showed he was healthy at yrs end, and he has a history of durability and success in the AL East. He'd have been a contender for the #5 spot and likely would have moved Lackey to the swing role. Counting on John Lackey to be your lynchpin in the rotation will likely lead to total disaster. Right now, the rotation involves... 1. Lester- fell apart last yr, needs to rebound 2. Buchholz- started poorly, lost time due to illness, finished strong 3. Dempster- dominated the NL Central, got tits lit in ALW, now who knows in ALE? 4. Doubront- up and down rookie yr with flashes of dominance. Can he take next step? 5. Lackey- worst pitcher in red sox history then got TJS. What are you expecting here? Those are 5 wild cards. Who's the #6 you will inevitably need? Marcum would have at least tempered the situation and allowed you to go in with 3 guys fighting for 2 spots and also given you some depth when the inevitable happens.
  6. Prado and Delgado are big gets for Upton. I am not familiar with the other names just yet, but Spruill was their #9 prospect per BA. The other two werent listed.
  7. Marcum signs with the mets for 1 yr. I don't get why the sox weren't in on this one. Pillow contracts to rebuild value are their MO.
  8. I see. I didn't see your jones reference
  9. How does Kalish factor in? I was talking about a lefty 1B
  10. It doesnt make sense. You get a lefty platoon mate for a righty power hitter who you just signed to a high value contract provided he gets to the PAs.
  11. Pineda was on the list last yr and he was right
  12. Olney specified the '61 Yankees. Mantle hit .317 with 54HRs, an OPS of 1.135 and 12SB with a WAR of 10.2 Maris hit 61HRs, had a near 1.000OPS and a WAR of 6.7 Berra hit 22HR, had a near .800OPS and a WAR of 2.0 Even if Trout and Hamilton go off and Trumbo continues to hammer the ball, I highly doubt they reach 18.7WAR between them. They all had amazing yrs last yr and they only totalled a WAR of 16.3
  13. He says he wants to be a Mariner for life and they hold the next 2 yrs on him regardless at $39 mil. That would give him 6 yrs and $139 mil to go on his deal. That's about as good as you can expect. And if he blows out his arm in the next 2 yrs, he is still guaranteed to have the highest AAV among pitchers as of right now. He's got a lot of innings on a young arm and his velo has dropped a bit.
  14. Now that I see the diagnosis, I completely agree with the decision by the sox. The head of the femur, otherwise known in laymen's terms as the hip has a pretty tenuous blood supply. When that blood supply is disrupted (like with a dislocation or fracture, think Bo Jackson) then the head of the femur dies. That is called avascular necrosis. There are other causes, notably in kids with Legg-Calve-Perthes disease, arterial embolism, repetitive trauma, and then the idiopathic, the medical term for we dont know. Sounds like Napoli is in that category (although steroid use is linked to it as well, food for thought). What it means is that the head of his hip is all ratty and brittle. Depending on how much of the head of the femur is involved will determine how debilitated he will be, but to get the diagnosis, you need a fair amount of the hip to show an abnormality. Once pain ensues, there is no real treatment aside from hip replacement, hence the "ticking time bomb" that has been leaked out there. Brett Favre played an entire career with it. Bo Jackson needed a hip replacement which ended his career. That's the spectrum you're looking at.
  15. Seattle is rumored to be preparing a 4yr $100 mil extension for him, making him the highest paid pitcher by AAV in history
  16. 1. Ellsbury 2. Pedroia 3. Ortiz 4. Napoli 5. Middlebrooks 6. Victorino 7. Gomes/Kalish 8. Saltalamacchia 9. Drew Lineups aren't that important except that the higher you are in the lineup, the more ABs you'll get over the course of the yr.
  17. Soooooo.... He took a 1yr $5mil deal after accepting a 3 yr $39 mil contract? His hip must be horrendous
  18. This is really strange. His side of the story is that she was an internet girlfriend whom he had never met. Either he's gullible (he is a Mormon afterall), complicit, or a complete moron.
  19. I havent been this excited for a draft in awhile.
  20. Cue the second draft pick to the Yankees. Makes me happy. Soriano wouldnt be that big of an upgrade on our team since he'd be relegated to the 7th inning if Mo is healthy. But his departure clears $13 mil in salary and gets us a $1.3 mil pick in the draft with which to play with
  21. It's really hard to overpay your top pick though. A lot of the overpaying will come with guys lower down because you underpaid your top guy. Also, Bryant is getting some looks as the top guy in the draft alongside Appel now. He might not be available, but big frames with massive power and a plus hit skill are not standard. This kid could very well be your anchor at 1b for yrs to come
  22. It's going to be interesting. The sox really have one pick to make that could entirely change the direction of their future while the Yankees have multiple picks with which to try not to f*** up. The question becomes, do the sox overdraft at slot 1 with a guy they know would take something like $1 mil and then re-allocate the other $2 million to players later in the draft?
  23. If the Yankees were to get Upton, we'd have to move Cano. Both he and Granderson are on one yr deals and Grandy won't generate as much buzz as Cano would on a 1 yr deal. That being said, I'm happy with Robby as is and the pick plus the money in the draft would be worth more than Granderson would be in a trade. I have a legitimate feeling that 2013 is the final yr of the Yankee dynasty with a major team disintegration coming afterwards. I have a feeling we'll punt 2014 while developing some talent from within at the big league level and then either dealing a lot of it away or going hard on the FA market after 2014.
  24. I don't see that working for the DBacks. Towers may love Nova, but they'd have to get one player with all star level talent, and though the package will probably net him 4 players who play a significant role on the big club, he won't get market value for a young, MVP caliber player who is under contract for 3-4 more yrs.
