  1. Actually its more likely a combination of batting after Johnny (pressure of a baserunner on - less changeups, more fastballs, fewer breaking pitches) and batting in front of Ortiz/Manny (not wanting to walk him and face that 2 headed monster - more strikes). I think the latter has more to do with it. More strikes = better chance to get a hit. Anyone in the 2 hole should bat better than they would in the 8 or 9 hole. Matt
  2. Why wouldn't he be? He's almost 22 NOW, he was drafted out of college (and college kids move up WAAAAAAAAAAAY faster than high school kids) and he's lighting the minors on fire. There is no question in my mind he'll be ready for the start of next year. Matt
  3. You're kidding right? He's hitting under .200 at fenway because we're giving him a hard time? Oh boy... Matt

  5. Tough guy? He looks like my hamster Maggie. Have you looked at Tek - he's built like a f***ing oak tree. He is one of the LAST people in baseball I'd want to get in a fight with. Matt
  6. Well, I think Wang is servicable (5th starter)... wouldn't really call him "solid". I think he's overperforming right now, and even so he's not really dazzling. I do like Cano though... you guys trade him and you're f***ing insane. Matt
  7. You know - its funny - I post on a lot of message boards for sports teams... and NONE of them have opposing fans regularly posting on them. Its just one of those really weird things about sox boards. Matt
  8. Wow - you can say that again. I too have worked at a ton of summer camps, I've worked for a counseling center, all that jazz... and you wouldn't believe the parents that see their kids as a burden. THAT is the sad thing... not the child's disability... its if the parent doesn't view their child as a child, only a problem. Matt
  9. Rings = great team, not great catcher. Check the last 100 WS winners and tell me how many have had GREAT catchers (hint: not that many). Having a ring doesn't make Posada a great catcher... christ, the backup catcher gets a ring too... does that make him great if he has 4 rings? You're going to have to come up with something OTHER than "rings" if you want to talk about how great a player is. If you want to talk about how great a team is/was - fine, we can have a chat about rings... but not individual players. Matt
  10. I think that's a very good idea. He is being groomed to be a future closer... he does have great stuff. He could certainly help. But we still need a lefty. Matt
  11. The Yankees should be learning from Cano and Wang - it is better to have homegrown talent than expensive free agents. The key to trimming your payroll, improving chemistry, and building a long-term successful franchise is a strong farm system. The sox learned that a while back, and have gone from one of the worst farm systems in baseball to a really good one... and will soon be an exceptional system. Matt
  12. Indeed... but I see Hanley's potential to be an elite shortstop in the mold of Nomar in his prime, and I really want to see that... and I'd hate for him to switch positions or wait longer to get to the bigs. But, I suppose we shall see. Maybe I'll eat my hat if he takes over for Damon in center if Damon walks. I just see his potential as a superstar at short... but being "pretty good" in center. Know what I mean? I mean offensively he'd be measured against other outfielders if he played in center... but if he was measured against other middle infielders he'd be a phenom. Whatever. Matt
  13. You shouldn't consider it sad - people with special needs (as much as I hate political correctness) should not be the subject of pity and sadness, but rather understanding. It certainly is unfortunate she has the difficulties she has... but you should feel happy that she has such a wonderful father. Matt
  14. I've worked at a lot of places where I've worked with kids with special needs... and I tell you, its not easy. But to be honest, its true that the more time you spend around them, the more you think of them as a special gift, and less as an "inconvenience" or what have you. But it certainly is difficult. But I can only imagine having a child with special needs. He certainly must have a very selfless personality. Matt
  15. Exactly - we already have 6 starters... we need bullpen help much more. Matt
  16. Well ditto for me, I like him too. But then again, I loved Nomar, but his being traded strengthened the team in much the same way I am talking about. If you add to that a phenom coming up at short to replace him, I don't see the downside. Matt
  17. Heh - better idea than the 4 man rotation the Rockies put together last year. Matt
  18. You know, its funny you mention that... that was part of the reason the Yankees had such a good record last year (I think better than the team they had). They set a record for come from behind wins. This year, they aren't coming from behind like they did last year - and I think that is a major reason they are in the doldrums right now. They are coming back in games on par with everyone else, where as last year they were coming back WAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more than any other team. Matt
  19. Hey, I'm not saying I don't like Renteria... but I think when Hanley is ready, I wouldn't particularly mind seeing Rent traded for some top notch relief/starters/whatever is needed. I mean, would you really be that broken up about it? If we could trade Rent and get some major bullpen help, and then put Ramirez in at Short (if he's truly ready)... I think that is a MAJOR upgrade for the team. Ramirez will (I believe at least) light Fenway on fire, more than Rent can (no knock on Rent), and if you add some bullpen help (or whatever else is needed)... where's the bad in this situation? Matt
  20. I have to admit I'm not quite sure... but I don't believe he's really that fast. Everything I've read on him is more along the lines of, scrappy hitter, great eye, hard worker, dirt dog mentality, etc. Never really heard, "flys on the bases" or "speed demon". Matt
  21. Well I'm not sayinig bring him up RIGHT now... but I certainly would like to see him at the start of next season. I wouldn't mind seeing him a little later in the year just to get him a taste of the bigs... You're right - no need to rush him, but I think its perfectly acceptable for him to take over for Bellhorn after this year is over. Matt
  22. Who are you talking about? The pitchers? Because most of those were emergency help kind of stuff. Shoppach? He didn't get regular time, and he's kind of streaky as it is anyway. Pedroia is a top prospect, and he's very good, and by the beginning of next year could certainly be ready to play in the bigs. I frankly don't see why he wouldn't be ready. College players generally progress through the farm systems much faster than high school players. I certainly hope you aren't implying that since some minor leaguers (in spot playing time) have struggled up in the majors, ALL minor leaguers in the sox system will never be ready. The sox system is adequate, and will soon be very good. Don't be afraid of calling up rookies, especially replacing the king of stikeouts. I'm willing to stick with Bellhorn this year, but there is ZERO reason Pedroia shouldn't play next year if he continues to progress well. Matt
  23. Once again - don't count them out. I don't think they'll make the playoffs as is right now, but I don't doubt for one minute that they'll make a couple moves here and there to potentially strengthen the team. I won't believe they are truly out of it until I see E on the standings. Don't forget, we were what 9 games back of the yankees quite late in the year and had a real shot at winning the division last year. Baseball is a crazy sport... don't count anyone out until they are eliminated. Matt
  24. And what the f*** is that supposed to mean? I don't know Ahhchon, but I assume from the structure of that particular sentence that is some kind of bad thing. I'd appreciate it if you weren't a cock to me based on a couple posts in one thread. As for Damon, he'll get paid just fine nomatter where he goes, and George won't be spending unlimited amounts like he has before. That's why he let Beltran go - he just didn't want to tie up that kind of money again. Matt
