    Well if you want to nitpik, why would you pinch run Millar for Stern ( I think is faster ).

    Being a Rule V player, we can't send him down, without losing him ( unless IR'd ). Yet, he really didn't cost us anything to begin with. You're normally not going to use him as a "defensive " replacement, not with our starters, Gabe, and Cruz. This means that in most cases he's a pich runner. Consequently, you've just : taken out a better bat ( but a slow runner ) and probably another bench player to play in the field. My point being that when you use this kid, you're doing it in a pivital point in the game and sacrificing two bench players ( our bench is rather weak crrently ) and decreasing your offensive and defensive capabilities ( especially if the game continues ).

    Yea, I think the concern is the total innings pitched. He was a reliever in college, and they have been trying to gradually stretch him out. But can , and I think will be, valuable during the stretch run, as well as, next year and thereafter.

    Keeping O-Cab was never really an option for the Sox. Renteria wasan is a much better overall player.

    Maybe I'm being a little harsh, but after hearing how fast this kid was and how we have to protect him I expected a little more. I'd also be alot more forgiving if it was early in the season, because we'd still have time to adjust. But this is the stretch run. I can live with the weak bat somewhat because of our overall power. It's the key insertions as pinch runner that have hurt. You're probably right that he may adjust. But can we keep him on the roster for two more months just to protect him ? Is there any way he can "pull a hammy " an be IR'd with rehab again ?

    Speed is always good. But I'm afraid we all got a little spoiled with the success of Dave Roberts. Unfortunately, the Sox ,in the past, have had a tendency to go with the "designated speed guy" . This was a guy with "speed" that was supposed to be inserted in an obvious base stealing situation, at least advance the extra base on a single, and score from first on a gapper. It almost never worked out.

    This is true, but the kid doesn't have the goods. Why waste a roster spot to protect someone who just doesn't have it. Maybe, some day he will but how many lost opportunities and games is he going to cost us ?

    Personally, I think the Adam Stern experiment should end soon. He's supposed strength was his speed / base running ability. Well, je's been either picked-off or thrown out on at least three occasions. This is not acceptable. Also he's done squat with the bat. Overall, not ready for prime time.
