Delcarmen headed to disabled list Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff July 1, 2010 04:15 PM Via a Major League source, the Globe's Nick Cafardo is reporting that Red Sox righthander Manny Delcarmen will be placed on the disabled list with a right forearm strain. No word yet on who the team will be calling up for tomorrow night's game against Baltimore. The two likely candidates are RHP Robert Manuel and RHP Fernando Cabrera. Delcarmen has faced 14 batters in his last three appearances and gotten three of them out, giving up nine hits in the process.

Beltre has been a beast for the Sox Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff June 29, 2010 02:27 PM Be honest. You were down on Adrian Beltre after spring training and the first two weeks of the season. He wasn't hitting home runs. He was making silly errors. You wondered what the heck Theo Epstein was thinking, even if it was a one-year deal. Now be honest again. Aren't you thinking about getting a Beltre jersey the next time you're at the park? The guy has been carrying the team. Check out these numbers from his last 59 games: .359 batting average .404 on-base percentage .602 slugging percentage 12 home runs 46 RBIs Outside of maybe Scott Rolen, who's having an under-the-radar monster season for the Reds, Beltre is the best third baseman in baseball at the moment. Evan Longoria, in town with the Rays tonight, has an .890 OPS. Beltre is at .926. Defensively, Beltre has the best UZR/150 in the American League and it's not even close. He has 13 errors, but focus on the ground that he covers. The guy has more range than Robert DeNiro and makes throws that are ridiculous. Scott Boras will take his client into the market after the season. But at this point, wouldn't the Sox be crazy not to try and keep him?

They are hitting .240 and averaging 4.3 runs over those 31 games. Rays redux: The Sox are 3-4 against the Rays this season, losing four games at Fenway in April and winning three games at Tropicana Field in May. The teams have each scored 28 runs in the series. ... The Sox are 15-15 against teams in the division. No Lack of wins lately: John Lackey is 4-0 with a 4.15 ERA in his last six starts. But the Red Sox are only 8-7 in the games that he has started this season. Struggling Shields: James Shields is 0-6 with a 7.12 ERA in his last six starts. Marco's the man: Scutaro has hit safely in 20 of his last 23 games at 34 of 105 (.324) with 11 extra-base hits, 17 runs scored and 15 RBIs. The Sox are 15-8 in those games. Scutaro has a 3.8 UZR, second among all shortstops in baseball. The ups and downs: Daniel Nava's first 10 games: 13 of 34 (.382), six runs scored, eight extra-base hits, 10 RBIs, .447 OB. Nava's last four games: 2 of 17 (.118), three runs scored, no extra-base hits, no RBIs, .211 OBP.
