  1. The contract is not the issue. The point is that Weaver will not outperform what Washburn did last year. That is what an upgrade would be. Washburn will eat it hard soon, because he doesn't strike anybody out, his walk rates are unremarkable, he had a G/F below 1.00, and his WHIP was 1.33. But Weaver won't be giving them 170something innings of 3.20era ball.
  2. He was a below-average pitcher last year. Byrd and Washburn were both above average. By quite a bit in Washburn's case.
  3. It was a joke. I didn't tell him to kill himself. I made fun of the fact that he sucks hardcore, and he's a the most media-whoring player I've ever seen.
  4. Good one.
  5. All of NE? What about Connecticut? Isn't that New England? If they want to do this in MA, then go ahead. Personally, I think using actual ML teams is pretty dumb.
  6. Sosa should be considering suicide.
  7. The physician's name? Doctor Professional.
  8. Revisionist history. I loathe Carl Pavano. More than I loathe Jaret Wright. Pavano makes like 70 mil a year to whine about mystery injuries and never pitch. Wright sucks, but at least he has a reason to be out, like getting hit in the face with a harpoon, or something. f*** Pavano.
  9. That is so clever. I've never heard that before.
  10. How is he an upgrade from Washburn? Weaver is garbage.
  11. I trust statistical evidence over the layman's ability to remember every defensive play by every fielder in baseball. Somehow, I think its more reliable. Its small, yes. But he still can't play it adequately. I think your uninformed opinion is without value. http://thesaurus.reference.com/search?q=superior My opinion is better than yours, while at the same time, also superior. Its a mystery.
  12. You don't get invited to many parties, do you?
  13. I just want to point out I wasn't talking about FP as a defensive metric, because it isn't one. Its a stupid piece of crap stat that is worth nothing. I use only metrics that actually measure how many balls a player is turning into outs versus hits. Even if they may or may not have been invented by a geek and/or his computer in an area that may look suspiciously similar to a basement.
  14. Of note: Johnny Damon is a huge tool.
  15. Yes, I am.
  16. His offensive numbers last year were pretty much right in line with his career numbers. He's never been a particularly good hitter. His inability to play better than replacement level defense came as a surprise.
  17. Most, if not all, defensive metrics have Matsui as a below-average fielder. Sheffield is a DH in RF. He shouldn't play more than 40 games in the field this year. He's still right. Lowell is overrated, but I did find one metric (BP's FRAA) that had him as a very good third baseman. Most others had him at about average. Gonzalez is not nearly as good as his reputation. A number of metrics have him clearly below average, and I can only find one that has him even a little above average. Lowell-Gonzalez is not the best defensive combination in MLB, by any stretch. For that matter, the idea that Coco Crisp is going to be a great CFer is based on nothing as well: his career in CF has been decidedly mediocre. He was an above-average left fielder, but he is not a centerfielder. Aren't "better" and "superior" the same thing?
  18. Bill Simmons did not invent that phrase. It just seems like he did, because along with "Why isn't this happening?" and "I should run a television network," its one of the the only three he knows.
  19. Am I that notorious?
  20. Man, I thought that one was pretty funny, too. What Tigers news that you received virtue of your Michigan residence indicates that Kyle Farnsworth is a clubhouse cancer? And EVERYBODY needs dickheads.
  21. Seanez also pitched his career high of 60.3 innings last year. He's never had even 60 appearances in a season. He's not durable enough to be a primary set-up man. I'm not ecstatic about Farnsworth, but he was a better option than anyone else that was still an option at that point.
  22. I was under the impression that the Tigers traded Farnsworth because he was valuable trade bait, and they were terrible, so a quality closer wasn't much good to them. Good thing I the inside dope that he's a clubhouse cancer from a guy who lives in the same state that houses the team he pitched for for a piece of last season. While we're on the subject, take it from me, someone who just moved out of Massachusetts: David Ortiz is a child molester. :harhar:
  23. I'm not talking about the Red Sox, dope. Man, you're slow.
  24. Holy crap! Learn to read! I was refuting the claim that he was guaranteed to dominate. I didn't say he won't make it in the majors. I said he's not a sure thing. And he isn't. And yes, he has potential. But would you rather have a potentially great relief pitcher or a potentially great position player? I'd definitely go for the second one. Especially since pitchers are so injury-prone.
