  1. Canseco said he had no knowledge that Tejada was on steroids, he was just speculating about who might be. He said that he injected Palmeiro with steroids. Big difference there. Huge difference. Grand Canyon like difference.
  2. Absurd. The Yankees have Giambi and Sheffield who already confessed to steroids. Plus several other players on their current team are mentioned in the current rumors. There is only one Oriole ever proven to have used steroids or who has confessed to the fact. That is Palmerio. Just naming players who played for the Orioles (and several other teams) and saying that you think they were on steroids that just reflects your dislike for the Orioles rather than anything of substance.
  3. No evidence Tejada is on steroids, sorry. MLB does not test for Human Growth Hormone. Also there are likely designer steroids that would not show up in the urine tests that are administered. Plus their are stories about "whizzinaters" and other ways to get around the urine tests. I still believe it is more likely than not that that Giambi is back on the juice. Show me another player in the history of baseball who suddenly hit 14HR's in July after hitting only 5 through June. It hasn't happened before. It would be far more certain if MLB administered random blood tests.
  4. Well I wasn't suggesting he was on steroids in July and now off them. His power would not have disappeared overnight once he stopped taking HGH or steroids. However what is possible is that he became aware of the tremendous amount of speculation that was going around about his possibly having gone back on steroids. Here he was hitting like Mark Belanger through May, then in July he was hitting like Babe Ruth, tying all time monthly records for HR's that Mantle had set in '61. So in order to stop the steroid speculation and ease suspicions, the best way would seem to be to simply stop hitting HR's for awhile. Can you imagine the suspicions that would be voiced if Giambi set another HR record for August? The Yankees are winning anyway, so Giambi's HR's are not needed at this point in the season. If he is back on steroids he knows he can turn it on and start swinging for the fences when he has to, down the stretch drive and in the playoffs, to help the Yankees win.
  5. I suspect that if congress takes over the steroid tests and MLB has strict olympic style testing imposed upon it, certain teams will be hurt far more than others. Both by players being caught, and players going off the juice and seeing their performances dramatically decline. I tend to believe the Yankees are at a higher risk for this than are most other teams.
  6. I thought that myself. There was so much talk of Giambi being on steroids when he was setting the league on fire, if he were on steroids there may have been advice for him to "cool it", not to be so obvious about it. "Hey Jason, don't hit two homers a day, man, the Commis will order you to be tested. " The Yankees are winning anyway against poor Texas. Then he could turn it on again and hit HR's in the stretch (September) to help the Yankes get the Wild Card. And especially in the post season, he can blast away, and the steroid talk would not be nearly as great as it would have been had he set HR records for August like he did for July. Or, maybe it's just a slump, and I'm being a little paranoid. Who knows?
  7. The Yankee board is full of speculation about this, such as: "Originally Posted by JeterRodriguezSheff rumour aroun these parts(Selden, Long Island) is that one of the guys is Pujols or A-rod" http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?p=2595803#post2595803 If it were either of these two players especially A-Rod, I would have to suspect every top hitter in baseball.
  8. I think it was a little more than just rubbing a cream on his leg. And they all use the excuse they didn't know what they were taking
  9. That would really be something if it turned out to be Rivera. Is there a link to that? I've had in the back of my mind that he may be on something, who knows? I think that pitchers are on the juice more than the fans would expect. One steroid expert said that pitchers actually benefit more from streroids than do hitters. After seeing Bonds I doubt that but I still think steroids can be a big boost to pitchers, can improve their fastballs and keep them from getting injured. It would usually be a different type of steroid than what the hitters used, one that doesn't add as much bulk.
  10. Clemens isn't a Yankee either.
  11. That's a fantasy of some Yankee fans, that David Ortiz is the big name guy. I've seen that speculation on the Yankee forum It certainly would help their cause if that is the case, but I doubt it.
  12. Ok I can't resist. I am not sure about Matusi but I read rumors on the Yankee board that he was smaller earlier this year and his power was gone too. Then his HR power returned, kind of like Giambi only not to the same degree. So the profile would fit of someone who went back on the juice. This is the pattern of Raffy in Baltimore, he was bad early in the year but came on strong after April, now we know why. Sosa, I doubt it. He is hitting .230 if he was on steroids before he is off them this year. Andrew Jones of the Braves, he looked huge when the Braves faced the O's this year he hit a HR over the center field wall that reminded me of the juiced HR Giambi hit off Pedro Martinez in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. As soon as I saw that I thought "steroids". Of course these speculations are usually wrong, but given what we already know one cannot help but wonder when the revelations will come and who will be the next big name.
  13. I'd love to see Manny in an Orioles uniform. He is one of the best hitters I've ever seen and it always seems like he kills the O's. I don't know why he wanted to be traded from Boston but I agree the Red Sox are far better off having not made that trade.
