  1. I see Hosmer as that kind of disaster. At least Crawford could fake it in CF and play good D in LF. Pablo was signed as a 3b. Hosmer is a poor glove 1b whose offensive numbers seem entirely dependent on an unsustainably high BABIP. He doesn't hit for enough power to have one major tool propel himself beyond his peers at a position known for power. Here's an interesting stat for you. Hosmer's career BABIP is a very lucky .315. But he has proven he can be better than what is expected on the whole, and some players are capable of doing that. But when you break down his season by season BABIP's, theres a striking problem. In the 3 seasons where his WAR was 3+, his BABIPs were .351, .336, and .335. In the 3 seasons of 0 or sub zero WAR, his BABIPs were .255, .312, and .301. What it comes down to is, when Hosmer can keep his BABIP high, he has a good season. When he cannot, he doesn't. That is usually the same for ALL players. There are few players who can keep their BABIPs high, and those guys usually have insane barrel rates.
  2. If Jay Bruce got 3 and 39, Duda will be lucky to get a Moreland deal. Big power guys without an OF or non 1b position have been marginalized of late. There are also no shortage of them. I expect the sox to find one more bat. If it isn’t JD, they’ll go LoMo or Duda and move on. They cannot go into this year with the same offense. Status quo will get you bounced from the playoffs early
  3. I don't believe you can deal signed FA's until June
  4. interesting coming from a guy who never won an MVP.
  5. Exactly. Peter O’Brien has light tower power, but couldn’t walk and couldn’t make enough contact. Once he got to the bigs, his issues magnified
  6. Chavis hadn’t shown the power he showed last year. Can he repeat it? Can he make more contact? Can he reach base at a decent clip? His AA numbers weren’t world beating, so the idea that he’d skip AAA while he’s clearly not a finished product and moving him to a more difficult position that he’s not prepared for sounds like a bad combination. Chavis is one .750 OPS season away from being an afterthought
  7. We actually do have a ton of high velocity talent. From relievers Feyereisen, Gallegos, Coshow and Holder to starters like Sheffield, Adams, Cessa, German, and Acevedo, we have a ridiculous amount of pitching talent and it all throws hard. We can replace KRob, maybe not completely, but we might sacrifice 0.3 WAR in doing so, which isn’t all that huge. Add in a likely return to prominence of Betances and bigger roles for Warren and Green and we should be able to alter the pecking order. We would also be able to get good prospects for Robertson
  8. He is. If we can get Betances back on track, though, which I think is eminently possible, it’s a redundancy that we don’t need. It’s a nice to have. Look at our pen currently. Chapman Betances Kahnle Green Warren Robertson Shreve And behind them we have a cavalcade of relievers with high 90s heat and a stable of starters in the minors that we could break into the bigs as relievers later in the year. If we sign Darvish for $19-$20 mil a season and we need to shed salary, then KRob has to be on the table. Clearly Ellsbury is dump #1, but if we don’t get the chance to do that, I’d look at KRob. And KRob could bring back something significant in a trade
  9. Not never. But unlikely to be this year. The sox graduated 2 top 20 prospects in consecutive seasons. They don’t have a top 20 this year
  10. Beni and a Devers were the last in a line of top prospects that were MLb ready
  11. That’s a low offer for him. My assumption is any higher offers are coming from teams not as well equipped for a 2018 title run.
  12. The Stros maxed Appel’s value by dealing him for Giles
  13. It’s either a stat revolution or collusion. I’d assume a bit of both
  14. I deal Robertson. Our pen is loaded and spending $14 mil on a 34 yr old setup man seems redundant
  15. You have to do it the right way and ensure you deal for maximum return. You also need to take the best talent available when you get high draft picks. For years, the pirates had gotten high picks and they’d use them on garbage. I still remember Bullington going #1 and he wasn’t even a top 10 consensus guy. This was before the draft slotting, so the strategy made no sense.
  16. I wouldn’t deal Frazier for Salazar, that’s about it. Salazar is not a pre arb player yet he’s got the worth of one for now. Insane ceiling, but can’t stay healthy and can’t find the plate
  17. It’s 20/15. And if I remember correctly, I think he was 20/10
  18. If this is the case, then our rotation would be further bolstered. A rotation of Severino Darvish Tanaka Gray Sabathia/Montgomery That’d be dynamite
  19. Unless you’re a team that spends like a large market club yet has small market revenues
  20. That may be the case for some, but the money is still flowing in like water from the middle and upper classes
  21. I doubt you are right. As long as the economy booms, the teams will make a killing. Heck, teams made a killing even during the 08 recession. Also, it isn't good for a business for the profits to stagnate while the employees eat all the profits. That stifles innovation
  22. Sounds like the Yankees are negotiating with Darvish. They feel they can get him under $100 mil guaranteed for a 5 year deal. If they can do it, then go for it. If that is the case, I deal off Ellsbury if I can and if not, I deal off Robertson for something of value.
  23. Rosenthal notes that the Pirates wanted Frazier as the centerpiece if they couldn’t have Torres but the hangup was on the other pieces. Frazier is a better get than anything the Pirates got for Cole. The interesting thing about PIT is that they are similar to the A’s. Their requests for their premium players are usually outside the box of big prospects and usually they deal for safe assets over High potential
  24. You’re so misguided and so one note. The Pirates wanted Frazier and Andujar or Torres plus a pitcher. The Yankees offered Frazier plus a pitcher. Torres and Andujar are starters for us right now. I cannot wait to see Frazier show you how misguided you are. Did the kid bang your sister or something? To be honest with you, I think the Yanks are keen on keeping Frazier now. Gardner is in the final guaranteed year of his deal and at an option value of $14 mil as a 35/36 yr old in 2019, he’s likely not worth it. Frazier will be our insurance policy if Gardy falls off or if we don’t land Harper. In the end, this is a head scratcher. Musgrove was dominant as a reliever for Houston as he saw a major velocity bump in short spurts, but as a starter, his stuff wasn’t special. He’s a back end starter. Moran is probably their best get, but he’s an older prospect who finally had a good minor league season as a 25 yr old. Feliz has a big arm, but he hasn’t proven to be reliable yet. Martin had a good 2017, but he’s not well regarded as of yet because he hasn’t proven much beyond A ball. They dealt Cole for quantity, not quality
  25. Notin, Come doesn’t have a 10 yr contract attached
