  1. did I say anything about question marks? No, my point that you are contexting is that Schilling is making excuses for his poor performance. Anyone want to rebut that point??
  2. Okay, 2006 is upon us, and let us look at the 2005 rankings of players at their positions for AVG/OBP/SLG/OPS C Varitek 3/3/1/1 out of 6 1B Youkilis 11/6/20/13 out of 22 (player did not qualify) 2B Loretta 13/7/17/17 out of 17 (player did not qualify) SS Gonzalez 17/15/17/15 out of 22(player did not qualify) 3B Lowell 20/19/20/20 out of 20 LF Ramirez 9/4/1/1 out of 20 CF Crisp 4/9/6/5 out of 20 RF Nixon 13/6/11/12 out of 22 DH Ortiz 2/2/1/2 out of 3 I know these sound ludicrous and why would I post this right? But I had no idea how bad Lowell actually was compared to the league. He was the worst 3b in the game last yr. Also, Loretta had an awful yr, he had a sub .700 OPS last yr, that is Tony Womack range. I was also surprised that youk help his own in the toughest position, nothing amazing, but middle of the pack for the most part. I just think the distinction between the top eschelon and the lower tier guys makes him look puny, but overall he is a middle of the pack 1b type. Also, any doubt that Ortiz and Manny would be near the top?
  3. Okay, I really like the above post. You addressed the fact that you are cautiously optimistic, which is fine. To be blatantly optimistic and ignoring the facts is stupid. Acknowledging the potential for failure and hoping for the best is a reasonable apporach...
  4. I actually said on the now dead BH forum...moment of silence......that Schilling will put up numbers similar to those that Clement put up last yr. 15 wins mid 4's era....
  5. HEY TALIESIN!!! your inbox is full for this forum, you gotta get rid of some stuff. Also, you joined the open league, which is not the keeper league. I sent you the specs in an email, sheck it out...
  6. that is a great way of making excuses for poor performances...
  7. so you will go by 3 starts??? 3 starts is such a small sample size. take a look at these sample of 3 starts going into the playoffs, can you guess who they are... 22.2IP 1ER 5K 5BB 11H 0.41ERA 21.2IP 8ER 11K 8BB 17H 3.31ERA 21.1IP 4ER 16K 5BB 12H 1.69ERA Maybe I should be expecting all 3 of these guys to be aces too (well one of them is our ace, just a hint)???
  8. This is going to be an awful ongoing topic for weeks to come. Here's the deal, the sox want too much for Manny and the Angels want something for nothing. Moreno needs to squeeze his nads and figure out that the amount of prospects that they have in AAA and AA will never all find a spot on the MLB roster, some will have to move. I think Brandon Wood's stock is so high right now that he should be on the chopping block before he proves that he is just another Rich Aurilia instead of an ARod. If I were Moreno, I would send Wood, Erstad, and Joe Saunders to the sox for Manny and make sure to take on the entire contract. Manny is one of the best hitters in the league and Moreno has one of the most putrid offenses, he has to make a move. BUT, Moreno will not move his rooks and hence he wont make a good deal. Like I said, he wants something for nothing, and that aint gonna happen....

  10. Well, I think most of the spots are easy. AL For the east, the yankee lineup, plus their pen and underrated staff will have them coast to victory in the AL East. The lineup will be strong enough to mash pathetic teams and the total package should have them play .500+ ball against the good teams, which is a good recipe for playoff clinching. The Jays will be enough of a disturbance to the red sox that they will not win the wild card, as I think the sox offense has taken a small step back andd will no longer be able to completely put teams away on a regular basis. Also, questions about the ace of the sox and their closer makes predicting them very hard. The relatively pathetic central will put 2 teams in and I seriously think that the Guardians will give the one yr wonder white sox a run for their money. Eventually, the white sox will win the wild card due to the relative putrid-ness of KC and detroit, but I think the Guardians will win the central. As for the west, the angels look worse this yr than last and the A's significantly improved. Also, seattle and texas should create enough interference to keep an ALW team from winning the wild card. For the NL, I just winged it and I really dont give 2 shits about the NL....
