Lester is scheduled to make his major league debut for the Boston Red Sox on Saturday when they face the Texas Rangers in the opening game of a day-night doubleheader. A 22-year-old lefthander from Tacoma, Washington, Lester (NR) was 3-4 with a 2.70 ERA with 43 strikeouts in 11 starts with Class AAA Pawtucket. Playing their first day-night twinbill in nine years, the Rangers counter with John Rheinecker (2-0, 1.77 ERA), who makes his fourth start of the season. He gave up two runs and seven hits in eight innings of Sunday's victory over the Chicago White Sox. Trot Nixon went 4-for-4, including a three-run homer, and Mike Lowell hit an eighth-inning sacrifice fly to lead the Red Sox to Friday's 4-3 triumph over the Rangers. Michael Young belted his fourth homer of the campaign for Texas, which is 17-12 on the road.

The game is on for now, but there’s more rain in the forecast as the National Weather Service is calling for periods of showers in Boston, mainly before midnight. The rain could be heavy at times and the chance of precipitation is 100 percent.

If Lester is succesful and continues to be successful the sox are going to trade a pitching making peanuts for someone who is going to get a boatload of money in arbitration when he clearly will not be worth it.

Kalish is a good sign and it doesn't hurt he has red sox roots with family in Massachusetts

Tim Wakefield (4-7, 4.05) endured a similar performance when starting opposite Padilla on April 4. The 39-year-old Wakefield surrendered seven runs and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings of that game, falling to 7-13 with a 6.27 ERA in 27 lifetime appearances - 20 starts - against the Rangers. Fellow 39-year-old Curt Schilling allowed three runs and four hits in eight innings and Jason Varitek drove in four runs as the Red Sox posted a 9-3 triumph in Thursday's finale of a three-game series against the New York Yankees. The victory concluded a nine-game road trip in which Boston went 4-5. Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira has connected for only three home runs in his last 40 games, giving him six in 59 games this season. Teixeira had 16 homers through 59 games last year en route to a career-high 43.
