  1. I'm gonna sticky this so it doesn't get lost if someone doesn't flirt with a no-no for awhile.
  2. Phillip Hughes is god. I pray every day that they deal that man for Jacque Jones or someone bad because Hughes will really make me mad sometime i can feel it.
  3. If I were Theo I would look to move some of the position prospects for major league pitching at this deadline. Like Pedroia, Ellsbury in the right deal and Soto possibly. Maybe Lowrie. To me, if you home grow and lock up solid pitching, the 7 guys who play behind them can be bought on the market. So can the guy behind the plate. The pitching is rare and expensive, you stock pile that and never dish it out.
  4. So, now that we all know that BJ Ryan has nothing to do with the Rookie of the Year award, I think its safe to say its between Liriano and Papelbon. Papelbon and Ryan are both pitching their way into the record books, Papelbon being a rookie, its that much more impressive. I think Liriano has to have a sub-3 ERA with a good deal of wins to be able to take the award from Papelbon. Right now, its without question Jon's award to lose.
  5. Are you kidding? I don't think Papelbon needs anything to be over the hump, he is the talk of baseball and is an absolute machine. If he doesn't win the AL ROY, there is something wrong with the way these awards are given out.
  6. Papelbon has a strangle hold on the ROY award i do think.
  7. 200 innings is always more valuable than 80. Unless they intend to turn Papelbon into a throw-back 2 inning closer, ala gossage. If they give the 8th and 9th to Papelbon then I would entertain the idea of keeping him in the pen, but with his talent, he has gotta be stretched out in my mind. Especially when you have a guy in Hansen who is so talented and could be a great closer as well. Papelbon right now is having the best season a reliever could ever dream of, but who would you rather have? A Mariano, or a Halladay? Papelbon reminds me a lot of Halladay. Halladay comes right after you with fastballs and has that one explosive out pitch in the curve. Papelbon has the explosive splitter, and his fastballs make even the coolest major league hitters sweat bullets. 200 innings of Papelbon makes me happy. I think its at the point where no one can deny that this guy has rare talent. I think that talent is best used in the rotation.
  8. Erm, I highly doubt that acquiring johnson has tied up Theo's phone lines so that he won't be talking to the Braves about Smoltz. If Smoltz is available, the Sox will at least look into it.
  9. I think Rudy is the man, truthfully. Aside from being bad at baseball, he is awesome.
  10. Crawford, Baldelli (AAA), Delmon Young who is a monster also in AAA, Huff, Gomes, and Gathwright. They can afford to lose one in order to bring in another young starter. Man, when they get any kind of payroll increase, if they get one more potential frontline starter to go with Kazmir and Edwin Jackson... look out in a couple of years.
  11. I don't think Pedroia and a couple more guys is a rip off. Especially if trading Giles is something they intend to do, I'd actually like to think thats a nice fit right there.
  12. I'm not gonna go re-read but it may very well have been my bad. My apologies. If I were Theo, I would not even talk hypothetical deals involving lester and hansen. Not for anything. Also, if I were Theo I would pick John Scherholtz's brain about a Pedroia, Soto and Bucholz for Smoltz trade.
  13. The one thing Tampa needs is pitching, the one thing they have plenty of depth in is OFer's so I would think that would be a great move for Tampa.
  14. I have to say, Hansen looked wonderful tonight. I know he gave up two in the ninth, and I think working two innings will be something he will do later on. Right now, I love Hansen for an inning. His fastball is electric. 98 with Papelbon movement.
  15. Hey, I love guys off the garbage heap. One teams trash often is another teams treasure. I have no qualms with snyder so long as he can get outs.
  16. The reason most people want a guy on the cheap is because getting a top of the rotation guy by trade will cost the teams future... all of it. If Smoltz could come to Boston for Pedroia its a no brainer, IMO. If Smoltz could come to Boston for something like MDC, Murphy and Soto? I would also do it.
  17. Wait, Schill the Natural, you didn't make one coherent point in your post. Would you actually trade Lester Hansen and Pedroia for Smoltz? Thats insane! I would not trade Lester for anything right now, or Hansen, trading Pedroia is doable but christ, man, Lester or Hansen? That makes no sense! A half year of good pitching and next year who knows from Smoltz in exchange for six years of solid pitching potentially from those two?!?! Thats nuts.
  18. I would consider moving pedroia but would prefer not to. The ideal trade to me would be Murphy and Bucholz. I would do that for Smoltz. I would keep Pedroia in my back pocket to throw in if I absolutely knew it would get the deal done.
  19. THANK YOU!! It seems like people don't realize that average stats are taken over time... batting average judges how well he has hit up to a certain point and Crisp has not played nearly as many games as gonzo or damon so comparing them now is useless. It makes no sense. Does everyone remember Gonzo through 25 games? It was pathetic, so give Crisp time.
  20. The Sox have never had a farm system like they have now. They are not building for now they are building for two and three years from now. To expect the Sox to go out and pay an arm and a leg for a semi-frontline starter is absurd. It goes against they're organizational philosophy. Lester is here to learn how to pitch in the big leagues, not to become bait. You'll be happy when the Sox put it the pennant away every year for a few years when some of these players reach the big leagues playing major roles with minimal pay checks, allowing the Sox to procure some of the big time players that hit free agency in the years to come. Thats why the Sox didn't go after the big fish this offseason or last because when the time comes, there will be the same talent out there for the same price and the sox will have the flexibility to pay for it all while having impact players on the cheap as well. You'll be happy.
  21. Schmidt is injury prone and will cost our future. 700, why do you want to win so bad this year? Would you sell our future this season knowing full well that we would get mowed down by the white sox in the playoffs? Wait. Have some patience. Lester is going to stay, so is Hansen, so that means we are really looking at the second teir guys. (Thompson, Ramon Ortiz etc. etc.)
  22. That my friend may be the truest thing you have said in months. Now I like Francona... most of the time. The past few days have been tough to like him though. Our bullpen would be in better shape if he used Delcarmen more ( I think Delcarmen has great stuff and I attribute his inconsistent command to the cob webs he gets sitting on that bullpen bench for stretches). Our record would be better if we didn't put a AAA lineup out every now and then. I have no problem with working guys in, but this is a team that is expected to win a division so lets not give away one game a week by piling all the bench players in at once. What is next? Bring your daughter to work day, all the players can have their daughters start at their position. I really don't like that on days when Wake starts, Mirabelli catches and while Tek isn't swinging so well he is better then Belli so thats one hole already but then he piles in Harris and subs out Loretta infavor of Cora, lets Snow take first and gives Lowell the day off. Its nuts.
  23. Nope, but even 4 ER is enough to keep a team in a game. Thats not a bad output, but wake gave up 3 ER and one more unearned. That is a game you win. http://146.145.120.3/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=globe&page=mlb/scores/final/boxscore.aspx?GAMEID=16927
  24. Yeah, stop watching. Just quit. Root against the team or become a yankees fan. They have a lot of old players who you could root for.
  25. Alright, I just wanna point out that Wake was not dissappointing. He pitched well enough to win that game and he pitched a little hurt, not much but regardless he did not dissappoint. 3 ER in 6 IP is not bad. His record sucks, yes, but everyone is bagging on him and grouping him with Clement as another bad starter. Not the case. Here is to hoping Schilling keeps it up, Beckett turns it up, and Lester mans up. If so, we have a rotation.
