Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz does not have a tear or rupture in his Achilles' tendon and will take a few days off, but will not be placed on the disabled list, the Globe's Nick Cafardo reported.
"As of right now no DL," Cafardo tweeted.
Cafardo said earlier Tuesday that Red Sox management was "discussing the possibility" of a trip to the disabled list for Ortiz. But he also said the Red Sox waited until Ortiz arrived at Fenway Park to go over the options.
Ortiz's injured his Achilles' tendon as he rounded second base after Adrian Gonzalez hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning of Monday's victory over the White Sox. Daniel Nava replaced him in the lineup on Tuesday.
"Sox waiting for 1 on 1 with Ortiz when he arrives to park. Part of discussion will be whether to DL or wait out sore Achilles," Cafardo tweeted earlier.
