  1. You guys can come back. We were down two in the 2001 Division Series against Oakland and came back three to win it. We also lost our first 2 games in Oakland. Anything is possible -- I mean you really have to believe "Yogi" -- he was totally correct in saying "It ain't over til it's over". I don't give up on my team til the last out of the last inning. Anyway -- have tickets to tonights game with the "Big Unit" pitching. Can't wait -- hope it isn't rained out!! Good luck to all teams.
  2. There you go again underestimating the power of the Yankees. I think you guys were supposed to be first in the AL east also, weren't you? Any four of these teams have a chance to win. The Angels have done us in before, but that doesn't mean we can't beat them this year. And as far as you and the White Sox are concerned -- I believe it can go either way. Contreras is hot -- he's not the same pitcher he was when he was on the Yankees. It ain't over til it's over -- Yogi was a very wise man.
  3. Don't worry about it -- Joe Torre is giving you the game. If Schilling can't come up the winning pitcher against Wright, you have more things to worry about than today's game.
  4. First of all I'm not a guy. And second of all I posted back a while ago -- I think it was August. I've lurked around on these boards just reading out of respect to you all. I respect your ball club, always have -- been a Yankee fan since the 70's. Boston has always been the team that has given us the hardest time. The players in the 70's were always some of the best - Fisk, Rice, Scott, Yas. But when I read this thread I was in disbelief. Couldn't believe that a one time world series win in 86 years would bring you all to the space where you thought that the Yankees didn't have a chance to catch up. After all the history of these two teams it was very mystifying to me. My team has performed miracles in the past (as far as I'm concerned). It has happened over and over again where we are down and we come back. This is factual, not some kind of illusion. Take 2001 World Series. We managed to get the Diamondbacks to the 7th game. Look at the way we were hitting. We were practically shut down. If it weren't for Mo's (very unusual) blow... we would be at 27 right now. So I'm very sorry if I hurt any of you. Not my intention really. Just saying I told you so...probably not the right thing to do, but hey -- you'd probably do the same -- it's a rivalry after all. By the way -- except for the fact that he doesn't field, I think Big Papi deserves the MVP. I know A-rod is great, but in my opinion he is lacking something. Not in his athletic ability, but in his heart. I don't think of him as the Yankess of the present. He would have fit in much better with the arrogant Yankees of the 70's.
  5. Just read the whole thread Mr. Shilling and you'll know what I mean by we got the last laugh. And "Again" goes without saying......there was a question asked and the answer didn't include the red sox....I found that weird, personally. When the thread was started we were (I believe) 2 1/2 games out of first place. How could anyone think that there was no way we could come back and take the American League East? There was a lot of very confident fans believing it was all over. When I pointed out it wasn't, you all made it like I was nuts to even fathom that the Yankees would take it. Well my prediction came true. Remember your humble beginnings cause we will always be the thorn in your side --- as you are to us. And don't worry about what we're doing with the Angels....just worry about yourselves cause you haven't clinched anthing yet!!!
  6. Yeah - I would vote for the Red Sox also --- since we clinched the American League East Division!!!!! Got the last laugh again, didn't we!!!!
  7. I've been a Yankee fan for a very long time. What I've noticed over the years is that it really doesn't matter how you win -- it only matters whose ahead in score at the end of the game. When Mariano Rivera was pitching in the 9th inning of the 2001 World Series, every Yankee fan in the US was thinking -- "We won another World Series" -- Mo was the one -- the infallible. But he screwed up. In actuality the way we were playing we shouldn't have even gotten to the 7th game of that series. In actuality the way the Red Sox were playing last ALCS -- you shouldn't have gotten to the 7th game -- but you did. As I've said before -- "It ain't over til it's over", and "Stranger things have happened". Let's just see what happens this next week. We have just as good a chance as you guys do. Maybe you should humble yourself out a little and admit that.
  8. It doesn't matter about Randy Johnson, we have other consistent pitching. We have a good chance of winning, as do you. All I am saying is it ain't over til it's over. Frankly I am confused as to why anyone that is a Redsox fan would be boasting that they clinched the American League East when they were 2 1/2 games ahead of the most celebrated team in the history of baseball. That's a mystery. Hold on boys it's going to be a long 2 weeks.
  9. Well atleast one of you is confident about your team. Some of the people on the other thread have thrown in the towel already, and you're still ahead. Frankly I never give up on my team. No reason to -- statistically they pull through for me most of the time. Our pitching is good, our hitting is good. The Yankees want this bad......it will be an interesting end of the season series!! I can't wait!
  10. Have you hit the panic button yet? Or do you still think the Yankees don't have a chance to finish in first this season? Fasten your seat belts this is going to be a bumpy ride!!!! As usual.
  11. Just speaking the truth Riverside. Not bashing your team. I have respect for your team -- always have, every year they gave us a rough time. I was at the 7th game last year. I was surrounded by Sox fans. I congratulated everyone around me (and believe me I was in shock). But you don't have a huge lead -- the Yankees are playing good ball right now. Anything can happen -- I think you all know that there is a possibility that we could take the lead. It's happened before. So we will see.
  12. Okay we'll see -- we certainly have had the last laugh in the past. Many times for that matter. All I'm saying is nothing is impossible at this point. It is really too close to call. Always remember what Yogi said - "It ain't over til it's over" -- And if any of you remember, that was proven to us last year -- so be careful about being so arrogant as to think things can't take a turn.
  13. Come on -- Do you really think there is no way that the Yankees can finish in first. Big deal if we didn't stay ahead in July - we have rearranged a few things since then. Be realistic -- Anything can happen at this point. You're only 2 games ahead -- it's not like you have a 10 game lead.
  14. Maybe because we are 2 1/2 out and have the whole month of September to go. I don't know stranger things have happened, haven't they?
  15. I have to say -- I don't think the Yankees are going to take the wild card. I think the Yankees will enter the playoffs in first place in the American League East.
