  1. I think the worst thing that the MLB tried to do was to institute a grading curve for the umpires. I know it seems strange I'd say that, but now the umpires are calling pitches very inconsistently and are umpiring scared. That leads to terrible officiating. Players and managers should be the ultimate end of the yr judge of umpires, not a friggin machine. As every on here has said, it isnt that the zone gets called, but that the umpires are consistent....
  2. This could not have been more evident in the at bat prior to the royals scoring their third run. 2-2 count, nice sinker by wang hits the inside corner and gets called a ball. It was a stellar pitch. Unfortunately, Wang never recovered and gave up the lead...
  3. I hear ya. These umps blow. Damn, 4-2....
  4. I see. I was under the impression that Hansen was a year away. The question in that case is, can Hansen in 2006 adequately replace Papelbon in the pen while he stretches himself out?...
  5. Are they considering turning Hansen into a starter? Overall, Hansen is better suited as a closer because he has 2 pitches mainly, while Papelbon has 3, making his arsenal more versatile for a 6 inning performance. Hansen, IMHO is the closer of the future. Papelbon is the horse of the future, I think they would do themselves a major disservice if the reverse the two...
  6. thanks yeszir. Solid first 2 from the yankees. Giam-roid hit a 3 run bomb and the umps gave a run to the royals. 3-1 yankees, woohoo...

  8. The question about Papelbon is "how can you extend him back to starter after he is a closer for X amount of games?" It will take a young kid like Papelbon a long time to get back to starter form, and that will mostly be an organizational call as they dont want to hurt his arm. The MLB on XM people were discussing his situation yesterday and that was their point. If they decide to convert him back, he might have to be demoted to rebuild his stamina, and right now he is just too important to the club to lose him for a month of stength building...
  9. You are 100% correct. As I said before, fractures can typically not present on radiographs for a week. Those that present early could be worse then originally anticipated or could stay the same, who knows. In 10 days, the fracture will declare itself and you will know how bad it truly is. The majority of the time, 2-3 weeks is all that is needed. Sometimes the injury is a whole lot worse and requires pinning and that could be 6-8 weeks. I'd say bank on him returning last week of april or first week of may at the latest.....
  10. the globe has picked up the story and apparently the sox refuse to confirm or deny the report. Either the sox are waiting for definitive radiographs or this thing is true.....
  11. I think a guy before this made a great point. You need a leadoff hitter, and not another all or nothing guy. Stern is probably your best bet, but I'd bet you'll see a mix and match of them both...
  12. Now this is a good debate issue, because debating on whether a reputable source is pulling our chain or not is a moot point.
  13. it is a joint effort, and yes it is a MLB site, but it is also a Boston site. They certainly would be extra cautious about posting bull...
  14. like I said before, some breaks in the hand cannot be definitively called broken based on XRays for at least 7 days. There are things that could indicate a break, but are not 100% specific for a break. A bone scan, on the other hand, could....
  15. Do you seriously believe that? If it was unfounded, the sox OWN website wouldnt post it, period....
  16. redsox.com has it. It is only the website for the team, they couldnt be right, could they? Denial is the first part of the grieving process, we need to get you to acceptance real soon....
  17. probably not. I'd expect that he'd be called up when Coco gets DL'd. Then he'd have to pass waivers to get sent back to the minors and he wont...
  18. there-in lies the problem. He signed a MLB deal, so he cannot be demoted without his permission...
  19. I'm a yankee fan, I could care less. You are just a moron and it is fun picking on you...

  21. I know all the sites on both squads. If you follow 2 teams (one for, one against) you learn which sites are good for breaking news and it isnt too hard to check up...
