  1. Congratulations to the Red Sox from this Orioles fan! I hope that you guys can repeat. The Red Sox coming back from 0-3 last year against the Damn Yankees is one of my favorite all time sports moments. Actually I'll be happy if the White Sox or Angels win too, as long as someone beats the Yankees.
  2. I'm sorry my Orioles couldn't do better against the Yankees, I'd have loved to knock them out of the playoffs. But once again money talks.
  3. And our man Giambi just blasted one out on Eutaw st, the first one this year at Camden Yards. No other batter this year has had the strength to do that until tonight. It really makes me sick that he if he really is back on 'roids or HGH he gets away with it again. I wish Selig would take a stand and ask him to be fully tested to put these rumors to rest. What now a game winning HR in the deciding game against the Sox this year, then later it comes out that he was back on the juice? Are Red Sox fans supposed to accept this again, just like in 2003 when Giambi hit those two HR in game 7 of the ALCS and later admitted he took the Cream and the Clear?
  4. 1B is a priority, so is starting pitching. But the important thing is that Angleos has committed himself to fielding a winner, and his words are so strong that he has put his reputation on the line here. The O's will be a vastly improved team next year.
  5. As an Oriole fan, this has been a tough year. But I am greatly encouraged by the statement that Peter Angelos put out yesterday. Here is the link and a couple of paragraphs, but it is worth reading the full article. I am glad Mr. Angelos has spoken out and promised a bright future, and this was definitely needed at this time in the history of the Baltimore Orioles. http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20050928&content_id=1228076&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb "There is a formidable challenge because of the size of their payrolls," Angelos said about the Yankees and Red Sox. "We would like to compete with them. We lost a couple of very close games to Boston and New York this week, and I think if we would have had our first-rate second baseman [brian Roberts], 40 percent of those games would have been a victory, or perhaps even higher... The Orioles are expected to be active in free agency and Angelos said he does not foresee trouble acquiring attractive free agents. In the past few years, Baltimore has been passed over by premium players for more fruitful contract offers, while others have noted the Orioles' lack of recent success and also the unenviable task of overcoming Boston and New York. "We appreciate the fans' support [during the tough times]," he said. "And we're going to demonstrate our appreciation by winning. I have never heard of a player who refused to come to Baltimore to play when he's been offered a competitive contract. Baltimore is a great baseball town, with great fans, a beautiful ballpark and a good organization. We will get the players necessary to be successful."
  6. I'm an Oriole fan but they are out of the race and I don't want the Yankees to win...so I really won't mind if the Red Sox win this game. Anything to knock the Yankees out of the playoffs....go Sox, Guardians, and White Sox!
  7. I just hope and pray that if Giambi is back on steroids or HGH, that he does not help the Yankees into the World Series like he did two years ago while he was on the juice. The Red Sox deserved to be in that Series take away those two game seven HR's by Giambi in the ALCS and they would have been. And I hope that MLB somehow has strict testing which includes blood tests by next year, so what has happened with Giambi this year can never, ever happen again.
  8. He was on steroids before and hit a lot of HR's. When he got off steroids, he was terrible. Now he is hitting HR's like every night, and seems to have regained the weight and strength he had when he was on steroids. Do you actually believe that the steroids did him no good in 2003? If they did him no good, then that would explain why he could be hitting like this without steroids. But if the steroids indeed did make him a great hitter, then the inevitable conclusion is that he is back on the juice. I read an article recently that a certain substance was prohibited in cycling in 1999, but there was no way of detecting it from urine samples at that time. However now six years later the old uring samples were examined, as the technology now exists to determine if the banned substance is in the urine. And the findings are that a large percentage of those 1999 urine samples did indeed have the banned substance in them. The cyclists knew it could not be detected so they took the drugs, even knowing they were banned. So I believe it is with MLB. Human Growth Hormone cannot be detected at this time through urine samples, only with blood samples, which are not being taken in MLB. I believe it is quite possible that GIambi and certain other players are on HGH. If blood testing is initiated next year I anticipate a big drop in Giambi's stats.
  9. Sometimes you can make a judgement based upon circumstancial evidence. Even in court this is sometimes enough to convict. The circumstancial evidence points to Giambi is back on the juice. He was a great hitter two years ago while on steroids. He turned into a total bum without them early in the season. Then in July suddenly regains his strength and size and starts blasting HR's again. Once people start raising questions, he goes into a slump in August. Then down the home stretch he turns it on again and looks like The Natural out there. I just don't buy it.
  10. I'd say the odds are that he is back on something. It may not be steroids, it may be HGH (human growth hormone). This is illegal in MLB but it is not tested for, it can only be detected through blood tests which are not given. Only urine samples are taken. And there are stories about these being switched, etc. I believe that a number of players are still on either steroids with some kind of masking agent, or HGH. This is why I hope Congress takes over the testing next year. Once a hall of famer like Eckersley raises the question, it is hard to pretend that it is only a few fans who are talking about this issue. If Giambi is back on the juice, this infuriates me that he thinks he can get away with it again.
