  11. I know from reading last night's GT that some people like the new placement of the score box by NESN. I don't for selfish reasons. I like to sit on my deck and watch the game and when I angle my tv so I can the game I used to always be able to see the score box. Can't now. Oh well. Lester is not having a good start, at all.

Stat of the Day: After his three-run, eighth-inning homer Monday night, Adrian Gonzalez has a team-high nine game-winning RBIs this season. Notes: Lester makes his first post-All-Star break start. He lasted just 4.1 innings on July 8 against the Yankees, taking the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits. He last faced the White Sox on April 28. In one of his best outings this season, Lester pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits and striking out seven. Lester has not lasted past the seventh inning since May 14, but he has a team-high 10 quality starts. He is 12 strikeouts away from 1,000 career Ks ... Humber has been on the disabled list since June 17 with a strained right elbow. Since pitching a perfect game on April 21 at Seattle, his ERA is 7.47. In Humber's latest outing, he stopped a two-game losing streak by picking up the win against the Dodgers, a five-inning affair on June 16. He pitched in a rehab start Thursday for Double A Birmingham, allowing one run, two hits, and no walks in six innings. .... Last night's Red Sox win snapped a seven-game losing streak at Fenway against the White Sox, a streak that dated back to Aug. 26, 2009 ... Over his past 17 outings, Vicente Padilla has a 1.23 ERA. Sixteen of those outings have been scoreless ... Gonzalez has hit safely in 20 of 21 games ... Since being dealt to Chicago, Kevin Youkilis has 15 RBIs and is hitting .323 ... Pierzynski is batting .500 over his past four games.

[Paterno] knew less about it than everybody else there. On the extent of Paterno's power at Penn State: "[The thought that] everything revolves around [Paterno] is total nonsense. He had very few allies. He was isolated. He was not nearly as powerful as people imagine him to have been." On the media's role in the story: “Paterno is one of the very few people who saw Sandusky and saw a coach who wasn’t doing a job anymore, rather than a hero … people who are responsible for it are the media. The media created this smokescreen behind which Sandusky operated, and then they’re trying to blame Paterno.”

The White Sox lost that game, 10-3 ... Carl Crawford will make his first major league appearance since Sept. 28, 2011. In 11 minor league games rehabbing his strained elbow ligament and then a groin injury, Crawford hit .306 (11 for 36) with eight walks and two stolen bases ... Youkilis is hitting .295 with 15 RBIs in 16 games since being dealt. For contrast, he had 14 RBIs in 42 games with the Red Sox this season.
