  1. Easy now, Adolf. What has my reaction to this news been?
  2. Two, guess what that rhymes with?
  3. Marco!
  4. It's painted, and this, THIS, is my reward for finishing? Boo.
  5. Booooooo. Boo.
  6. While the summary of the trades is correct, would you trade a pitcher like Arroyo right now for a 1st round draft pick in the 2014 draft? Let's not forget, 4 full seasons have passed since they traded Arroyo.
  7. So, what you are saying is, despite Beltre being the superior defender now, that doesn't count against Lowell because he was better in the past......this being in a discussion about who will be better....now. Really? Then, to the other point, Dipre is saying the park will have some impact on the offensive numbers, making them roughly equivalent. He's right. Aside from his very good '07, Lowell has been about a 105 OPS+ hitter in Boston, and Beltre has a career 105 OPS+.
  8. I read perfectly fine, which is why I focussed on the following sentence. The fact that you regard that split as "insane" is immaterial when in the following sentence you state a belief that the insanity will continue, even if it's in a diminished capacity. But, hey, insanity seems to reside in the same zip code as most of your thoughts, so that might explain things.
  9. While I'm a proponent of them going after Holliday, both because he's the superior player and because of the potential to improve their drafting position, they need to be careful here. I doubt Boras lets Holliday sign before Bay, and they run the risk of ending up with neither if Holliday is the last one there with the Yankees still needing an OF.
  10. I never said it wasn't flawed. It's flaws are well known and acknowledged by the guy who created the stat. Speaking of flaws, do you not see the massive flaw in your primary reasoning as to why he had a better year this year? You are creditting his improvement to Teixeira saving him from errors. The UZR is broken down into a Range and Error component. His Error component did improve when Giambi became the regular DH (this improvement occurred before Teixeira was on the team). However his range component improved this year. He reportedly spent the entire offseason working primarily on improving his range. According to the metric, he did just that. He also stole 30 bases this year, a massive improvment from the previous two years, which lends additional credence to improved foot speed from his training. You aren't reading the components of the stat correctly, which isn't surprising. Therefore, you don't get anything meaningful from it due to your skull density.
  11. Agreed. Plus, it's not like the stats, at least the ones in this case, defensive stats, are devoid of observational data. UZR is a play by play stat. They review each chance by each fielder, note where the player is positioned before the pitch, note how hard the ball was hit, and then award/deduct points from the player's total based on how often that play is made by an average fielder. It is watching the games. It's watching them with the focus solely on what it is attempting to measure. I'll agree, there is some subjectivity there, but I have more faith that the people contributing to the metric have more focus on what they are attempting to measure than the guy chugging beers in the bleachers. So, in the end, when this stat says Jeter had a better year than previous years, I'll trust it, because I'll eat my shoe before I believe Gom had the same focus, not to mention that he recorded his observations and conducted a tally at the end of the season.
  12. So are you also to blame for the failures of GM because your cab is a Chevy?
  13. He doesn't have to talk to them. My money is on this being the result of a domestic dispute, one that he doesn't want to broadcast, as anything he tells the police is public information.
  14. Watchezz teh gameezzz. Is there anything more trite than this statement in arguments amongst baseball fans?
  15. This, because Jacko is very wrong in stating that WHIP is almost exclusively controlled by pitchers. Usually the biggest component of WHIP is H/IP, and that is very dependent on defense, which for minor leaguers is often much worse than it will be for MLB pitchers. The main weakness of FIP (for minor leaguers), IMO, is that the HR/9 component will be lower than it would be against MLB hitters, who have filled out their bodies and hit more balls over the fence. Therefore, the FIP needs to looked at relative to peers, both past and present.
  16. I wouldn't mind if my NFL team picked up Julio Jones. Kid's a hell of a target.
  17. Personal insult, when you can't debate the accuracy of the point, as per usual. True to form.
  18. Do you really think they'd offer him arbitration?
  19. No, type B free agents don't cost the signing team a pick. They do award the team that lost the player a pick in the supplemental round.
