  1. Bogaerts has been good. Betts seems to alternate MVP years with really good years. JD has been really good, just not ridiculous like he has been. The problem for the sox offense is that the top of the order isn't in another stratosphere, hence the glaring holes at the bottom of the order are more pronounced. It is far easier to overlook 7-9 when you have two guys over 1.000 and everyone else over .800 in the top 6.
  2. Bird cannot stay healthy. He is gonna be dealt at the deadline, probably for IFA money. Someone will take the chance and try to coax his immense power out of him. The IFA money won't be missed by most clubs
  3. This is what Britton does. He alternates a K and BB/GB hit in the first 2 ABs then gets a DP
  4. Not a prayer. He is going to be our 1b until he is a FA.
  5. He may, but since he was a AAAA guy for awhile, we control him until he will be 34. You probably wont want him then
  6. Stanton has literally done nothing in his career to hate. I thought you would say Voit
  7. Happ 1st time through- .245/.304/.511 Happ 2nd time through- .231/.278/.429 Happ 3rd time through- .366/.395/.610 The first inning numbers are skewed by 6 HR's, but over time the first and second time through will be the same. The third time through is pretty consistently bad. Last year, the first two times through were within 16 points in OPS and jumped 100 points third time through.
  8. There is no need to do so. He just held an elite offense to 4 runs through 6 with literally no fastball command. He is also second in the AL in K's. He is not an issue. He just needs to embrace father time a little better and focus on command vs stuff
  9. DJ Lemahieu reminds me so much of Jeter in terms of swing.
  10. Happ is what he is. He's an excellent 5 inning pitcher. He and CC are essentially the same with Happ more durable
  11. Maybin is actually pretty likely to stick around for us. He is an elite defender who offers speed off the bench. As good as Frazier has been, he has been an adventure in RF and when our OF returns to full strength, Frazier would be best served to spend time in AAA to get more ABs. Frazier is very likely to be our starting LFer for 2020
  12. Exactly. Sale needs to focus on locating #1. If he needs to sacrifice command for velocity, then go with the slower heater. Before his shoulder issue, he could get to two strikes and the hitter had to guess. Either 98 up or wipeout slider. Now, it's 94 up or wipeout slider. 94 they can drive or foul off. That velocity difference is enormous. 91 or 94 doesn't really matter. 94 or 98 does. If he doesn't have the high 90s heat when he needs it, he needs to command the low 90s stuff and forget the higher heat if he loses command. A funky pitcher locating 91 and throwing a wipeout slider will be far harder to hit than a guy missing with 94 and throwing a wipeout slider. I would also force Sale to use the changeup more, even if it is just a show me pitch
  13. This is likely his last hurrah. He will be DFA'd when Didi, Judge or Stanton return
  14. So imagine this yankee lineup when we remove Maybin and Morales and add in Stanton and Judge
  15. remember when he snapped his tibia jumping on home plate?
  16. I am shocked that Sale is still out there. Here is what I saw with Sale. He K'd the side showing his slider in the first inning. His changeup has been essentially non existent. His FB he is still not locating well and his velocity is inconsistent. He's tossing 95 and then sitting 92-93. Moreover, he is leaving too many pitches in the middle. His slider is a wipeout pitch, but once we saw it through 2 innings, we could foul it off or lay off it. Most ace pitchers don't show all their stuff early, but with Sale not having great command and lacking the top end velocity pitch to pitch, he is throwing all of his pitches from the getgo. If he cannot locate his heater, he isn't going to beat the good teams.
  17. Lemahieu has been absolutely what the doctor ordered. Our biggest issue offensively coming into the offseason was the fact that we didn't make enough contact. Ace pitchers who could limit the long ball could own us. Now, we have some guys like Estrada, Lemahieu and Urshela who make a ton of contact. This helps a lot when you have bombers who walk a bunch and get on base, then the contact guys who can drive people in by putting the ball in play.
  18. About that Machado guy....
  19. He's a professional nibbler. You aren't gonna get a meatball unless he makes a mistake. You're gonna have to hit a pitcher's pitch
  20. Happ is gonna have to get through Leon and Betts (or more) to get through 5. No way I send him back out for the 6th facing the heart of the order.
  21. Also, note to Boone. Happ should be a 5 and screw kind of guy today. His last start was nearly perfect through 5 then he gave up 3 in the 6th. The pen is rested. No need to tempt fate. Happ for 5. Ottavino-Kahnle-Britton-Chap for the win
