  1. Alright, that's fair. I just thought it was reasonable to assume that his statement wasn't meant to be taken literally because he can't possibly know what he's claiming. But I see your point, and like you, I also avoid statements of certainty.
  2. And I can't say one is worse than the other, but I've heard some really really really bad stories about Yankee fans in Fenway. But I've only been there to see the Yankees once, and aside from a few people yelling at me which I don't mind and expect, it wasn't bad at all.
  3. Besides Robbie Alomar, who the hell spits on another human being...
  4. They would probably be desperate enough to, but I don't think it'll come to that. Anything is possible, but I expect we'll hear one way or another from Pettitte in the next two weeks, before pitchers and catchers report.
  5. No risk ... and almost certainly no reward. Even if he's going to give the Yankees only 120-140 innings, Pettitte remains the key to the offseason.
  6. Take a look at the first baseball redraft - it never finished.
  7. Hmm, that's reasonable. I guess it's less stressful for me, because I don't really do all the preparation. If we were to do another one, I guess all I would suggest is that we run it differently (e.g. so that everything doesn't have to be your responsibility).
  8. At the risk of bringing this thread back on topic, why do you not want to do these anymore, ital? I understand not wanting to be the person running it, but I find these to be very enjoyable.
  9. I'm not sure if I'd say his attitude sucks, I think it's more that he's so intense out there, that he lets his emotions get the best of him from time to time. Just speculating, of course.
  10. I don't know what the intent was, but just based on what he did, that was such a dirty play. He came underneath Frye with his foot, and he hit him in the groin.
  11. I think you're taking that too literally. He's just very confident that Burnett will bounce back, and despite the definitive language, I'm willing to bet that Jacko realizes there's no way he can be 100% sure (because, well, it's obvious). But I'm sure he can clarify this for us.
  12. You're taking what I said out of context. Palodios referred to Bard and Kalish as proven MLB commodities. That was the only point I'm refuting, and I'm definitely not talking out of both sides of my mouth, being hypocritical about two different prospects, or saying anything stupid. And Palodios now qualified his initial comment.
  13. The one thing to remember about Jeter is that, while he has no range (except for 2009), he is one of the best, if not the best, shortstops at making the routine play. It doesn't make up for his lack of range, but it just serves as a reminder that it could be much worse. EDIT: A little late joining in, but hadn't noticed the discussion about Jeter until this thread was bumped.
  14. I don't think anyone is calling it a sure thing - Jacko is merely predicting an improvement. He was slightly unlucky last year in some areas, mainly his BABIP and LOB%. But his problem in 2010 (and what was different in this year compared to other years) is his curveball. Here are his curveball run values, according to fangraphs... 2007: 13.9 2008: 13 2009: 16 2010: -3.9 Unfortunately fangraphs doesn't have the horizontal and vertical movement numbers for his curveball in 2010, but I'm willing to bet it's worse. This likely led to more contact on pitches outside the zone (63.7 in 2010 compared to 47.3 career average) which caused less swinging strikes (7.9 compared to 10.1 career average). With this we get less strikeouts (6.99 K/9 compared to 8.23 K/9 career average), and less overall effectiveness. In a new year, with a new pitching coach, it's possible that AJ can rediscover his curveball, which will likely lead to a significant improvement in 2011.
  15. All excuses aside, it isn't crazy to think that he just had a bad year in 2010, and that he might revert back to his 2007-2009 level of performance in 2011. It's far from a sure thing, and he could easily repeat his 2010 performance this year, but an improvement is a realistic possibility.
  16. Nice, that must have been a fun summer Ital. Do you do that every year?
  17. Agreed, he was too kind to Banuelos. As for Montero, Jonathan Mayo probably had him too low, but there has to be a deduction for no positional value. It's what separates him from Trout and Harper, and then after that is a matter of opinion.
  18. Based on how each team is constructed right now... AL East - BOS AL Central - MIN AL West - TEX AL WC - NYY NL East - PHI NL Central - STL NL West - COL NL WC - SF World Series - PHI over BOS
  19. Figured this would be a better place to talk about the prospect rankings that have been coming out recently. Obviously it's nice to see people think so highly of Montero's bat (to have him as the fourth best overall prospect with no positional value is something), but what was really interesting was Banuelos. Law had him as the fourth best best pitching prospect, ahead of Drabek and Hellickson.