  11. col, why can't anyone be honest with themselves on here? Nobody knows which Schilling will return, BUT, going off what they saw last yr, you can hardly expect the 2004 version to stomp into the fens....
  12. you gave no stats. Here are his stats for when he returned to starting at the end of august.... 3-3 5.76ERA 45.1IP 29ER 67H 13BB 40K 1.54WHIP 7.9K/9IP 2.6BB/9IP that is improving??? I see that his era did improve in september, but still man. He was as inconsistent as they come. I have said before, I do not expect him to continue his putrid stats, but I also dont think he will be the horse he was in 2004. Somewhere inbetween is more likely....
  13. at least my feelings are based off cold hard stats....
  14. how'd he do last yr? I seem to remember a long bomb drifting deep into the night in his first appearance....
  15. also, gotta love how nobody here goes on stats or anything tangible. It is all "feeling". Everyone has a "feeling" that Lowell and Loretta and AGon and Youk can perform better this yr. Everyone has a "feeling" that Curt sucked solely because of injury in 2005. Everyone has a "feeling" that knee surgery also somehow re-attaches your balls (see foulke and clement). I think this season may hurt your "feelings". Sorry, but stats are a good way to see how a player will perform in years to come.....
  16. we shall see. I have a feeling Curt will not be the horse that everyone thinks he is. I think your rotation will be good enough to keep you competitive in spite of schilling, not because of him....
  17. schilling had the terrible combination of injury and sucking consistently all in one. Look at the injured yankee pitchers, they all were pitching well (those that remain that is) and their injury was the clear demarcator for their poor performance. Schilling was healthy for a span last yr and he still sucked. So, barring injury, we should be fine. For schilling, barring injury, who the fug knows how he will do. BTW, the other 24 red sox would love to pound the crap out of you for that he won the championship on one leg bit. He would not have even gotten the start if it wasnt for DLowe and the rest of the gang. He just kept the train rolling.....
  18. you NEVER predict a WS champion at the beginning of the yr. You can only pick who will make the playoffs. ALE NYY ALC CLE ALW OAK ALWC CWS NLE ATL NLC STL NLW SF NLWC CHC
  19. so many sox fans, so many delusions. The Yankees will win the east, hands down....
  20. my alma mater? Which one, lol....
  21. so Lowe got hit sh*t pushed in like seano when loaded up on kind bud???
  22. jealousy takes many forms....
  23. so last yr was tainted so we should all disregard it? Yeah okay. BTW, when was the last time somebody took what Curt said seriously? Here is the deal, the guy is a top notch athlete and he was humbled last yr. Of course he will find a way to blame it on his injury. When he returned for the second time, he should have been fully healed. He still was pedestrian. While I dont think he'll be as bad as he was last yr, I think he will be a worse pitcher than most expect. He was more healthy than not last yr....
  24. I never said is was less stressful. You are misinterpreting my words. I am saying it is different. Pitching is an extremely fine movement while running and cutting is a power and finesse movement. Think about it, would you consider making a cut on turf the same kind of sustained move as throwing a pitch. And if your ankle is 1-2 cm off in a cut, 1-2 lbs of pressure off, would that really matter? It likely wouldnt, in baseball it would. A pitching motion is a very fine movement that needs to be repeated exactly 100-150 times a night. A cut in a game is something that is repeated but it is different for every single scenario, like where the hole is, where the defender is etc. It is hardly the exact same move every single time down to a T. Pitching is a repetitive motion that is consistent many, many times over and just one small change to the consistency is the difference between a hit and an out, ball and a strike, ya get me? Curt's power is there. He has enough finesse to handle a pitching motion, but does he have enough to be consistent pitch after pitch? He wasnt last yr....
  25. I think Curt could be a solid #3 starter in the AL if he had poor velocity. His MO was power with finesse. Take a look at his walk totals in his career. They were great and fed into why he was effective. Last yr he was wild inside the zone and he got shelled. Nobody knows how he will react, but I think he might let some of you guys down who think last yr was a blip on the radar....