  11. Right just shut up about it. Forget about it. Just look the other way like everyone did two years ago when Giambi hit two HRs in game 7 of the ALCS, which later turned out to be steorid induced.
  12. I see that Giambi hit the game winning HR in a 1-0 Yankees victory today. It really makes me sick to think that he is quite possibly back on steroids or HGH and is getting away with it again! I really wish that the commissioner had the power to order individual players in for testing.
  13. Sosa has never admitted to taking steroids in the past. Giambi has. If Sosa were on steroids and providing them to Roberts then Sosa wouldn't would not have hit .220 with 15 HR in 2005. No, neither one of them is taking steroids. The fact is that no player in the history of baseball has been so bad at the beginning of the year as Giambi then had such a strong July. Then a "slump" just when the steroid talk was growing rampant about him, and now that the "Giambi back on steroids" talk dies down, he starts hitting again. Just seems a little suspicious. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
  14. I don't think he'll be back with the Orioles next year, so this would not surprise me too much.
  15. I see Giambi hit another game winning HR last night. I might be a cynic, but his pattern this year just seems quite suspicious to me. At the beginning of the year, he was terrible, .200 hitter with no power. Then he suddenly starts hitting like Babe Ruth reincarnated, with tremendous power and high average, ties all time Yankee record for HR's in July Talk of his being back on steroids grows everywhere, and he suddenly goes into a slump, the Giambi back on steroids talk ends. Now with the home stretch coming and the Yankees fighting for a playoff, Giambi starts blasting HR's again.
  16. Sir Sidney seems to be having worse problems this year, I think his drinking is getting out of hand and that probably is why his performance on the field has deteriorated too. I hope he cac turn his`life around like Dennis Martinez did.
  17. NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH NAH SEY HEY, GOODBYE/
  18. That's what I think may have happened. That would explain a lot, the rumors, the inside source. Just when the positive test was going to be made public it was overturnd on appeal.
  19. Well the White Sox will likely make it this year, and the Cubs almost made the World Series a couple of years ago. But the real question is not whether some teams can spend their money unwisely, of course they can. But if you look at the payroll link, you will see that the upper part of the payroll rankings correlates with winning. And those at the bottom of payroll, with losing. I'd rather just eliminate the payroll effect altogether, by going to a salary cap.
  20. The steps are not enought. Even if the Royals' owner Glass put every cent of money from the Revenue sharing back into the Royals, their payroll would be about 25% of the Yankees. The Yankees revenues dwarf the small market teams. I'm sick of seeing the Yankees signing free agents like Giambi and Mussina and obtaining international stars through their money (matsui) and obtaining other players through money tainted "trades" (Johnson, A-Rod). If there was an even playing field, the Yankees could sink to the basement, where they were before free agency began in 1977. The Yankees were in the bottom half of the league during the 1965-74 . That was a period of true free competition. Then the Yankees started buying free agents like Reggie Jackson and Catfish Hunter and baseball has never been the same. Under the present flawed system the Yankees have made the playoffs 10 years in a row. The NY Yankees will never finish last under the present system. No way the Royals could ever make the playoffs 10 years in a row, or even two years in a row, given their lack of revenue in comparison to the big market teams. This is a shame, the Royals had a proud history with George Brett's teams of the late 70's and early 80's.
  21. Below are some samples from team payroll stats, and the link to all teams. The Yankees have made the playoffs 10 years in a row, and fans from other cities like KC now feel their team has no chance, the deck is stacked against them. A large part of the competitive advantage the Yankees have is due to their advantages in revenue. These disparities in team payroll should not continue. Teams like KC and the D Rays have no shot at all. Baseball needs to impose a salary cap like the NFL, or have total revenue sharing. It is no wonder that the NFL is now more popular than MLB. http://asp.usatoday.com/sports/baseball/salaries/totalpayroll.aspx?year=2005 New York Yankees $ 208,306,817 Boston Red Sox $ 123,505,125 New York Mets $ 101,305,821 Baltimore Orioles $73914,333 Kansas City Royals $ 36,881,000 Tampa Bay Devil Rays $ 29,679,067
  22. They need to move the mound back or something if a pitcher can strike out every hitter. I can't help but wonder how old he is too, there have been scandals before about overage pitchers in the little league.
  23. Look at this point I don't think Damon or Clemens has tested positive. MLB put out the word that they haven't and if it now turns out they have, then who will ever believe MLB again? It is also possible that someone initially tested positive, then the rumors started, but the players appealed and they were granted relief, their appeals were deemed to have merit for some reason.
  24. Man, 4 homers in one inning off the Big Unit! I never thought I'd see that. This is not good news for the Yankees going down the stretch. I wonder if this will shake RJ's confidence. I cannot even remember a pitcher giving up 4 in one inning before!
  25. The three Yankee names I listed have been mentioned more often than any others that I have seen on the talk forums. This is likely because Kay said "hall of famer" and "would break your heart", I don't see how any other Yankee would meet that criteria as closely as these three...
