  1. Oki's gotten to the point where Tito needs to have him start an inning with a guy warming already.
  2. You were serious with that 3/41 comment yesterday? I thought you were joking. FTR, going into last night he was 10 for his last 40 with both of his homers.
  3. Getting demoted is a confidence booster?
  4. Been to Duke's or Moose's yet, Jacko? Ahh, many a drunken night on Lewers St.
  5. 7-3 on that home stand. WAH!!! They didn't go 10-0. WAH!!
  6. They have been a controlled substance for quite some time. The memo is a blanket statement about the use of controlled substances. You could say the league disallowed their use, but most people would disagree and point to the 2003/2004 timeframe as when the league really addressed the issue.
  7. Prior to 2003/2004, the rules didn't ban the use of steroids. Sure, Giamatti sent out a memo in 1991 (ish) stating the league didn't condone the use of controlled substances, but the league never took proactive action prior to that offseason. You chose to address my question with a rhetorical one, but you avoided a response. Prior to PED testing, they were within the rules, are you OK with what they did? Or do you arbitrarily draw the line on what is acceptable within the "whatever it takes" mentality at another point along the path?
  8. It isn't, and I didn't compare them. I pointed to the slippery slope where using the defense of "whatever it takes" can lead. Once you start down that path, it, like this discussion, is a matter of opinion where it ends.
  9. In this case, many people do, you just aren't one of them. Move on, you aren't changing anyone's mind.
  10. I think one of the appeals of baseball, as "America's Pastime", is that winning AT ALL COSTS isn't the central ethos of the sport. Playing the game the "right way" and playing with honor are important, important enough that doing "whatever it takes" is frowned upon in instances like this. The unwritten rules of baseball are things that bring a certain degree of honor to the game, and I understand why so many baseball traditionalists get upset as subsequent generations foul the traditions of the past in the quest to achieve victory regardless of the path taken to get there. This is one of those unwritten rules that I hope never dies. An extension of "whatever it takes" leads to the use of steroids before the league banned them. Is everyone that is OK with bunting to break up a perfecto also OK with what Bonds, McGuire, Canseco, et al did?
  11. Jeff Niemann smokes pole for a nickel.
  12. You know what would be cool? If you could program Gameday to say crummy things about the teams you want to lose, even if they are doing well. Gabe Kapler licks choda while wearing an adult diaper. One out.
  13. No, he's awful. Rhet has seen him play consistently for 5 full weeks, and that's all he needs.
  14. I'd suggest a history lesson before you are so quick to dismiss Dutchy/Imperial/Chamomile. You are very quick to defend Jacko, but he too has been banned twice. If you are tolerant of Jacko's antics, and Chamomile's aren't much different, then I'd suggest an "equal protection" policy, for the sake of fairness.
  15. You got that? I thought I might have dated myself with that one.
  16. Not for Richard Pryor it isn't.
  17. Not true, his vagina has grit, from the sand and all.
  18. That was a "careless" steal, because JD Drew just doesn't care enough about the outcome of the game.
  19. f***ing Drew, and his not-making-outs-ness.
  20. Not enough bitching..... WAH! For posterity's sake.
  21. Mary Lincoln agrees.
  22. Mikey doing "the Lowell".
  23. Two runs with only one hit. Das must have a stiffy.
  24. Since things have started well.... WAH!! I don't want the place to get dry on whine.
