  1. Oops! Only 2 outs fella's. LMAO!
  2. Too early to give up on Lowell IMO. But if he is done, he'll be the first to admit it. Team guy like that. And I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.
  3. I hope/beg to differ. Time will tell, as always. I imagine that the FO has a plan.
  4. Well, it's about time. He'll retire a Red Sox eventually and work for them in some capacity. Can't see him going elsewhere. But, Boras is his agent...:thumbdown
  5. Rain, Mother Nature and what not...
  6. OMG Dipre....what up? :dunno:
  7. Not as bad as MASN now showing ESPNews......nightmare!
  8. Imagine that? Hey das! Where ya been? Missed you crapping on Tek every chance you got...
  9. I voted twice. It doesn't matter, but what the hell? Why not? Ya know? To each his/her own, I say.
  10. I realize that. Maybe we can put a Statute of Limitations on bitching/whining about the Sox not getting Texeira and trading Lowell etc. Let's say, after the All Star break or the trade deadline? It's history. We will all remember that you disagreed with the Sox on this one. Promise.
  11. Lowell feeling good Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff June 30, 2009 06:11 PM Mike Lowell’s stay on the disabled should not be any longer than the virtual minimum, which means he is scheduled to return the day after the All-Star break. He is eligible to come off July 12, the Sunday before the break, but coming off for one game wouldn’t make much sense. In all, Lowell will miss 14 games but received 19 days off, a pretty good trade off. And, manager Terry Francona said, Lowell showed up in Boston today feeling great, “to the point he’s thinking about he could play in a couple days,” Francona said. But if Lowell plays sporadically for a week and then feels hurt again, the Red Sox would be wasting an opportunity to maybe put the soreness behind Lowell for good and have him feeling good for the second half. That’s not a guarantee, but Francona says the Sox feel good about where he’ll be at after the DL time. “Sure, it could reoccur,” Francona said. “The guy had surgery. That’s why we’re doing what we’re doing. There’s nothing structurally that went wrong or crept up.” The man replacing Lowell is familiar face Jeff Bailey, who’s sort of jumped on that Lou Merloni Memorial Pawtucket-Boston Shuttle. This is Bailey’s sixth time called up since 2007. “That’s the way it is,” Bailey said. “That’s fine by me.” Bailey is at first, which Mark Kotsay a night off against Baltimore lefty Rich Hill. (Shortstop Julio Lugo, in for Nick Green and leading off, is batting .400 against lefties with a 1.043 OPS this year.) Bailey is hitting ninth, but Francona and bench coach Brad Mills actually considered batting him leadoff. Bailey typically bats leadoff for Ron Johnson in Pawtucket. Bailey will also be the emergency catcher, taking the role from Dustin Pedroia. Still, “I’d love to send Pedey back there,” Francona saiud. “See what he looks like.” (More Francona-Pedroia hilarity: Pedroia apparently messes with John Farrell often. When he wears on Farrell enough, Francona said, Farrell will literally pick him up by the by the back of his shirt with one hand. “Pedey’s little legs are just dangling,” Francona said, cracking up.) While Green is got hit with a ball in the ankle, Francona said that’s not the reason he’s not playing tonight. He wanted to give him a breather with a day game coming tomorrow. Also, Green took some grounders at third tonight with infield coach Tim Bogar.
