  1. Ideally, no. But there are scenarios where it would be acceptable. The offense needs to improve elsewhere, but if that's done the team could live with the "dropoff" in production from Kotchman.
  2. So, White Sox troll? He's under contract through 2011. I'll bet you $20 he's on the team next season in some capacity, barring a trade.
  3. They both suck, I just think it's funny people still think Gonzalez is a competent defensive SS.
  4. I'm confused, he's really onle been getting regular playing time for a week. He's not a bad player, he can be a very useful player for this team going forward. Dude's a GG caliber 1B, and he's capable of putting up an .800 OPS. While it's not the traditional method of lineup construction a team can succeed with a guy like Kotchman manning 1B (Angels when he was there, John Olerud in TOR, etc.)
  5. You're not getting a "big power bat" through waivers. The Sox for this season have to hope Bay and Ortiz come around and that Lowell's hip holds up.
  6. Kotchman isn't an auto out.
  7. Scuatro's career numbers before this season: .261/.325/.377/.702 I'd take a .702 OPS out of my starting shortsop any day, and he wouldn't embarrass himself in the field a la Lugo. I could easily see Scutaro coming here on a two year deal while they hope Iglesias or Navarro pan out. SS is like the 8th most important issue for this team in the offseason, anyway.
  8. In that scenario, Youkilis would play 3rd. At least Kotchman would be able to play 140 games and not have his hips held together by Double Bubble and Duct Tape.
  9. Pretty mediocre today
  10. I don't think having Kotchman as the everyday first baseman is such a bad thing, not a "ridiculous" idea many have said it was. Remember, a run saved counts just as much as a run earned.
  11. So, essentially, we're relying on a 42 year old who is limping around to come save our season. Fantastic.
  12. So what Yankee fan is this guy?
  13. Yep, Lowrie's wrist has screwed them over on two separate occasions, one for relying on him to start the season, and second for him hurting it again post-deadline.
  14. WATCH THE GAMEEZZZZZ
  15. He's not better than Nick Green, he's not better than Jed Lowrie, who by all accounts will be back in a few weeks. Anyone calling this an upgrade is fooling themselves, he sucked in 2006. He has a .258 OBP this season. Theo should be embarrassed. Anyone advocating Gonzalez over Peralta is a damned fool.
  16. How much time did the HR buy him?
  17. $100 million payroll and he is using Nick Green, Chris Woodward, and now Alex Gonzalez in crucial games in August. Embarrassing. Should have just kept Lugo.
  18. Tex just hit # 30
  19. Fun fact - the three shortstop options since Lowrie went down (Green, Woodward, Gonzalez) combined for exactly 0 major league games in 2008. Theo should be embarrassed.
  20. I thought the rule was he had to be on the 25-man roster or on the DL come September 1. Either way, he's eligible.
