  1. Nothing. Matt Clement would have continued to be solid had he not got beaned. He wouldn't have kept aceing, but he would have been solid. His stamina was set back a great deal by getting hit, and he became tentative on the hill. Beckett has had ace stuff but has been sidelined before with injury. These are two different beasts. Matt Clement has a history losing his footing in the second half, Beckett has a history of being a beast when he isn't hurt. You can't say that just because one guy went downhill after a good start that here on in any guy who gets off to a good start must be going down that path too. I know you're not saying hes going down that same path, but really there aren't any simliarities. Beckett is a beast. We have a great front of the order. Don't be surprised if the Yankees are looking up at the sox even after mothers day.
  2. I don't know if Wang has the skill set to ever be 'dominant' but I like his stuff. He'll get a good deal of ground ball outs, but he isn't going to blow away the competition. He will probably be very dependable, dominant might be the wrong d-word.
  3. Delcarmen was good last year, but he needs more consistency with his curve. He has a very good high 90's fastball but its straight. If his curve is off, he has nothing to compliment that fastball and he gets racked. So, I hate to say it, but maybe he needs another pitch to go along with his curve. People say that about prospects all the time, and it usually isn't true, but I think it might work out in Delcarmens favor to have a third pitch.
  4. Talk about a pissing contest. We won the game, who cares.
  5. 'lol' what? thats a solid assessment. I would peg Wang at about 15 W's with a 3.9-4.10 ERA. There isn't anything wrong with that out put. That is a good starting pitcher.
  6. Correction, if there is instant replay in baseball, they probably go to extra innings.
  7. Wang is solid. No two ways around it. I could see Wang winning 15 this year. Hes good.
  8. Its not exactly a flaw right now, with Coco out, and Nixon on the shelf for a couple more days, the offense might lag a little bit. When Manny gets hot, with Coco as a table setter, this team will break games open. I still think that Clement is going to be reliable this year, and I think if we can move a Papelbon or a DiNardo permantly into the fifth spot, this could be the deepest rotation in baseball. We won't give up runs, and while we won't score as much as last year, we will be scoring significant runs again this year. Just wait until Manny heats up. We're putting a lot of people on base right now. A lot. To strand all these runners and still come away with wins is huge.
  9. http://www.mohr-i.nl/img/standclear.jpg papelbon time.
  10. Prepare to activate the papelboner.
  11. He is making all the plays, but when he does, he looks like hes drunk.
  12. Gah, I really am getting annoyed with the Pena bashing. No one talks about the way he has begun to take pitches, or the way he is hitting .316, not that batting averages matter right now but thats still a good way to hit considering everyone is already on Mannys case and Lorettas for that matter.
  13. That, folks, is what aces do. Stranding the tying run at 3rd with one out, on back to back strike outs no less, is ace work. This bodes well for the Sox.
  14. Yeah, we're really stranding a lot of guys, but I also think that we are putting a lot of guys on base. It looks worse than it is. If we keep putting guys on base at this pace, the percentages will end up in our favor and we will see a lot of ball games broken open.
  15. Foulke will eventually be closer again. He looks more like hes getting his stuff back.
  16. Alright, this gun is buggin me. Is Beckett really throwing 88-90 right now?
  17. Pena trade was fine. He'll be a good hitter and the Wells situation isn't a situation as soon as they stretch out Papelbon.
  18. Given Pena's arm it would have been 1st and 3rd.
  19. Great play by Wily Mo, his defense has come a long way.
  20. I'm watching on MLB TV and its really annoying, their gun is off and Becketts fastball is around 86 mph. Kinda scary. But then his curve was at like 65, so clearly something was wrong.
  21. That was a very very bad call. I don't know how that happened. What is wrong with refs and umpires lately? The super bowl was terrible, most of the NFL playoffs were god awful, and so far this season all over baseball the umpires have been blowing calls all over the field.
  22. Today, I predict Manny comes out of his slump.
  23. I don't see ellsbury being anything to write home about, nor bucholz. I've read a lot about the pure stuff bowden has so the jury is out there until i see something but he seems promising. Delcarmen and Big Edgar could go either way but I love Big Edgars stuff. Pedroia, Hansen, Lester, and Papelbon I think are can't miss prospects.
  24. Not true, the pitch they are working on, and have been with Hansen is his change. He's got a fine slider, and it really was nasty in the spring. They want him to refine his change because they believe that maybe at some point Hansen could make the jump to a starter, but right now they see him as a closer at least they do by everything I have read. I think that in the past most of the Red Sox prospects have fizzled, true. This is different though. The Sox farm system was ranked 8th overall, and thats impressive. Don't doubt that most of these guys turn out to be solid major leaguers. My definition of solid might be more conservative than yours, but I definetly see most of these guys (pedroia, lester, papelbon, hansen, martinez, delcarmen, etc.) being solid major leaguers. I see most of them being good. http://www.projo.com/pawsox/content/projo_20060411_11pawsox.d8a728c.html Not a bad article right there.
