  1. Brentz has had a really good year, especially relative to any expectations coming in after last year. I'm excited to see what he looks like next year in Portland, where he'll face more age appropriate competition (he's 22 this year). Low A, Greenville - .359/.414/.647, 11 HR High A, Salem - .250/.313/.540, 15 HR Jacobs has shown some good tools this year in a age appropriate level (he's 20). Low A, Greenville - .315/.398/.515, 14 HR, 26 SB Xander Bogaerts has shown some really good pop for an 18 y/o playing in the middle of the field (SS). Low A, Greenville - .235/.306/.497, 12 HR in only 183 AB Miles Head has looked really good (20 y/o) Low A, Greenville - .338/.409/.612, 15 HR High A, Salem - .253/.319/.387, 3 HR All these guys put themselves on the radar this year. It's been a rough year on the pitching side, though.
  2. Those sunglasses don't hide his last year and a half. His last 5/6 starts? Please, his tenure with the Sox inspires no reason for confidence heading toward October.
  3. Oh, he'd piss, but he'd do it all over himself....on the mound. In other words, a normal day at the ballpark for him.
  4. Wrong.
  5. Where's the Prez, and will he defend this stinker? This is a historically bad offensive baseball team. Just flat dreadful....and they are fisting Lackey like they are the 2003 Sox.
  6. Or, it could be that he was bored with the level of competition.
  7. True, but you are omitting something. From a money perspective, which is really what this is about, as success on the field translates into money (fans in the seats, demand for NESN, bonus playoff revenues), it has been more. You've got the one for one (championships), but all those additional chances over the next 9 years, the ones you are casually throwing away, represent earnings in money through fielding a competitive team (just not championships...yet). This isn't a binary system.
  8. Right, and the justification made by some for not grabbing a title in 2006 was that they would win in the subsequent 10 years with those guys. That has happened. Period.
  9. You've got that legitimate UZR issue way wrong in terms of this discussion. UZR over a 3 year period gives you a more accurate assessment of a player's defensive ability than a 1 year sample does. However, we are only talking about this year. In terms of a one year MVP discussion, UZR is fine as a snapshot for how they played that year and that year alone, but it has little predictive value about future years. The numbers stand for this year.
  10. I see what you did there, Scutaro and Aviles both at 2B. Even so, combined, they aren't as good as Pedroia.
  11. So frequently? Sure, from 1999 - 2004, where they met 3 times in 6 years. But, they haven't met in the playoffs since then.
  12. Normalized strikezone on called pitches for the game (both teams).... http://www.brooksbaseball.net/pfxVB/cache/zoneplot.php-pitchSel=all&game=gid_2011_08_09_bosmlb_minmlb_1&sp_type=1&s_type=7.gif Big ole boatload of green triangles either inside or touching the zone boundary, most of which were thrown by Bedard.
  13. I don't know if Varitek is Bedard's caddy for good, but I think it makes sense to let a new pitcher break in with his new team in the middle of the season with an experienced catcher.
  14. Large Father!
  15. The ball is absolutely dancing for Wake early.
  16. No doubt. What does he want for dinner tonight?
