  1. It's incredible how idiotic this statement is. You seem to be implying that I came into the thread to gloat. I posted about Girardi's protest. As of a matter of fact, I didn't mention the fact that they were winning, or even anything positive about the Yankees for that matter. Enjoy the Red Sox's win, it was an excellent one. At the same time, there's no reason to go out of your way to be a jerk about it.
  2. 1. Today wasn't a save situation (not that it matters to your overall point). 2. It's not uncommon for him to go through periods where he struggles. It has happened multiple times every single season. 3. He really wasn't that bad tonight. Both runs were unearned because of a dropped popup. He easily could have struck out McDonald. Hermida hit a pretty good pitch, one where Rivera hit his spot. EDIT: Saying "something is clearly wrong with him", after subpar outings, just reeks of so much bias.
  3. Only two Yankees' fans posted in the thread.
  4. Well Marcus Thames was bound to drop a fly ball eventually. I'm surprised it took him that long. Funny thing is, people think of Swisher as a subpar outfielder, but you really miss him when someone like Thames is out there. Additionally, I'm slowly becoming a bit worried about a couple things here. I'm losing faith in the bullpen, as I'm not sure how they're going to bridge the gap to Mo. The bullpen has now blown leads in four of their last five games. I like having Joba in the bullpen, but this is why it was silly to say he's back to his 2007 form. We need to see much more consistency. Then there's Jeter. A 2008 repeat seems realistic.
  5. Allowing Joba to pitch to Ortiz (walk him or bring in Marte), and bunting with Cervelli, were two awful decisions. Always makes me laugh a little bit when I think about how they ran Torre out of town. Sure, he overused some bullpen arms, but Girardi is just an awful tactician.
  6. Wow this guy is horrible. He bunts, against a pitcher that doesn't have much, with Marcus Thames, Juan Miranda, and Randy Winn coming up. You can't make this stuff up.
  7. Strongly disagree with the bunt here.
  8. Can't believe he didn't get the 1-2.
  9. YES showed an angle that really made it look like Teixeira stayed on the bag, but it wasn't definitive.
  10. It is amazing how bad this guy is.
  11. Well, Joba has looked awful, but he was hurt by what appeared to be a bad call this inning.
  12. I don't think that's correct, because they confirmed on the YES broadcast that the Yankees protested the game. I think it's a rare situation where a protest is appropriate, because there is nothing to lose, and it comes down to the interpretation of the rules.
  13. I don't think there is any question that the Rays are for real, but they won't sustain a sub 3 ERA from their starting rotation for the rest of the season, especially playing in the AL East. With that being said, I like them to make the playoffs, either as the division winner or as the wild card.
  14. Fair enough. I just think, if you're talking about reasons why the Yankees have been able to overcome injuries and slow starts so far this year, these aren't just small reasons, they're microscopic.
  15. Marte's overall ERA in 2008 is not that much different than his 2010 ERA is. So, you're really only basing this decline on 13.1 inning in 2009, when he was apparently dealing with the shoulder injury that eventually forced him onto the DL. Logan getting through garbage innings hasn't really helped this team, as he's doing something that many different pitchers could do. With Joba, his early success doesn't surprise me, considering how quickly he seemed to readjust to his bullpen role in the postseason.
  16. Marte's career ERA is 3.47. That is more relevant than his ERA in a small sample size with the Yankees. As for Logan, almost all of his success has come in low leverage situations, and the few times he has entered in big spots, he has either given up runs, or had to be bailed out by other members of the bullpen after putting runners on base. With Joba, you already admitted that he probably maintains his current level of performance, and what he did during 2008 and 2009 is irrelevant because he was a starter for the majority of those two seasons. These are not reasons why the Yankees have been able to overcome injuries and slow starts.
  17. What out of character performances have they benefitted from out of the bullpen?