  14. In a way it is bad to speculate, but on the other hand how can one resist thinking about who will be the next big name to be caught for taking steroids. And I have a suspiciion that if strict outside testing is imposed by Congress next year, there will be a huge leap in the number of players who are caught. Because blood tests would detect HGH, which the present program does not. Some players may have merely switched to HGH after they could no longer take steroids, esp. if they were not hitting (or pitching) well in April and May, then they realized their career and reputation would be in jeapordy if they didn't take somethiing. This is what I think happened to Raffy Palmeiro, he was terrible in April, hitting about .200 with no power, and I think he decided to take a chance rather than go out hitting a buck fifty and people saying he was nothing without steroids. The mistake he made was going back on steroids, if he would have switched to HGH he probably wouldn't have been caught. But I am glad he was caught, I don't like cheaters and I hope the Orioles release him.
  15. Sounds like MLB and the players union are trying to make this rumor go away: http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/sports/articles/0811bbreport0811.html Baseball, union try to quash rumors of more failed steroids tests "Faced with a swell that was becoming a storm, Major League Baseball and the Major League Baseball Players Association took what they called an "unusual step" - the sides issued a joint statement Wednesday, with hopes it would quash the rampant speculation. Reports of large numbers of positive tests currently unreported are totally false. Reports of big-name players having the reporting of their test results delayed are totally false," it said. "All drug-testing results are processed in precisely the same manner, and without regard to the identity of any player or to the volume of positives at any given time. These media reports and rumors are totally, and completely inaccurate, and do not deserve further comment," it said. The statement was issued by Rob Manfred, executive vice president for labor relations in the commissioner's office, and Gene Orza, the chief operating officer of the union."
  16. I don't think there are $6 bleacher seats anywhere in baseball, certainly not here in Baltimore. That is impressive that the Red Sox sell out every game, it used to be that way here for awhile about 10 years ago in Camden Yards. The games are more exciting when there are no empty seats, and I suppose that is one advantage of having a smaller park that sells out all the time.
  17. If it's Clemens I wouldn't be surprised, as Canseco named him in his book as likely one who took steroids, based on his build and still having power into his 40's. There is another power pitcher in the AL who has lasted a long time and I am suspicious of him because he fits the profile as described by Canseco of pitchers who are on steroids.
  18. For the regular season games are there ticket sellers standing outside, is scalping allowed outside the park? Will there be playoff tickets available to the public or are they all going to season ticket holders, anyone know the plans? I remember the O's had a mail lottery once I think in 1983.
  19. That's good news, I'm glad they are staying. I understand one reason the Yankees are building the new stadium is that it helps them escape from part of the luxury tax. But I like the history and it will be a shame to see Yankee stadium replaced. From what I've heard there are problems getting seats in Fenway. I drove up once in September 1984 and saw the Sox play in Fenway, at that time it was easy just to walk up the day of the game and buy a ticket. I'm sure it is not so easy now, probably all the games are sold out just like the Baltimore Ravens games.
  20. I've heard that the Yankees will be building a new stadium. A few years ago I heard rumors that the Red Sox would be moving to a new stadium too. Were these plans put on hold or are the Red Sox going to permanantly stay in Fenway? I hope it is the latter, it is a great park.
  21. It was the right thing to do, to cancel the 3000th. And Raffy's agent requested it be cancelled. Raffy comes back today but I don't think he will start. And the word is that he will likely be booed in Baltimore, at least by a sizeable portion of the fans. This is the last year of his contract and I don't expect it will be renewed. He should just retire after this year.
  22. Nothing has changed from this post. And this will be my last post on this thread unless there is some more breaking news about Giambi.
  23. The last post #258 reflects a sick mind, and I think the poster should be banned from this board.
  24. I doubt that Red Sox fans are interested in this BS, Abbott I'll tell you the same thing I told Yanky Dave. if you have nothing to add to the forum then butt out. But to set the record straight, your post is simply not true, I am not disliked on the O's site except by the Yankee loving fans there. I have not started a "Giambi on steroids" thread on the Yankee site, I merely added my opinions to the existing discussions there. Interestingly a large percentage of Yankee fans are suspicious that he is back on the juice. Also I have not posted on other team sites under various names, perhaps you have been looking at the sites and are a littlie paranoid? Probably there are Giambi discussions everywhere like them or not, baseball fans everywhere are suspicious. I heard the suspicions raised on ESPN radio several times and there was that article in the NY Post too. But I agree with Crespo the thread should die for now, until something else comes up on hte Giambi issue I see no need to keep rehashing the same arguments.
  25. I tend to believe Sheffield knew what he was taking. The excuse "I didn't know what I was taking" has been heard so many times and it is almost always false. It is a last resort for those who don't want to admit it, but have been tested positive for steroids. Palmerio used that line when he said he has never knowingly taken steroids, period, last week. I don't believe him and I don't believe Sheffield either.
