My oh my, how our standards have decreased. This is a terrible move for the Red Sox. Atrocious. Gonzalez is not a good defensive SS anymore. He had s***** range in 2006. He's had knee and elbow injuries since then. f***ing awful, indefensible move. I'd rather call Navarro up.

While I don't disagree with a lot of what a700 says, counting the arbitrary number of megastars on a team is no way to measure success of the roster construction. Give me a talented team that works well together. Of course, talent ultimately wins over chemistry, and the FO settled on a lot of lottery tickets this past offseason whereas the Yanks grabbed the sure things. That's the difference.

Going to the oppressive 100 degree heat will not be ean easy task for the Sox, and due to the difference in schedules from here on out between the two teams it's pretty vital for the Sox to take 2/3. I like the Lester/Millwood matchup and hopefully Penny or Tazawa can steal another. Yankees go to Seattle for four and amazingly miss King Felix. Even with Mitre and Gaudin pitching, anything less than 3/4 is a colossal disappointment. Rays, clinging for dear life, open a series at the Trop against Roy Halladay.

Nobody should be concerned about the .5 game lead in the Wild Card, apparently Tito thinks he has it in the bag if he's willing to punt games like these. Nick Green and Chris Woodward in the same lineup for a $100 million plus payroll. What a joke. Nice outing from Buchholz, need to see more strikeouts but I'm liking the amount of groundballs he's been getting. If we give credit to Varitek, we need to give credit to Martinez for catching Buchholz's two best outings of the season.

Dojji, what happened to Ortiz being a good bet to be productive this season when healthy and throughout the remainder of his contract? pretty sure you advocated giving him a contract extension as well. Ortiz's performance (4 for his last 41) just continues to rub salt in the wound of the huge failure of the offseason from the front office. Theo's biggest challenge over the next few years is going to be finding power bats to replace the production of the older players in this lineup. One signing could have taken care of the long term and the short term over the next decade.

Couldn't have used Youkilis against Verlander, right? Although it was pretty clear Tito punted this one from the get go. And for those saying Varitek's punch of ARod was the turning point to the 2004 season, please remember they went 5-5 after that game and didn't start to pull away until their starting rotation went on a tear in mid-August and their defense stopped sucking ass.
