From the Globe: UPDATE, 8:05 p.m.: It appears the deal was done without an extension. Look for the Red Sox to come to an agreement but not announce it until after Opening Day. That would allow them to save million on the luxury tax. It is likely that the Red Sox and Gonzalez have an understanding of what the extension would be, otherwise it would be risky to trade three prospects for one year out of the first baseman. This is basically what happened with Josh Beckett last spring. There was a deal in place that was announced after Opening Day. It also would allow them to make sure Gonzalez recovers from the surgery he had on his right (non-throwing) shoulder. But that is not a major issue.

Update on the Gonzalez talks Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff December 5, 2010 01:19 PM Greetings from the Miami International Airport, where connecting from the Dominican Republic to Orlando means going though immigration, baggage claim, customs and security. Loads of fun. There is a 2 p.m. deadline for a contract extension for Adrian Gonzalez. No news on a deal yer. But keep these things in mind: • The Sox can still go ahead with the deal without an extension. But they would have to have a strong indication that a deal can get done. • Waiting to announce the extension until after Opening Day could help save money on the luxury tax. That's what happened with Josh Beckett last year. • Or they could just make a deal now and get it over with. As information becomes available, we'll keep you posted.

Gonzalez gets physical Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff December 4, 2010 12:01 PM Adrian Gonzalez has been at Massachusetts General Hospital this morning undergoing a physical and MRIs on his shoulder. It appears the Padre slugger could soon be a Red Sox as Gonzalez' agent, John Boggs, is set to meet with the Red Sox this afternoon in an effort to hammer out a contract extension. The Red Sox would love to get this done before they embark to the Winter Meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. tomorrow. Gonzalez arrived in Boston last night and stayed at a local hotel. He went to Mass General this morning for a physical. The sides have worked out a deal which would would send pitcher Casey Kelly, first baseman Anthony Rizzo and outfielder Raymond Fuentes to the Padres. Not known whether there's a fourth player or whether anyone may come back to Boston besides Gonzalez.

I know you guys can handle anything! I'm aware that folks love to discuss trades, future players etc etc. But I'm with you. No matter what I want or think or opine....the FO makes the final decision on everything and that's why they are paid the big bucks. Thanks so much for 2004 and 2007! I don't expect to win every year or even make the play offs. This board is for all Red Sox discussions etc. Some discussions aren't for me so I stay out. But when JimEd steps in......uhhhhh....chill out tool. Love ya YOTN! :thumbsup:

Werth hit a HR in the NLCS and hardly any of his teamates seem to care. That was strange to me. I've always liked Crawford.
