  2. I remember reading somewhere that if you put the '00 Pedro on an NL team in that timeframe on Diamond Mind, that he comes up with a sub-1 era. Pedro of '97-'00 is the Everest of pitching, IMO.
  3. Jacko, you are straight full of s***. No other way to describe it. One of your first criticisms of the Sox system when you joined was a lot of top prospects below AA, and according to you nothing really mattered until AA. Of course, this was all before you decided to subscribe to scout.com and have a daily jerk session while perusing the Yankee section. You've done a full 180 from your own dictum, and it hasn't just been for Betances. You are doing it for all of them. Care to explain?
  4. I doubt they'll get to '03 level performance too, but they may get close. Manny missed a month, RF production was nowhere near what Drew is capable of, SS too, and Crisp and Tek had epic career-low seasons. Everything fell right in '03, and if it does this year, I can easily see them scoring 925+ runs. And, while the BP looks like '03 going into the year, I think the rotation looks much better, and the defense looks better too. They may score a few less, but I think they'll prevent more than the difference at the plate. The differential matters more than the production.
  5. I thought he was another BH Board refugee. Actually, I think he's TheRiv, but that's another story.
  6. Oh, you're a pessimist alright. I suspect that is why Jacko follows you around from Sox board to Sox board. He eats it up when a Sox fan is disgruntled at the FO. It's like....high-f***ing-tea, for him.
  7. Who should they have signed this year? I don't like flinging crap against the wall while hoping for it to appear artistic, but there weren't any studs out there. The mistake was last year when they let BJ Ryan change teams within the division without making a run at him.
  8. I know what your point is, and it completely ignores the relationship between stuff and workload. SPs need to conserve energy and can't ramp it up as often as RPs. This is common knowledge. Pineiro's OPS against was below league average over the last three years for pitches 1-30, then he became a BP pitcher. That screams move to the bull-pen. And, his performance in pitches 1-30 was with the mindset of conserving energy.
  9. No chance those two are related, huh? He's a project for sure. That said, there's no telling how a change in role will affect his stuff until we see how he's throwing as a reliever.
  10. It's the other way around Jacko, and you know it. He doesn't need to learn the league. The scouting is there. The holes in hitters' swings are known. He just needs to hit his spots. The hitters need to learn him. That was why Nomo was so good his first year. He had no pitch the league had never seen before. They just hadn't seen it from him. It's common knowledge that in a first-time matchup, where advance scouting has been done, that the advantage lies with the pitcher due to the action/reaction relationship. Stop trying to redefine conventional wisdom just because the guy in question isn't wearing pinstripes.
  11. I proved the necessary edit to make the statement accurate.
  12. I know what you meant, it just sounded funny the way you worded it.
  13. The 1.4 is aggregate for his whole time in AAA which started off rocky. By the time he was called up, he was deserving and the Sox were in need of help. That was unquestionably the right move. You'll have show you can stave off your ignorance before you start making sense.
  14. What are you talking about? Lester's trend in WHIP, you know - baserunners, prior to last year was 1.38, 1.32, 1.15. Last year was the worst he's ever been. It was also the year where he got diagnosed with cancer, and he showed significantly less velocity than scouting reports touted (hint: It's easier to hit the ball, and the pitcher has to nibble more, when he can't throw it as hard). As long as he stays in remission, I expect his ability and maturation to make him a solid front of the rotation starter. That said, he needs all of this year and probably the begining of next to hone his game in AAA.
  15. I forgot all about the custom titles. Now I feel cheated. Custom titles were given away to the winner of the fantasy baseball league, but I didn't get it for winning the football league. That's being sportcist. You anti-pigskinites.
  16. Funniest post of the new year. Doubt it gets beat.
  17. Is this blasphemy?
  18. They ran for 190+ yds and Manning had time to find open routes all game. That O-Line was the MVP in my book.
  19. Take out the curve and leave it dangling, and the fun continues. For example: "Eye high hanging balls must be....." And yes, the use of dangling was intentional.
