  1. Lackey hasnt reached 200 innings since 2007, but I would consider him pretty durable.
  2. it's impossible to say. Prior to 2008, he was an injury machine. But almost all of them stemmed from his elbow. He had TJ, then had scar tissue issues. Since those seemed to pass, he's been healthy as a horse.
  3. How many times had he gone 2 seasons in a row without getting hurt. Maybe, just maybe, he's turned the corner.
  4. He's reached 200IP for 2 yrs in a row and 3 of the last 5 seasons.
  5. His career peripherals between NL and AL. Not his 2009 numbers. Those were significant outliers.
  6. 4 guys in the rotation have gotten in the 190+ IP range for 2 seasons in a row. How durable is Boston's rotation again?
  7. If you can read, I said that Dunn and Melancon wouldnt be on the list since they made their debuts. And I like some performance instead of all hype. Heathcott hardly played
  8. actually, diony did
  9. I am not doubting that Joseph needs some work defensively. He's better than he's being portrayed, but he isnt a defensive whiz by any means. But saying that a 20 yr old who mashed long season in his first professional yr has a low ceiling is just incorrect.
  10. you truly dont know much at all about our system
  11. can you make another inference? Please?
  12. check the link Dipre. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=4235 It cuts off his first few seasons, but gives you an idea where he has been recently
  13. this was my quote on the ceiling of Joseph Also, you continue to say "this is fact" in areas where that is not fact at all. Actually, anyone who knows anything about development knows that stats tell only a fraction of the story. A player could be working on something for a short time, they could be getting used to new mechanics, etc. You need to take in the whole picture.
  14. It was different for Wang since he was an extreme groundball pitcher. Extreme GB pitchers will give up more hits, strike out less batters, yet keep their ERA's a bit better. Garland isnt, he's a guy with a career GO/AO less than 1(actually in the 0.8 range). So, a flyball pitcher who doesnt K people and gives up a lot of hits is not a good play for NY.
  15. Dipre, stats really only tell you a small part of the story on a minor league kid and the advanced stats are nice, but you need to put them into context. I never understood the Utley comps, since I think Utley has prime power for the position. But Joseph has gap power that really started showing up late in the season. If it progressed, he's a double digit homer threat
  16. Lowell is gonna get dealt. The Sox have already tried to assassinate his character by claiming his injury went unreported and that it was a surprise. Good for Lowell, saying that he definitely reported it and sticking up for himself.
  17. Those homeless people won a world series last yr, last I checked. And, they added more vagrant talent.
  18. Take a look at the numbers for Vazquez in the NL and AL. His WHIP is .02 points higher in the AL. His H/9 is identical and his K/9 is identical, but his ERA is nearly a half a run per 9IP higher. I dunno, with those peripherals, I expect some big things here
  19. More durable rotation? With Buchholz and Matsuzaka in the rotation? Just for shits and giggles, here are the composite numbers from 2009... Yankee rotation: 70-41 162GS 1008IP 931H 422ER 360BB 911K 3.77ERA 1.28WHIP 8.1K/9IP 2.5K/BB Boston rotation: 54-32 119GS 743.1IP 733H 324ER 232BB 685K 3.92ERA 1.30WHIP 8.3K/9IP 2.9K/BB Similar WHIP, yankees better in ERA, sox a smidge better in K/9IP and better in K/BB. But the Yankee rotation made 162 starts last yr and threw 250+ more innings. With NY's lineup and now with a pen either boasting Hughes or Joba in that setup role, this rotation is better suited for their team and is deeper. When your only question mark is your #5 hole, things are going well. Plus, with Vazquez added, we have 4 pitchers who routinely throw mid 90s and 3 guys capable of ringing up 200 guys in a season (maybe 4 by the time Joba rules are out). Now, I understand there will be a regression for Vazquez since he's coming to the AL East, but a full season out of DiceK or Buchholz will move some of those numbers northward for Boston too. But if those guys put in a full season, the sox will be happy. That's the biggest question. Can DiceK and Buchholz give them 32 starts in a season. That is something that is yet to be determined.
  20. find me a deeper, more durable, more effective rotation
  21. It might be higher this yr depending on what they do for LF. Regardless, they won a title last yr, it was worth it. I bet the extra playoff, merchandising and network income made it all worthwhile. And if they win it again, then I expect there to be more money coming their way with the dynasty talk creeping back into play
  22. And even better....We get Granderson and we get Vazquez via trade without giving up our best position prospect (Montero), our best young MLB talent (Chamberlain or Hughes) or our best pitching prospect (Banuelos) in the minors.
  23. BTW, this deal gives us the best rotation in the AL IMO. 4 guys who should reasonably give 200IP with one giving an ace performance, two giving a #2 type performance, and Pettitte slotting back in the #3 range. The more I think about it, the more I like this deal and cannot wait for the season to start. Its hard to say that we arent the odds on favorites for 2010
