  1. This is not really true. Players wouldn’t be coming out against this if every team did it. They’d be shooting them selves in the foot if their current club did it too
  2. It was still illegal. It was still cheating. And the Sox were the source case (with the Yanks) that caused MLB to warn all clubs. If anyone knew above Cora, then they’re done. The GM position doesn’t apply with DD gone, but if precedent shows anything, DD’s gonna be hit with a “show cause” penalty like Taubman was. Likelihood is DD will retire from baseball entirely.
  3. Let’s be honest, Cora is done for 2020. Hinch got a year even though he wasn’t the architect and didn’t “condone” it. Cora was the architect for both teams. Cora’s punishment will be the most severe. The only question is, how hard will the Red Sox organization be hit. Will they be hit harder since they were involved in the initial event that caused MLB to investigate both the Sox and the Yanks? Will they be hit less as the information wasn’t as relevant since it was only with runners on 2nd?
  4. Zach Cozart has been injured for two years and is coming off shoulder surgery
  5. Love you too buddy. Hey, this is the best rivalry in sports for a reason. We’re gonna piss each other off at times. That’s the point. I’ll call out my brethren who show up on here and are literally just wasting space.
  6. Because the commish works for the owners and I’m sure Henry can at least direct things so the manager cannot get cash from the Sox. Punishing Cora in this way punishes the man more than the team
  7. It’s the only way to allow the Sox to move on without financial retribution. Bloom probably wants his own manager anyway. My bet is Henry pushes the issue with Manfred to save him some $$$
  8. I don’t “want this to happen” as it pertains to Cora. I don’t care who the manager is, but I do want draft picks to go. That’ll be a win for me
  9. Makes no sense to fire now. Firing him now will leave the Sox on the hook for his salary. If he’s suspended or banned, then the Sox don’t need to pay anyone
  10. Your farm is f***ed without picks. This penalty is gonna hurt
  11. Bloom is gonna get to choose his own manager. This is what I am predicting. They’re gonna hit the Sox with the same draft pick penalties and fines. They’ll hit Cora with a “lifetime ban” with the ability to apply for reinstatement in a year. This will force the Sox to hire a new manager and Cora’s contract will void. Cora gets to come back to the MLB for 2021 in some capacity after reinstatement and part of his reinstatement deal will be that he doesn’t seek any contractual retribution against the Sox.
  12. Manager and GM out for a year. 1st and 2nd rounders gone for two seasons. Holy f***, what a punishment. The Sox are up next
  13. If Trevor Lawrence died his hair black, he could double as Kylo Ren
  14. I thought he’d be a good enough enticement to get the Brewers to absorb a little more money, that’s all. But there was an article about this move that made a ton of sense. Tarpley allowed a .168 BA to lefties but got destroyed by righties. With the new 3 batter rule going in, guys like Tarpley are going to become obsolete
  15. Chatham ain’t much to write home about. He just turned 25, doesn’t walk and doesn’t hit for power. He also doesn’t steal a ton of bases. He’s a Ronald Torreyes when he was in NY. An empty BA guy. They can be useful if they can keep the BA up and if the D is solid to plus
  16. I thought someone would take a flier on him. Good velo for a lefty, big slider, reasonable command in the minors. His issue was he s*** his pants in the majors
  17. Well, they announced Gardy and Tarpley has been DFAd
  18. That’s a puff piece again. Betts HAD to talk about his arb price. That’s how it works. He couldn’t tuck tail and run with Boston having a year of control. What this confirms to me, is that Betts is heading to market. He’s gone one year at a time for every year. He’s now guaranteed to have made $57 mil through his 3 arbitration seasons. That’s a life altering amount of money, one that I’m sure he could walk away after 2020 and be set for life. Hence, his downside for holding firm and hitting the market is low. His upside could be huge. Maybe he hits the market and comes right back to Boston. Maybe he doesn’t want to be in Boston and hopes for a higher bidder elsewhere. Not a soul knows. All we have heard is that Betts wants to go to the open market and that he has said he likes it in Boston. That’s about it. There’ve been rumors he wants more than Trout. He’s never made that comment publicly. Maybe he wants a higher AAV than Trout? That’s possible. But he’s not getting 12 years
  19. We are getting lost in the weeds here. Houston’s punishment is coming soon. Once it comes down, you’ll see if the MLB is punishing the org vs the personnel. If it’s Hinch and Luhnow getting punished but the draft capital and IFA spending budgets left intact, then that would bode well for Boston.
  20. Judge is $1.8 mil over. Sanchez $0.6 mil under.
  21. Brice throws reasonably hard (93-94) and relies on almost a 1-1 fastball- slider combination. He was a throwaway who out pitched his peripherals. He’s worth a shot. This is just the kind of move Bloom has made in the past that’s worked out. It cost almost nothing
  22. You're just a Jeter hater. The guy won 5 rings. He went to the POs 17 times. He amassed 3,465 hits. His triple slash was .310/.377/.440 over 12,602 PAs. His post season line was pretty similar, cementing himself as a great post season player. He's an auto-in. But he won't be unanimous. Not because he shouldn't be, but because the HOF inductees get a vote and he did them dirty in Florida when he took over the Marlins. He'll be a 98%er
  23. Jeter was also one of the GOAT SS's who had 4 rings when ARod showed up. ARod offered to move to 3b Didn't Ortiz? Didn't Manny? Every player tries to hold their team's by the balls to get more money. Welcome to baseball economics 101. I think you are missing something here. Jeter was a hell of an offensive force, even to the end. He had a slash line of .316/.362/.429 in 2012 when the Yanks went to the ALCS. He broke his ankle that post season and missed nearly the entire following season due to complications. His final contract was a last hurrah season, but it also was one where there was optimism that he could still be an offensive force. His last healthy season's slash line was pretty solid and he was going to do it one more time. He didn't end up being any good, but asking for and getting what he got for a last hurrah of an all time great player is economics. Unless you're a socialist pig? They missed the POs in 2013 without him. I doubt he "forced" anyone to wear a patch. My bet is the Yankees front office realized they weren't going to the POs in 2014 and "forced" everyone to wear it
