  1. You want to say Arroyo has been more inconsistant than Wakefield? I love Wake guys, but come on - he is the dictionary definition of inconsistant. And in all the criticism in here of what I said, I haven't found anyone giving any reasons that the pen even NEEDS Arroyo. What's he going to contribute? Set-up? No... Timlin is doing just fine, and Mantai I think will end up ok given some more time. The real trouble is Foulke and Embree... and Arroyo won't be replacing Foulke. We need a hard throwing lefty in the pen to replace Embree... Arroyo won't provide that. At least Wakefield can confuse batters in long/middle relief by completely changing what they are used to swinging at. Arroyo would be WASTED in the pen... I'd rather see Timlin-Mantai in late innings than Arroyo, and if he's only going to be the longman, what a waste. Nope, I don't like him in the pen folks. Matt
  2. Tek can get his days off without Wakefield. Its called, "taking days off". Matt
  3. Exactly - which was one of the reasons he said he has zero interest in the yankees. Its probably true he won't retire (it was more a statement about wanting to come back to Boston than anything), but I think #30 on his list of teams he would go to is New York. Matt
  4. I wasn't afraid of saying f***ing - if you read my other posts, I swear quite a bit actually... that particular post though, I just felt like using some variations for the sake of being linguistically original. If it makes you feel better - f***ity f*** f***. And Steinbrenner wanting Damon is pretty irrelevant - I don't care who he is, nobody gets what they want all the time, and I think its pretty damned clear Damon is uninterested in the Yankees. Kotsay might not be Damon, but he's certainly very good, and can give the Yankees come very good defense, some speed, and a good top of the order presence. Much better than Bernie or Matsui in center... Matt
  5. He just came back from the DL, correct? Matt
  6. Contender? Christ I hope its a friggin' guarentee. Matt
  7. Dude, you're lucky. Up here in Maine on WZON they zapped the boston broadcast and put on ESPN radio... so not only was I denied Remy... I couldn't listen to any "WAY BACK, WAAAAAAAAY BACK... HOME RUN" either. Friggin hell on earth I have to tell you... watching the team you love pull off some of the wildest s*** ever in the playoffs and being FORCED to listen to two men with the intelligence of infants talk to me about baseball. God how I missed actual intellectual stimulation. Say what you want, Remy and Don talk baseball, and they don't talk down to the dumbest fans... they talk up to the smartest fans (which teaches the dumb fans a few things)... its such a joy to listen to that. ::sigh:: Matt
  8. I have no clue why anyone wants Arroyo in the pen. I know the bullpen is weak, but Arroyo is a hell of a lot more consistant as a starting pitcher than Wake is. I don't think Arroyo would be that helpful in the pen other than long relief/middle relief (what we really need is a hard throwing lefty to replace embree). Personally, I want the rotation to look like this: Schilling Clement Wells Miller Arroyo I just don't get the move of Arroyo to the pen... I would personally much rather have him starting. Matt
  9. Yeah, but Damon has publically said he wants to resign with the Red Sox... and if he didn't he might effing RETIRE. He has (according to him) zero interest in signing with the Yankees... and given the Yankees interest in Kotsay, I'm pretty sure they won't be going after him. Talk about your Apples and frickin' Oranges. Matt
  10. Sorry guy - but you need a hell of a lot more than that to be an elite team again. Matt
  11. And the two of them together? Sweet Jesus... As odd as it sounds, I don't look forward to seeing the sox in the playoffs - because I'll have to listen to those to cocks (and don't even get me started on "scooter")... I mean I REALLY hate those two. Matt
  12. If you are ever in doubt to how spoiled we are announcer wise, just listen to a game with that dick McCarver and his idiot sidekick Joe Buck. ::shudder:: I hate those two more than anything. Matt
  13. Don't count them out... don't forget the Astros last year... sounds like they are looking to aquire Kotsay... I think that would help 'em out quite a bit - if for no other reason than to get some energy/youth/speed/defense on the team. Certainly no Beltran deal, but I think it could be a big help. Matt
  14. You're insane dude - Dunn is going to be making some SERIOUS bank in a little while. Overpriced players aren't solutions, especially when they have huge holes in their game (like incredible K ratio). I don't want him, and I can pretty much guarantee neither does Theo. Matt
