  9. Chen, Orioles out to stop losing streak New York (92-64) at Baltimore (70-86), 7:05 p.m. ET The Orioles were handed their season-high ninth straight loss Monday as Jason Giambi's three-run homer off Rodrigo Lopez catapulted the Yankees to an 11-3 win. The O's have been outscored 60-35 during the streak and are 0-8 in this stretch of games with the Yankees and Red Sox. They have three more matchups with the Yankees, including Tuesday night when Bruce Chen tries to earn his 13th win. Chen appeared headed to a sparkling outing last Thursday at Yankee Stadium, but he allowed a three-run homer to Jorge Posada in the sixth inning and ended up with the loss. However, Chen has been the most consistent pitcher this season for the Orioles and has likely cemented a spot on the 2006 staff. Right-hander Mike Mussina came of the disabled list last Thursday and tossed six innings, allowing just one unearned run in the Yankees' 7-6 win in the Bronx. Mussina would be slated to pitch in a possible playoff-deciding game against Boston on Sunday. Mussina is second on the club in strikeouts and issued just 46 walks. The Orioles offense has produced just 13 home runs in September, one more than Toronto for the fewest in the Major Leagues. Sunday was the first multihomer game for the O's since Sept. 1. If the Orioles finish the season without a 30-homer player, it was be the third time in the past six years that has occurred. Miguel Tejada leads the team with 26. Pitching matchup BAL: LHP Bruce Chen • 12-10, 3.60 ERA in 2005 • 1-1, 5.40 ERA vs. NYY in 2005 NYY: Mike Mussina • 13-8, 4.20 ERA in 2005 • 1-0, 1.54 ERA vs. BAL in 2005 Quick hits Eddie Rogers socked his first Major League home run on Monday, a two-run shot to left field off Alan Embree. Rogers was hitless in three at-bats in 2005. ... The Yankees announced Monday that Aaron Small will start on Thursday. Small earned his ninth win, allowing four runs in five innings on Sept. 20 against the Orioles. ... Rodrigo Lopez finished the season 1-3 with a 6.18 ERA against the Yankees this season.

  12. best offense: edgar is coming around more with hitting 2 doubles (first one wouldve been a HR if not for the wind) and he scored 2 of the 3 runs--david ortiz got 2 RBIs to run his total to the majors leading 142---Manny with his 136th RBI--Damon had gotten the game off with a single to start the 1st inning runs dishonorable mention: Trot Nixon, Bill Mueller, John Olerud and Doug Mirabelli going a combined 0-13 with 1 walk and 4 Ks best defense: Alex f***ing cora with his game ending dive --Bill Mueller doing his campaign for 3rd base gold glove award, John Olerud providing defense at 1st, Manny's underhanded eyes closed catch--and yes i know edgar got his 30th error, but still it didnt look like he shouldve been given that, he was still playing clean D for the whole game best pitching: our ace and game 1 of the playoffs starter Tim Wakefield going 7 strong innings with 1 unearned run on 3 hits, 1 walk, and 6 Ks---he now leads the team in wins (16), innings pitched, ERA (3.96), strikeouts (150)---Jonathan Papelbon is our 8th inning man, even with runners on corners and 1 out he kept his cool and got the last 2 outs---Timlin delivered a 12 pitch inning to close the door and earn his 12th save of the season

  17. Dont despair sox fans, here's some positive thoughts In need of good news this morning? Consider: After facing David Bush (31.50 ERA at Fenway) this afternoon, the Red Sox face three lefthanded Toronto starters in Gustavo Chacin (12-9, 3.66 ERA), Ted Lilly (9-11, 5.72 ERA), and Scott Downs (4-3, 4.35 ERA). Opposing lefties, in 23 starts at Fenway this season, are 5-10 with a 6.59 ERA. The Sox have won their last nine games in the Fens against lefty starters, last losing was back on July 18 to Tampa Bay's Scott Kazmir. Lefthanded slugger David Ortiz leads all Sox hitters vs. lefty starters at Fenway in average (.383), home runs (4), and RBIs (13).

  20. its still a 5 days wait for him, would 15 or 20 extra pitches really make him hittable for saturday's game

  22. just one quick question for the yankee fans, isnt this considered as a jinx? these are already on sale online: http://shop.mlb.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2114173 falls in the lines with teh sox who had put the world series emblem behind home plate during game 7 of a playoff series couple of years ago
  23. Boston hands down has to win each game vs the Blue Jays to be tied with NY--This Orioles bunch is just a sad bunch of players, i noticed it during the 3 game serie we just had against them. they really cant wait for the season to end. Need to look and learn from the d-rays, at least they are playing for pride