  12. Yeah, because his season is over, clearly. dammit.
  13. Day game tomorrow. St. Drew will probably start in that one.
  14. Me too. He's definitely not playing 3rd.

  16. Updated: June 30, 2009, 12:25 PM ET Hinske to Yankees for minor leaguers NEW YORK -- Former AL Rookie of the Year Eric Hinske was acquired by the New York Yankees from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday for a pair of minor leaguers. Pittsburgh will receive right-hander Casey Erickson and outfielder Eric Fryer for the utilityman. In addition, the Pirates will give the Yankees cash. The 31-year-old Hinske hit .255 in 106 at-bats this season with nine doubles, one homer and 11 RBIs, playing right field, first base and third base. He was 8 for 24 as a pinch hitter and said to be unhappy with a lack of playing time. Through June 29 last year, he had 13 home runs en route to a 20-home run season with the AL champion Tampa Bay Rays. He won the rookie award with Toronto in 2002, when he hit .279 with 24 homers and 84 RBIs, and was a member of Boston's World Series championship team in 2007. The 23-year-old Erickson was 3-3 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts and 18 relief appearances at Class A Charleston this season. Fryer, also 23, hit .250 with 11 doubles, two homers, 24 RBIs and 11 steals for Class A Tampa after leading the South Atlantic League with a .335 average last year for West Virginia. He was obtained by the Yankees in February for left-hander Chase Wright. To fill Hinske's roster spot, Pittsburgh said it will purchase the contract of 28-year-old outfielder Garrett Jones from Triple-A Indianapolis, where he hit .307 with 18 doubles, 12 homers, 48 RBIs and 14 steals. 20. Lowell's shot, Tito's batting order Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff June 29, 2009 05:34 PM After third baseman Mike Lowell received his Synvisc injection in his right hip this afternoon in Boston, the Red Sox are in a "waiting mode" in regards to Lowell's playing stauts, manager Terry Francona said. Before the shot, Lowell had "about 15 CCs of fluid taken out," Francona said. "Which for a hip is pretty extensive." Francona was optimistic the fluid draining would help Lowell feel more comfortable. Lowell will do some therapy with trainer Scott Waugh tomorrow, and he'll stay in Boston until the Red Sox come back from Baltimore. So that's the plan. What comes next? Lowell has already spoken to Theo Epstein and had "pretty extensive conversations" with Francona. "Worst-case scenario, he goes on the DL," Francona said. "Just to buy us a couple weeks where he can kind of get a second wind for the second part of the season. We can also wait a few days, and then just let him play. That's OK, too. We're just kind of in a waiting mode. We'll see. I think we have the ability to wait a couple days." As for players in Baltimore, two of them had to do a quick doubletake at the lineup this afternoon. J.D. Drew and Dustin Pedroia swapped the second and first spots, which, as Francona said, is "not the biggest deal in the world." The move is not a reaction to the Red Sox scoring only six runs in their weekend series against the Braves. Francona wants to get Pedroia out of the leadoff spot, where he's hit since Jacoby Ellsbury was moved down May 31. Batting first this season, Pedroia is batting .214 with a .264 on-base percentage. Pedroia is "too conscientious," Francona said, and he didn't mean that in a bad way. When Pedroia hits leadoff, he changes his approach, working the count like a leadoff hitter should. Since May 31, when Pedroia first batted leadoff, he has seen 3.94 pitches per plate appearances. Before, he had seen 3.78 pitches per plate appearance. (For an idea of how much that matters, Pedroia's leadoff rate ranks 70th in the AL over that span. His pre-leadoff rate ranked outside the top 100 in the AL during that time.) "The last thing I want guys to do when we move them is change," Francona said. "I don't if he has the ability. He sees himself hitting first, and he wants to do the right thing. He's getting himself in a hole in the count. "He wasn't complaining. He goes, 'I'm fine.' I think Pedey is trying too hard to do the right thing. We just want him to be himself." In his one game at leadoff this year, Drew went 1 for 4 with a single. Francona did not consider moving Ellsbury back to the leadoff spot. Down the road, Ellsbury might be the best leadoff option. Right now, with this team, he's not. The Sox are 15-7 when Ellsbury plays and doesn't bat leadoff. "That was the other thing Pedey said," Francona said. " 'He goes, 'We're winning.' I said, 'If it's bothering you, why don't you tell me?' He goes, '[expletive], we're winning.' That's Pedey. That's we love him. He cares more about winning than himself. I believe that."