  15. That's why Millar drives me absolutely f***ing up the wall. I would LOVE to see Youkilis play first, because I believe he is a much more consistant baseball player offensively and defensively, and inconsistancies piss me off. You know, this might sound stupid, but seeing Millar go on a 20 for 25 hitting spree pisses me off to no end, because you know directly before, and directly after he will be peppered with 0 for 20's. Inconsistancies make me very very mad. Matt
  16. True - but isn't that part of the reason we hate the Yankees, and New Yorkers in general? The "better than you" nose in the air ******** attitude? I just don't feel like becoming a bitch like them... I'm more interested in REVELING in my own team's success... Matt
  17. I understand - but none the less... do you think he'd strike out 170 times in a year? Bring him up I say - see how he responds. Matt
  18. Well, not this year... but I think he'd be good value to go get a "missing peice" in a year or two, and that would allow Hanley to take over as the starting SS. Never say never on trades... who REALLY thought Theo was going to pull the trigger on Nomar last year? It really wouldn't shock me if Renteria was moved in a year or two. Matt
  19. Hey, the great Derek Jeter went what, 0-32 last year? I know it was 0 for 30 something... He'll be fine... but he'll also be going back down when Mirabelli comes back from his injury. Actually, I am not sure on this - how long is Mirabelli's contract? I know originally Shoppach was being groomed to replace Varitek (which will now be 4 years from now)... I'd have to assume if we are going to keep Shoppach we'd want to get him up to the bigs to at least back up Tek for a couple years. Matt
  20. It is a tad rediculous - did you guys watch all the Baseball tonight nonsense before the year bagan? I vividly remember John Kruk stating emphatically that Randy Johnson would win 30 games and the Yankees would annihilate the entire league. Then, when they were like 12-20 or whatever, he pronounced they were too old, an aweful team, and would barely make it to .500 for the year. THEN, when they won 8 of 10 or whatever they did, he (I can still remember his sad, pathetic voice freaking out) proclaimed THE YANKEES ARE BACK and are "too good" not to win the division and dominate the AL. Now they are struggling again, and he is back on the "they're not too good" bandwagon. I have learned that I know about as much about baseball as these douchebags, and that I am MUCH less apt to jump the gun and form an opinion over the course of a week regarding a baseball team. Furthermore, I have a lot more teams to think and learn about than the Yankees... and when they go through a bad stretch or a good stretch, I don't care any more or less than I would about another team. And, perhaps I'm alone on this - but I don't even care to Yankee bash much. The Yankee obsession I find a tad antiquated, especially after winning the WS last year. All the hate I had for the Yankees was jealous rage... now they are just another team to me. I still dislike them, I still want them to fail, I still get geared up for a series with them, and I want to beat them more than other teams. But you won't find me turning random conversations into Yankee bashing threads. That's not a statement about anything I've read here, just a "for the record" kind of thing to let you guys know what I'm like since I'm new. Matt
  21. http://49ers.ipbhost.com/style_emoticons/default/laughing1.gif That's great... and happens to be true. Matt
  22. He lives out there... that's also where he has trainers and such... if he feels more comfortable there, go for it I say. Now in regard to the Sox, Schilling and its effect on our record... obviously a healthy Schill is an upgrade to the staff, but I consider the real problem the inconsistant bullpen. I still have faith in Foulke, but Embree I think is going to struggle all year. I think the pen needs to be fixed for us to compete for the division... I think if that happens we could make do even if Schilling doesn't come back at all. I consider our rotation very strong even without him. Matt
  23. Luckily you didn't miss much today... Matt
  24. I don't think we should waste a trade on replacing Bellhorn. If Pedroia is ready I say get him up here... if he isn't, I can wait around this year with Bellhorn for next year. But pulling off a trade to replace Bellhorn I think would waste our trade chips with Pedroia sitting there just waiting to beat out Bellhorn. Besides, I personally would prefer a few more homegrown players on the team. Matt
  25. What do you have against Sabermetrics? I (and the Sox GM) happen to put a lot of faith in those theories. Matt
