(AP)—Jon Miller and Joe Morgan are out as announcers on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” after 21 seasons. “Over the last two decades, Joe went from Hall of Fame player to one of his sport’s top analysts and Jon’s Hall of Fame voice and tremendous knowledge of the game have connected with baseball fans everywhere,” ESPN executive vice president Norby Williamson said in a statement Monday. “We owe them our deepest thanks for an outstanding body of work.” The network did not announce replacements. Miller, the play-by-play voice, received the Baseball Hall of Fame’s 2010 Ford C. Frick Award. Morgan, the color commentator, was a two-time National League MVP with the Cincinnati Reds. Werth hit a HR in the play-offs and I noticed a lot of his teamates just sat on the bench and didn't get up to give him congrats or anything. Is he not a "club house guy"? -
Same here. More from the Globe: Notes: The Red Sox have gone two years without a winner. ... These are voted on by the managers and coaches. ... Jeter winning is a bit comical considering he's simply not a very good shortstop and is arguably one of the worst given his lack of range. UZR is not necessarily an accurate stat for one season. But he was seventh in the AL among qualifying shortstops. Jeter did not get a single vote in the Fielding Bible Awards, which reflect much more statistically driven opinion. And those guys vote 10 spots. ... Prepare for much outrage over the Jeter pick but I doubt Rawlings or MLB will change the rules. It's a ridiculous, flawed process and has been for a while. Beyond Jeter, I can't argue with any of the picks. Daric Barton probably had a better year than Teixeira and Franklin Gutierrez wasn't as good in 2010 as he was in '09. I'd have voted for Austin Jackson.
