  1. I wouldnt commit to Hinske, we have some better and more versatile options available in house. If you're looking for a left handed power hitter, you have Miranda rotting away. We could improve on our RHH options, but Hoffman will at least get a shot in ST. We have a solid backup catcher in Cervelli. We have a few utility types, one with the better bat (Kevin Russo) and the other with the slick glove (Ramiro Pena). Gardner projects to be the 4th OFer on the team for defense and speed purposes. I dont see a need to fill that spot. We have other needs. I would sign a guy like Duchsherer who could both start and relieve or Capps, who could slide into the setup role vacated by Hughes
  2. We arent going to get Holliday, plain and simple. Our offense has the potential to be every bit as good as last yr and we were the best in the game, so no point in adding to it.
  3. Thing is, those long fly balls would be outs anywhere else, and turn into homers. Whereas the line drives off the wall are still hits. Hence, more total bases are generated, even if the numbers are totally even
  4. Gom is lurking, I can feel his evil presence
  5. Imagine an OF with Granderson and Crawford in it. Talk about a crew that can go get it.
  6. Beltre has options. Apparently the Giants, A's, and Mariners are still interested in him. Theo could blow them all away if he wants too, but I have a feeling he doesnt. He's gonna want him for under $10 mil per yr, likely under $8mil. But he isnt desperate like some of the teams I mentioned
  7. Atkins signed with Baltimore yesterday
  8. he's a mod on another forum I frequent, I just got them mixed up
  9. I meant yeszir, my bad.
  10. and they filled their team with guys who are more athletic and potentially a better fit all around.
  11. I have a feeling Tex is about to lay the smackdown. Or at least have another scathing post to calm down the masses.
  12. and he continues to forget that Matsui and Damon both have battled injuries. He also refuses to see that adding 2 young lefty hitters in our park could turn out better than bringing back the older guys. Oh, and he doesnt see the use for a guy with a .426OBP hitting in the 2 hole, a whole 50 points higher than Damon on a far inferior club. Also, he doesnt see the likelihood that two talented players could rebound from their less than standard 2009, even though both were pretty damn good. Regardless, Gom was like this when Swisher was acquired as well. Then, he thought it was a great deal.
  13. Depends on what happens in Yankee land. If Montero shows he's useless behind the dish and Romine doesnt step up in 2010, then I expect the Yanks to be in on it. And if NY is in on it, you better believe the dollars will exceed that.
  14. Dojji, turn off MLB 09 the Show and join reality.
  15. LaRoche isnt coming to Boston. The Sox dealt him for Kotchmann for a reason. They value his defense and his ability to make contact over LaRoche's power capability. Beltre would be an interesting player. He was absolutely terrible last season, so park effect or not, he really, really sucked. Now, one of his balls got smashed, so mulligans are possible when you become a uni-ball. With the move to Fenway, and surrounded by good hitters, he probably cracks the .800OPS mark. That being said, he needs to make a massive improvement over last season to approach that. Also, the sox will likely crack the luxury tax with a Beltre signing, so that might not be in the cards.
  16. Thats a sound argument.
  17. Per Olney, the Yankees are moving on from Damon, but arent close to being finished. They are still looking at Mark DeRosa, if the price is right and are still looking to add one starting pitcher. Feinsand says that the Yankees passed on Matsui over concern for his knees. They know him best, and if that decision was a medical one, then it was the right move
  18. Also, I compare Johnson to Damon and Granderson to Matsui since Johnson is tailor made for the 2 hole. I think Granderson gets placed in an RBI spot in the lineup.
  19. According to Sweeni Murti, the Yankees have informed Johnny Damon that negotiations are over and he will not be with the 2010 ballclub That 4 yr deal he signed with NYY was worth every penny, but now he is just not getting with the times. He is overvaluing himself in a yr of recession. Thanks for being a catalyst for #27 and for grinding it out with nagging injuries almost the whole way. Our caveman mercenary, I wish him nothing but the best, and no hard feelings for playing hardball. But he and Boras got burned on this one.
  20. I remember when he was lights out with Johan and the scouting reports were telling hitters that he was throwing something like 50-60% sliders. That is incompatible with health for a pitcher.
  21. Also, does OPS+ take into account the park effect for a lefty? Cause Yankee Stadium is brutal for a RHH, but is essentially a little league field for a lefty
  22. The question is, can Granderson regain his solid OPS of 2007-2008 in Yankee Stadium while also experiencing the park effect. Remember, in 2007, Granderson had a .913OPS and in 2008 he had a .858OPS in Tiger's Stadium. If he regains that form while also seeing an effect from the Stadium, he could surpass Matsui's 2009 production. Johnson also underperformed compared to his history. He had an 18 point drop in OPS, although he had a massive improvement (.890 with FLA) when he was inserted into a team with an outside chance of reaching the playoffs. Lets say Johnson performs up to his .850 career average and then experiences the park effect. He would mirror or surpass Damon's 2009 production
  23. I think the Twins should move Nathan and convert Liriano to the bullpen. I bet he'd be lights out in short stints, especially since he hasnt stayed healthy since his TJ
