  14. Ortiz takes some swings Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff August 20, 2011 05:25 PM KANSAS CITY — Finally, some good news on the medical front for the Red Sox. David Ortiz shed his walking boot today and took some swings in the cage for the first time since last Sunday in Seattle. That seems to be ahead of the initial projections. But as Terry Francona pointed out, it was literally a day-by-day thing with his bursitis in Ortiz's right heel. No word as of yet on when Ortiz might play. But today is certainly a good step forward.
  15. Medical updates from Kansas City Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 20, 2011 03:01 PM KANSAS CITY — Today's lineup has Darnell McDonald in center replacing Jacoby Ellsbury, who will get a day or two off after being hit in the back with a pitch. Ellsbury has a contusion, but no structural damage according to the result of an MRI that was taken. David Ortiz is expected to be in his boot through the weekend and then be free to start his comeback from right heel bursitis. Kevin Youkilis, who was given an injection to his back has begun to respond favorably.

  21. When it rains, it pours.... ..... Ryan Lavarnway up; Kevin Youkilis to DL Posted by Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff August 18, 2011 01:30 PM By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff Red Sox catcher/DH slugger Ryan Lavarnway will join the team in Kansas City and it looks like Kevin Youkilis is going to do some DL time because of a sore back. We'll have more details as they become available. Lavarnway, 25, has split the season with Class AA Portland and Class AAA Pawtucket, playing 55 games with the Sea Dogs then being promoted for 55 games with the PawSox. He has 30 home runs and 85 RBI.
